Abstract: A braided insitu consolidated structure of fiber reinforced thermoplastic resin strands is formed by braiding the strands on a mandrel and then advancing the mandrel and the braided structure as it is formed continuously through a heating zone to heat the resin to a flowable condition then cooling the structure as it leaves the zone. Pressure may be applied or developed against the braided structure during its formation.
Abstract: A ski holder for the temporary, theft-proof storage of skis comprises a vertical guide post (1) erected in a suitable manner, to which a ski-holding device (10) is attached so that it is infinitely adjustable. The ski-holding device (10) comprises a coin-operated locking device (4), whereof the bolt secures the skis (12) stored.
Abstract: A process for stabilizing aqueous solution of aryl hydrazides is described. These solutions may be made by the addition of a stabilizing amount of ascorbic acid, isoascorbic acid, erythorbic acid, tartaric acid, citric acid. glucose and a cyclodextrin, etc., or mixtures, for example. When aqueous solutions of aryl hydrazides containing these stabilizers/antioxidants are prepared, the solution will have a shelf life of up to 30 days compared to 1-3 hours of solutions without the stabilizer/antioxidant. The stabilized aryl hydrazide is useful in photographic silver halide emulsions, etc.
Abstract: An improved X-ray intensifying screen comprising phosphor crystals having an effective amount of a light scattering particulate material, e.g., barium sulfate, strontium sulfate, calcium sulfate, titanium dioxide or magnesium oxide, adhered thereto is described. This screen will give high speed and yield an image with increased sharpness when exposed with a single-side coated medical X-ray film element, compared to one made without the particulate material.
Abstract: An analogue amplifier circuit has a gain stage comprising two differential operational amplifers (17, 18) and an error correction stage comprising two differential operational amplifiers (20, 21) each connected with its inputs across the inputs of a respective gain stage amplifier and its output connected to the non-inverting input of the other gain stage amplifier. A balanced output from the outputs of the two gain stage amplifiers (17, 18) may be provided or these two outputs may be fed to a final stage amplifier (22) to provide a single output.

Abstract: High resolution, photosensitive electrostatic master which is positive-working with a single imagewise exposure comprising a conductive support bearing a layer of a photosensitive composition consisting essentially of (a) at least two polymeric binders, at least one binder having a Tg greater than 80.degree. C. and at least one binder having a Tg of 70.degree. C. or less such that the shift in transit time (a.sub.T) of the photosensitive layer in the range of 30%.ltoreq.relative humidity.ltoreq.60% and 65.degree. F. (18.3.degree. C.).ltoreq.temperature .ltoreq.80.degree. F. (26.7.degree. C.) is 10 or less, (b) a hexaarylbiimidazole photooxidant, (c) leuco dye, preferably stabilized, oxidized by (b), (d) a nonionic halogenated compound, preferably a hydrocarbon, and (e) at least one compatible plasticizer. A process of making positive images by a single imagewise exposure is described.

Abstract: A process for the production of N-acylimidazoles by the reaction of a carboxylic anhydride with carbonyl-diimidazole is disclosed. The products are useful as chemical intermediates.
Abstract: Drawing, especially cold-drawing, or hot-drawing or other heat-treatments of spin-oriented crystalline polyester filaments, and particularly polyester feed yarns, that have been prepared by spinning at speeds of, e.g., 4 km/min, and have low shrinkage and no natural draw ratio in the conventional sense, provides useful technique for obtaining uniform drawn filaments of desired denier and thereby provides improved flexibility to obtain filaments and yarns of various sub-deniers.

Abstract: Piston tops (1, 70), specially those provided with combustion chamber (2, 20) and ring zone (3, 30) have their cooling condition sensibly improved in such regions due to a better use of the cooling oil capacity by closing the cooling chamber (5, 50) and the region 2I under the combustion chamber by annular ring members (96, 13) in a resilient material, e.g., a polymeric material or, preferably a spring steel, which clamp under the cooling chamber (5, 50) and the region 2I with dimensional interference respectively with grooves (10, 100), notches (11, 110) and groove 15. Methods for the manufacture of such top portion having a reduced compression height are also described.

Abstract: There is disclosed an optical waveguide comprising a K.sub.1-x Rb.sub.x TiOMO.sub.4 single crystal substrate, wherein x is from 0 to 1 and M is P or As, having at least one optically smooth surface wherein sufficient K.sup.+ and/or Rb.sup.+ have been replaced by ions selected from at least one of H.sup.+ and NH.sub.4.sup.+ and, optionally, at least one monovalent ion selected from Rb.sup.+, Cs.sup.+, Tl.sup.+, and/or at least one divalent ion selected from Ba.sup.+2, Sr.sup.+2, Ca.sup.+2 and Pb.sup.+2 change the surface index of refraction at least about 0.00025 with respect to the index of refraction of the single crystal substrate. One process disclosed for producing an optical waveguide comprises the steps of contacting at least one optically smooth surface of a single crystal of K.sub.1-x Rb.sub.x TiOMO.sub.4 with an ion exchange medium capable of supplying said replacement ions for sufficient time at a temperature of from about 100.degree. C. to about 600.degree. C., and cooling the resulting crystal.

Abstract: 1-[2,2-bis(trifluoromethyl)-3,3,4,4,5,5,5-heptafluoropentyl]-3,5-diaminoben zene and 1-[2,2-bis(trifluoromethyl)-3,3,4,4,5,5,5-heptafluoropentyl]-4-aminobenzen e, as well as fluorinated polymers, preferably polyimides. The perfluoroalkyl group of these amines is connected to the benzene ring through a tertiary carbon atom followed by a methylene group. This renders the amines more reactive than other amines, where the perfluoroalkyl group is connected directly to the benzene ring. The absence of hydrogen from the group containing the tertiary carbon atom which is adjacent to the perfluorinated groups, prohibits dehydrofluorination.

Abstract: A process and an apparatus determines the position of an object by triangtion. In order to determine the location of an object, two illumination light beams coming from different directions are aimed at a reflector attached to the object and the reflected beams are detected by a location-sensitive sensor. In order also to detect the rotation position of the object, the reflector is partially mirrored so that a part of the illumination light beams striking thereon pass through it. The laser beams passing through the retro-reflector are detected in a sensor plane, which is spaced at a distance from the center of the reflector.
