  • Patent number: 5332589
Abstract: A process for preparing fruits or vegetables and the fruits or vegetables prepared by the process. In particular, the vegetables may be diced tomatoes. The process comprises continuously exposing the diced fruits or vegetables to a calcium chloride solution comprising fruit or vegetable juice. The fruits or vegetables are exposed to the solution for a predetermined period of time. Calcium chloride solution is continuously recovered, measured and compared to a predetermined value or programmable controller microprocessor set-point. Any necessary adjustments are made to maintain the concentration within the accepted range of a predetermined value. • Patent number: 5333095
Abstract: A feedthrough filter capacitor assembly and related installation method are provided for shielding a conductive terminal pin or lead of the type used, for example, in an implantable medical device such as a heart pacemaker or defibrillator, against passage of external interference signals. The feedthrough assembly includes a terminal pin subassembly having at least one terminal pin supported within a cylindrical conductive ferrule by a hermetically sealed insulator ring. The ferrule is adapted for mounting onto a conductive pacemaker housing, as by welding or brazing, to support the terminal pin for feedthrough passage to the housing interior. A co-axial filter capacitor is mounted at an inboard side of the pacemaker housing, with capacitor electrode plate sets coupled respectively to the pacemaker housing and to the terminal pin by a conductive adhesive or the like.

  • Patent number: 5332014
Abstract: A device and method for the controlled release of a soapy water concentrate into a sink or basin for providing a sink full of soapy water for institutional pot, pan and dishwashing applications. The device is implemented as a container filled with semi-solid, water-soluble soap concentrate. The container has a base which allows it to freely stand at the bottom of the sink being filled with water. A stream of water from a sink faucet is directed into an inlet aperture on an upper surface of the container. The water enters the inlet aperture, commingling and interacting with the semi-solid soap to dissolve a fractional portion thereof and form a soapy water concentrate solution. The solution is ejected under pressure by the entering water out through a plurality of outlet apertures defined in the container, thereby filling the sink with soapy water concentrate.

  • Patent number: 5332124
Abstract: A disposable refill cartridge, for use with a reusable base and a reusable dispensing head for the simultaneous coextension of at least two flowable materials. The disposable refill cartridge has a hollow inner cylinder for containing a flowable material. The inner cylinder has a first generally open top end which can be temporarily sealed until the refill cartridge is combined with a reusable dispensing head. The second or bottom end of the refill cylinder telescopically and slidingly accommodates a piston head which is compressibly engagable with a piston rod of the reusable base. The piston head rides sealingly along the interior walls of the inner refill cylinder when compressed by the piston rod forces the flowable material to flow out of the refill cylinder and through outlet means of the dispensing head. Once the flowable material has been expended, the refill cartridge can be discarded and a new one can be used in conjunction with the reusable base and dispensing head.

  • Patent number: 5328132
Abstract: A rocket engine protection system for a recoverable rocket booster which is arranged to land in a salt water body in substantially a nose down attitude. The system includes an inflatable bag which is stowed on a portion of a flat annular rim of the aft skirt of the booster. The bag is hinged at opposing sides and is provided with springs that urge the bag open. The bag is latched in a stowed position during launch and prior to landing for recovery is unlatched to permit the bag to be urged open and into sealing engagement with the rim. A source of pressurized gas further inflates the bag and urges it into sealing engagement with the rim of the skirt where it is locked into position. The gas provides a positive pressure upon the interior of the bag to preclude entry of salt water into the skirt and into contact with the engine. A flotation arrangement may assist in precluding the skirt of the booster from becoming submerged.
