  • Patent number: 5158479
Abstract: A connector having a male part and a matching female part, both parts are provided with mating faces extending essentially parallel to the plug-in direction and moving along each other when these parts mate with each other. One connector part is provided with one or more radially projecting collars which are sawtooth-shaped in cross-section and extend over the entire periphery of the mating face. The other connector part has a smooth surface extending over the entire periphery of the fitting face so that after the parts are plugged in, the outside edge of each collar rests in sealing fashion on the opposite smooth fitting face. The male part can be a supporting body for the contact elements of the connector and/or a contact element itself. The female part can be the housing of the connector and/or an aperture in the supporting body for receiving a contact element.

  • Patent number: 5156779
Abstract: A method and an improved eductor apparatus for producing ultrafine explosive particles is disclosed. The explosive particles, which when incorporated into a binder system, have the ability to propagate in thin sheets, and have very low impact sensitivity and very high propagation sensitivity. A stream of a solution of the explosive dissolved in a solvent is thoroughly mixed with a stream of an inert nonsolvent by obtaining nonlaminar flow of the streams by applying pressure against the flow of the nonsolvent stream, to thereby diverge the stream as it contacts the explosive solution, and violently agitating the combined stream to rapidly precipitate the explosive particles from the solution in the form of generally spheroidal, ultrafine particles. The two streams are injected coaxially through continuous, concentric orifices of a nozzle into a mixing chamber. Preferably, the nonsolvent stream is injected centrally of the explosive solution stream.

A bed of granulated activated carbon with a grind size of 1230 is disposed inside the tube between the inlet end and the porous polypropylene membrane in a 7:1 ratio (bed height:bed diameter). A mouthpiece, which has an inlet and an outlet, is mounted over the outlet end of the elongated tube so that the mouthpiece and the elongated tube are in fluid communication. To use the device, the inlet end of the tube is inserted into water and suction is applied to the outlet of the mouthpiece.

  • Patent number: 5156518
Abstract: An unloading device having a frame transversely supportable on a pair of spaced side walls of a truck bed is longitudinally movable from the front to the rear of the truck bed. A plurality of wheels secured to the frame and engagable with the side walls facilitate movement of the device. An electric motor or hand crank is drivingly connected to a main shaft mounted on the frame for rotating the shaft in opposite directions, and an elongated sheet of material, such as reinforced nylon, having one end thereof secured to the shaft and the other end thereof secured to the rear of the truck bed is used for receiving an article for transportation. Rotation of the shaft in one direction winds the sheet of material on the shaft, moves the frame toward the rear of the truck bed and shifts the article on the sheet from the front of the truck bed to the rear and off of the truck bed. A rail is mounted on each of the side walls of the truck bed for guiding the wheels.

  • Patent number: 5155558
Abstract: A method and apparatus for analyzing the appearance features of a surface with a spatially coherent beam of uniformly distributed collimated polychromatic light that is directed through a beam limiting means (or mask) and onto the surface at an acute angle of incidence. A scanned imaging detector, translatable through a sequence of focal plane positions along the optic axis between the mask and surface, measures the reflectance values associated with the scanned pixel intensities. After standardization, the scan intensity values are Fourier transformed into the spatial frequency domain to obtain an optical transfer function (OTF) and power and amplitude spectra. The visual spatial frequency response characteristic V(f) and standard psychophysical methodology is applied to mathematically determine surface appearance attributes such as orange peel, microwrinkle, cracks and crazes, distinctness of image (DOI), gloss, haze, contrast, luster, fog and texture.
