Abstract: A sprayable cosmetic product is provided that includes a clear bottle capable of withstanding at least 10 psig fitted with a spray nozzle, and a clear, single-phase cosmetic composition. The cosmetic composition will contain a hydrocarbon propellant and a concentrate which may contain .alpha.-olefin sulphonate salts, alkyl polyglucosides and betaines as well as mixtures thereof. Upon activation of the spray nozzle, a thick, creamy mousse is expressed. The cosmetic compositions preferably will have a pH ranging from about 3.0 to 6.5. Best aesthetic appeal is achieved with a red dye which has been stabilized with a UV absorbing agent.

Abstract: The present invention relates to detergent bar compositions comprising a specific ternary system. Specifically the composition comprises (1) about 10% to 70% of a first synthetic anionic surfactant and (2) 1 to 20% of a mixture of surfactants comprising a second anionic different from the first and an amphoteric surfactant, wherein the composition comprises less than 5% soap. In such compositions, the throughput rate of a bar made from processing the compositions through a plodder is higher at a temperature below 100.degree. F. than it is above 100.degree. F., said temperature referring to the temperature reading at just after said bar is extruded through said plodder.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for synchronizing the line time and color channel exposure timing signals of a CCD line sensor with the polarization control signal of an AC-polarized arc-discharge lamp in a scanning system. The scanning system comprises a scanner illumination system, including an AC-polarized arc-discharge lamp, for illuminating a document to be scanned, and a scanner imaging system for scanning the illuminated document in a line-wise manner. The scanning system of the present invention is designed to minimize brightness fluctuations on the document being scanned, improving the quality of the scanned image.

Abstract: Polysaccharides (e.g., dextran) of different molecular weights were substituted at the anomeric carbon with polyalkylene oxides of different molecular weights to give novel diblock copolymers. The copolymers inhibit bacterial aggregation. The copolymers are useful as antiplaque agents, as agents to prevent bacterial aggregation in an aqueous system or in a fermentation system.

Abstract: An antibody fragment able to bind to a target site is prolonged by an additional peptide. The Therapeutic agent is bound to this peptide or means are provided to bring about such binding. The antibody fragment and possibly also the therapeutic agent are included in a product so that binding to the target site delivers the therapeutic agent to the vicinity. The product may for example be for dental care, such as a toothpaste or mouthwash and the antibody fragment may then bind to a component of dental plaque.

Abstract: Transglutaminase crosslinks proteins by catalyzing the formation of isopeptide bonds between lysine and glutamine residues. Transglutaminase may be used to crosslink beneficial actives containing an amine moiety to glutamine residues in skin, hair or nails. A variety of beneficial actives, e.g., sunscreens, antimicrobial compounds, skin conditioning agents, hair conditioning agents, anti-inflammatory compounds, antioxidants, coloring agents, perfumes, insect repellants, can thus be delivered to human skin, hair, or nails.

Abstract: A free-flowing granular detergent composition or component having a bulk density of at least 550 g/liter comprises an anionic surfactant of which the acid form is a liquid at ambient temperature, preferably primary alcohol sulphate and/or alkylbenzene sulphonate; zeolite; and alkali metal, preferably sodium, carbonate. The level of sodium carbonate is 2-12 wt % when the anionic surfactant is wholly primary alcohol sulphate, otherwise 2-25 wt %. The compositions have lower levels of carbonate and higher surfactant loadings than previously disclosed materials, without loss of powder properties. The materials are preferably prepared by a granulation process involving in-situ neutralisation of anionic surfactant acid by carbonate in a high-speed mixer/granulator.

Abstract: A deflecting tool or whipstock is oriented and anchored in a well casing during a single trip of a running string so that a window can be formed in the wall of the casing at a selected azimuth. The angular orientation of the deflecting tool is measured, and signals representative thereof are transmitted to the surface. When the desired orientation is obtained, the anchor is actuated to prevent movement of the deflecting tool, and the orientation adjusting and measurement and transmission tools are released from the whipstock and removed from the casing by withdrawing the running string which preferably is coiled tubing. Then a downhole motor and milling bit are run into the casing on coiled tubing and operated to form a window through the wall thereof opposite the deflection surface of the whipstock so that a new borehole can be drilled outside the casing.
