Abstract: An infusion pump for delivery of drugs to a patient includes a unit in which the pump mechanism is situated and a cassette through which the drugs to be delivered to the patient are pumped. The cassette includes a path for the fluid to flow from a drug vial to an outlet port. Disposed along the path are recesses for an inlet valve, a pressurization region, and an outlet valve. The cassette is sealed by an elastomeric layer to maintain the drugs to be delivered in a contaminant-free condition. The pump includes an inlet valve which has a contour matching the recess of the inlet port, and an outlet valve matching the recess of the outlet port. By biasing the inlet and outlet valves against the recesses, a pumping chamber is created. A piston in the unit pressurizes the pumping chamber to open the outlet valve and permit fluid to escape. By appropriate timing of the operation of the inlet valve and the piston, a continuous stream of fluid is delivered by the pump to the patient.

Abstract: New blends of fluorinated thermoplastic elastomers are disclosed that contain a two-phase composition including a continuous phase of a melt processible crystalline thermoplastic fluorocarbon resin and a dispersed phase of an amorphous crosslinked fluoroelastomer, and a dispersion-process-produced, non-fibrillating, non-melt-processible polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) powder. The PTFE copolymer is made up of recurring units of hexafluoropropylene, perfluoro(alkyl vinyl ether) wherein the alkyl group has 1-4 carbon atoms, and mixtures thereof. The PTFE compounds uniformly with the two-phase composition without forming visible agglomerates. Poly(phenylene sulfide) powder can be added to the blend to increase melt flow characteristics. Additionally, an uncured fluoroelastomer can be incorporated into the blend to enhance its mechanical properties.
Abstract: A waterbased coating composition containing about 10-30% by weight of film forming binder dispersed in an aqueous carrier; wherein the binder contains abouta. 60-90% by weight, based on the weight of the binder, of a methylol (meth)acrylamide acrylic polymer of polymerized monomers of alkyl methacrylate, alkyl acrylate or mixtures thereof, 1-10% by weight, based on the weight of the acrylic polymer, of methylol methacrylamide, methylol acrylamide or mixtures thereof, 0.5-10% by weight, based on the weight of the acrylic polymer, of an ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid, 0.5-10% by weight, based on the weight of the acrylic polymer, of an ethylenically unsaturated hydroxyl containing monomer and the acrylic polymer has a glass transition temperature of -40 to +40C and a weight average molecular weight of 500,000 to 3,000,000; and the carboxyl groups of the carboxylic acid are reacted with ammonia to provide a pH to the composition of about 7.0-10.0;b.

Abstract: A tamper-indicating seal of the type having a bolt retained in a lock body, wherein the lock body is surrounded by a shroud of frangible, brittle material and provided with a grooved outer surface and flanged entrance way for receiving and surrounding the bolt end, whereby the shroud is easily fractured, thus providing visual indication of tampering. Visual detection of tampering may be enhanced by a coating applied to the outer surface of the shroud.
Abstract: There are provided novel esters of 2-arylmethyl-1-naphthol derivatives useful as anti-inflammatory agents. Also provided are pharmaceutical compositions containing these compounds and methods of using the compounds to treat inflammatory diseases in man.
Abstract: Acrylic hot melt pressure sensitive adhesive compositions having a good balance of tack, peel and creep resistance at ambient temperature combined with optical clarity and desirable melt viscosity at elevated temperatures are prepared by copolymerizing acrylic and methacrylic alkyl esters of a non-tertiary alcohol or optionally acids with polymerizable poly methacrylate based macromonomers. The resulting acrylic copolymer has a graft or comb structure in which the acrylic backbone has a low Tg and the pendant macromonomer side chains have a Tg above room temperature.Compounding these acrylic copolymers with tackifiers and plasticizers dramatically improves the balance of pressure sensitive adhesive properties while lowering melt viscosity into a desirable range. The invention provides significant property enhancements even for acrylic copolymers having poor initial peel and shear adhesive properties.
Abstract: A process for making alternate S and Z twist plied yarn from individual singles yarns includes the steps of tensioning the singles yarns as they move in a path through the process, twisting the individual yarns in either an S or Z direction, stopping the forward movement of the yarn, then bonding the ply-twisted yarns at a node while applying twist, stopping the twisting operation, then repeating the procedure while twisting in the opposite direction.

Abstract: A dry disconnect coupling and a safety cap for portable tanks are disclosed. The disconnect coupling includes a fitting flange to be mounted to the drain of the tank, a plug movably secured in the flange and having flow and non-flow positions, and a coupling which lockingly engages with the flange and cooperates with the plug. The coupling includes a plug drive pin and a valve disposed coaxially therein. Individual drive knobs are provided for the plug drive pin and valve to cause axial translation thereof relative to the coupling and to each other. The safety cap includes a fitting flange to be mounted to the drain of the tank, a plug movably secured in the flange, and a coupling which lockingly engages with the flange and cooperates with the plug. The safety cap insures the proper, secure, and tight positioning of the plug in the fitting flange and maintains it in the non-flow position.
Abstract: Compounds as defined having a 1-phenylindole nucleus substituted in the 2-position with a 3-pyridyl group. Such compounds are useful in the preparation of cyanine dyes which can be used to sensitize silver halide emulsions for fogged direct-positive films.
Abstract: Expired paper rolls are removed from one unwinding station in a paper processing plant by engaging them with a gripper and transferring them onto a conveyor which can be operated to move expired rolls axially. Each expired roll is rotated about its own axis before the conveyor is set in motion so that the projecting remnant of web is convoluted around the expired roll before the latter begins to move axially. The one unwinding station is adjacent a second unwinding station which receives a fresh roll from a conveyance while the preceding roll is caused to pay out its web at the one station. The supporting arms for the roll at the one station are pivotable between the two stations so that a partly expired fresh roll can be shifted from the second station to the one station prior to conversion of such roll into an expired roll.
