Abstract: A capacitive sensor is described having an element which traverses the outside of a container of liquid to ascertain the vertical locations of liquid interfaces in the container. The sensor uses an oscillator whose amplitude or phase is a function of the capacitance of the element.
Abstract: Film speed of holographic photopolymer film containing polyvinyl acetate binder and an ethylenically unsaturated monomer is improved by including acrylic anhydride in the film.
Abstract: A nucleic acid fragment encoding a herbicide-resistant plant acetolactate synthase protein is disclosed. This nucleic acid fragment contains at least one nucleotide mutation resulting in one amino acid change in one of seven substantially conserved regions of acetolactate synthase amino acid homology. This mutation results in the production of an acetolactate synthase protein which is resistant to sulfonylurea herbicide compounds compared to the wild-type protein. Transformation of herbicide sensitive plants or plant cells with the fragment results in resistance to the herbicide.

Abstract: A battery charger 10 includes a microprocessor device 12 coupled to a voltage to frequency converter 18 for determining a magnitude of a voltage potential appearing across a battery under charge. The microprocessor has an output for activating a source of battery charging power when the determined magnitude of the voltage is within a predetermined range of voltages. During a charge cycle the microprocessor maintains an elapsed time counter and determines if a battery reaches full charge within 30 minutes or does not reach a full charge after 16 hours. In either case the source is deactivated. The microprocessor also determines when a battery reaches a threshold voltage after which the rate of rise of the battery voltage is compared to a predetermined rate of rise. When the measured rate of rise is less than the predetermined rate of rise the microprocessor initiates a final charge cycle wherein the battery is charged for one additional hour.
Abstract: A process for making alternate S and Z twist plied yarn from individual singles yarns includes the steps of tensioning the singles yarns as they move in a path through the process, twisting the individual yarns in either an S or Z direction, stopping the forward movement of the yarn, then bonding the ply-twisted yarns at a node while applying twist, stopping the twisting operation, then repeating the procedure while twisting in the opposite direction.

Abstract: The enclosure is intended, among other uses, for a rack-mounted electronic musical instrument characterized in that screws are not required to secure the assembled parts of the enclosure. Top and bottom molded plastic halves (preferably identical) have integral flexible hooks and also projections. The halves have inward turned edges which fit together and mate at the horizontal mid-plane of the enclosure. A generally U-shaped thin, narrow sheet metal core engages the back and both sides of both halves inside the edges of the halves and is formed with holes into which the distal ends of the hooks snap and thus lock the halves and core together. A plastic front panel also has horizontal flexible hooks which snap into holes in the core to close off the front of the enclosure. Outward extending ears on the core may be used to attach the enclosure to a rack.
Abstract: A permeable membrane apparatus having one or more hollow-fiber bundles enclosed in a single housing with end caps adapted so as to segment the bundles into a plurality of portions that can be separately used for fluid separation and its use.
Abstract: Trash bags and other products from LLDPE are made animal repellent by incorporation of terpene in the LLDPE in the melt process for fabricating such products from the polymer.
Abstract: Compounds of the formula ##STR1## are disclosed. These compounds are useful as intermediates in the preparation of pharmaceutically active products.
Abstract: The invention provides for deciding whether a recording dot is to be printed for the reproduction of scan dots. The scan dots being considered are complied in an input switching network into groups, for which an arithmetic processor determines the tonal value sum. The arithmetic processor emits a signal, if the tonal value sum exceeds a certain figure. The recording dot to be printed is determined by the presence of the signal in an output switching network. This process is performed successively for increasingly larger areas of the original, that is, for increasingly larger quantities of scan dots.
Abstract: A stator assembly for a non-static cogging brushless DC motor includes a hollow coil forming member fabricated of a nonconductive and nonmagnetic material having an array of generally radially extending teeth. Each tooth has a pair of generally radially extending sidewalls that extend substantially the entire axial length of the coil forming member. A plurality of coils is wound on the teeth of the coil forming member so that the coils are disposed in surrounding relationship with respect to the radially extending sidewalls of the teeth. The teeth on the coil forming member may extend either radially inwardly or radially outwardly thereof.
Abstract: Disclosed is an apparatus for checking audio signal processing systems. The apparatus has the following features:the apparatus is provided with a first input connection, to which the input signal of the audio processing system to be checked is transmitted, a second input connection, to which the output signal of said system is transmitted, and a signal processor.

Abstract: In a solid imaging system, the beam of a relatively high-powered beam radiation source, and more particularly a laser, is modulated in accordance with its varying vector sweep speed so that substantially constant layer depth is maintained at all scanner speeds in a strip of photohardenable composition as it hardens and solidifies in response to the source's irradiation.
Abstract: Wellhead production apparatus is set forth. It is adapted to be connected to a cased well having a production tubing string therein. It cooperates with a plunger traveling freely in the production tubing string. The wellhead apparatus connects typically through a flange at the wellhead, a master valve, a vertically extending tube which connects into and comprises a tee. The equipment extends thereabove so that the plunger can travel above the tee and is rebounded for reciprocation. The tee is formed of two cylindrical members which are arranged concentric of one another to define an annular flow space therebetween. The annular flow space being connected through an opening into a lateral production flow line. The tee thus cannot be blinded by stalling the plunger even with the lateral flow line.
Abstract: AB and ABA block copolymers of acrylics and acrylic amines are useful as oil additives to diminish sediment and color formation. The copolymers are preferably formed by group transfer polymerization.

Abstract: A tubular adapter fitting for attachment to the service connector of a refrigeration unit enabling receipt of a quick disconnect coupler to attach the coupler end of refrigeration tubing in flow communication therewith. The fitting in comprised of a tubular body adapted at one end for mounting onto a service connector. A contoured periphery serves to receive a quick connect coupler almost instantaneously in a pressure tight interlock relation thereon. Two adapter fitting embodiments are disclosed, one of which is particularly suited to a threaded service connector of a type normally provided with the refrigerant unit of a vehicular air conditioning system. The second embodiment of the adapter fitting is more suited to servicing non-vehicular refrigerant systems in which a service connector is not normally provided in advance by the manufacturer of the equipment but must be provided by the serviceman on site.
