  • Patent number: 5008579
Abstract: An electrical energy source is created by the combination of a light emitting polymer material having at least one light emitting surface emitting light energy of a specified frequency bandwidth and a photovoltaic cell having a light collecting surface and a pair of electrical contacts. The light collecting surface of the photovoltaic cell is optically coupled with the light emitting surface of the light emitting polymer material. An open-circuit voltage is generated between the pair of electrical contacts as a result of the absorption of emitted light energy from the light emitting polymer material by the photovoltaic cell. In the preferred embodiment, the light emitting polymer is a tritiated organic polymer to which at least one organic phosphor or scintillant is bonded.

Abstract: A fowl feeder has a plurality of sleeve members mounted on a central tubular body member hanging vertically from a feed conveyor tube. An upper sleeve member supports a spider ring member which supports a suspended plate member. The plate member is capable, upon rotation about the central tubular body member, of exposing a plurality of lateral apertures in the central tubular body member to dispense feed therethrough. A lower sleeve member is vertically movable on the centrals tubular body member relative to the suspended plate member to regulate dispensing of feed through the bottom of the central tubular body member. A pivotal pawl is attached to the lower sleeve member to control positioning of the plate member relative to the lower end of the central tubular body member.

  • Patent number: 5007735
Abstract: The characteristic parameters of a semiconductor laser (1) acting as an amplifier and brought to bistable operating conditions are determined. The output power (I2) of laser (1) is measured as a function of the power (I1) of an amplitude-modulated optical input signal to determine the laser hysteresis loop; the switching points (P1, P2) between the two stable states of the laser (1) are identified, the input and output power values relevant to such points are memorized, and at least the value of the non-linear refractive index coefficient (n.sub.2) of the material used to fabricate the laser (1) as determined starting from the power values relevant to at least one of said points (P1, P2). By exploiting the power values relevant to both switching points (P1, P2) also the amplification factor (A), the finesse parameter (F) of the passive cavity of the laser (1) and the wavelength difference (.lambda.1-.lambda.

  • Patent number: 5005778
Abstract: Apparatus for wrapping web material about an elongated object, particularly one which is asymmetrical to a rotational axis thereof, includes a frame, a cylindrical support member mounted in the frame and an annular resilient sleeve loosely surrounding the support member longitudinally thereof. The object is mounted so that it creates a nip with the sleeve and the web material is fed into the nip. The object is rotated on its rotation axis to draw the web material through the nip and to wrap the material on the object. As the object rotates the sleeve will also rotate on the support member and it will deform radially to conform to the object as material is wrapped thereon. The deformation and almost instant changes in angular velocity of the sleeve reduces tension variations in the web material and result in a uniform covering of the object as it is wrapped.
