Abstract: A coated cation exchanged fabric having as its base a fluorinated cation exchange resin, oriented at least 1x, in alkali metal salt form and as its coating an unoriented or oriented melt-fabricable precursor of the same salt-form fluorinated cation exchange resin. The invention also includes various processes for making the coated fabric.
Abstract: A label-switching and control interface for asynchronous fast-packet switching consisting of a set of label-switching and cell-processing units controlled by a suitable control unit. The units operate at each multiplex level in real time thanks to a microprogrammed logic requiring the control processor intervention only at the connection set-up/release. The units implement the low levels of the flow control algorithms necessary to conveniently exploit the advantages of the techniques. The label becomes indicative of a virtual circuit which is allotted only locally to the call, annulling thus the necessity of very extensive labels, while the parameters which characterize the connection which uses a particular label are stored in the unit itself.

Abstract: In a sensitivity time control device for an imaging radar system with an automatic gain control attenuator, a sensitivity time control attenuator and an analog-digital converter, output signals of the analog-digital converter are applied, via a device (20) generating an average value and a comparator device, to a control device, which has a ideal on-off relay connected with a device for determining its control parameter, an integrating member, switched downstream, and a device for calculating the operating point of the automatic gain control attenuator device. Furthermore, an n-bit digital analog converter is switched downstream of the control device, by means of the analog output voltage of which the sensitivity time control attenuator is controlled. It is possible, with the aid of the sensitivity time control device, to evaluate continuously the backscatter signal of an imaging radar system in real time, so that it is continuously possible in this way to determine an optimal sensitivity time control curve.

Abstract: A guitar pick having a serrated or jagged edge for picking a guitar string and capable of producing in a rapid succession a repetitive tone to give a percussive effect and to alternatively pick normally by using the unserrated top portion of the pick. The serrations may be on a beveled surface, may extend along about a 1/2 inch of the length of the guitar pick and be on both sides of the pick.
Abstract: Polymeric compounds comprise groups of the formula ##STR1## attached to carbon atoms of a polymer containing hydroxyl and optionally epoxide groups wherein X is ##STR2## The compounds are produced by reacting a starting polymer, which contains hydroxy groups and optionally epoxide groups with a reagent containing a cyclic anhydride group and a further functional group capable of reacting with the hydroxyl (and/or epoxide) groups preferentially to the anhydride group. The compounds are useful as bakeable support resins for radiation sensitive compounds in the production of printing plates.

Abstract: A mounting system for a connector or header mounted on a circuit board which accommodates misalignment caused by accumulated manufacturing tolerances or dimensional changes caused by temperature changes includes a support member having a continuous base portion that is at least longitudinally coextensive with the connectors or headers to be mounted on the printed circuit board. The base includes an array of through openings that are in general registration with the tail portions of the various pins or receptacles of the connectors. Lug structures extend upwardly from the base to retain the header or connector in place on the base. The through bores in the base are preferably tapered and have sufficient clearance to allow the tail portions to flex laterally in response to lateral insertion forces caused by misalignment between the mating headers and connectors.
Abstract: Colored, high strength, high modulus p-aramid fibers are prepared by including an organic pigment which is soluble in but not degraded by concentrated sulfuric acid in a p-aramid spinning dope wherein the solvent is concentrated sulfuric acid and spinning the pigment containing dope through an air gap into a coagulation bath and washing and drying the resulting fibers. The dissolved pigment is precipitated by the coagulation bath as particles with a diameter of less than 0.50 microns.
Abstract: A bidirectional travelling device for side sorting of articles in a flexible path transporting system made of at least one support fastened to a guide tow element of the system. Each support is made of a channel iron which is positioned to transversely with respect to the flexible path. The travelling device also includes a swiveling member positioned on each support for loading the article to be sorted. The swiveling member is made of two complementary, fork-shaped elements facing and interpenetrating one another. The fork-shaped elements pivot on sideboards of the channel iron. Due to gravity, the elements are in a horizontal, stable equilibrium position to define a plane for supporting the article. The travelling device further includes a scheme for actuating and resetting the swiveling member for rotating and raising the respective fork-shaped elements causing the downward discharge of the article transverse to the flexible path transporting system.

Abstract: Disclosed herein are cathodic electrodepositable coating baths containing lead cyanamide as a supplementary catalyst. It has been found that using lead cyanamide in conjunction with a primary metal catalyst (e.g. dibutyltin oxide) results in an electrocoat system with superior underbake cure without sacrificing chipping characteristics during overbake cure.

Abstract: Solid storage stable photopolymerizable compositions are provided that are useful in preparing optical elements, and especially holograms. The composition contains a polymeric binder, N-vinyl carbazole and a photoinitiator system that has a hydrogen donor component.
Abstract: A modular connector system wherein modules with high contact element density may be surface mounted to a printed circuit board. The connector modules achieve high contact element density by mutually displacing or offsetting the ends of adjacent contact elements in the same column in the direction of the row which extends in the longitudinal direction of the connector housing. The displaced ends are connected by surface mounting means to contact surfaces on the printed circuit board. A unique contact design is disclosed which can be used also in cable and other types of connectors. The modules construction permits many and different types of connectors to be mounted readily to a printed circuit board.
Abstract: Fiber optic switches using layers of cholesteric or chiral nematic liquid crystals (CLCs) are disclosed. The CLC layer acts both as a polarization beamsplitter and as a reflector by decomposing incoming unpolarized light into two orthogonal circularly polarized components. In a number of embodiments, switchable waveplates are employed to controllably switch the polarization direction of each of the polarization components. The components are then reflected back toward the CLC layer where they are recombined into a transmitted unpolarized beam. The direction of transmission depends on the circular sense of the polarized components, and therefore on the state of the switchable waveplates. In other embodiments, the CLCs are used actively by selectively exposing them to electric or magnetic fields or to heat which cause a phase change that temporarily neutralizes the circular polarization effect. In this manner, the CLCs can be used as switch elements themselves.

Abstract: A mirror assembly which may be mounted on a wall or beam is provided. The assembly includes a base which is mounted to a wall or beam, a pedestal connected to the base and a mirror or mirror connected to the pedestal. The mirror may rotate with respect to the pedestal about a first axis defined by the longitudinal axis of the pedestal and about a second axis perpendicular to the first axis. This enables the position of the mirror to be easily adjusted when the assembly is mounted on a wall or beam, in order to enable the assembly to be used at various locations where expanded viewing of an area is desirable.
Abstract: A layered yarn package is formed of continuous filament yarn wads wherein the yarn alternates between compacted and extended lengths by axially compacting the yarn into a length, segmenting the length into alternating extended and compacted lengths, then arranging the compacted lengths in a common axial direction one next to the other to form a layer. The segmenting is accomplished by jetting pressurized fluid onto the continuous filament yarn wads in a programmed manner.
