Abstract: Azeotropic mixtures of 2-chloro-1,1,2-triflurorethyl-2-difluoromethyl ether and trans-1,2-dichloroethylene with methanol, the azeotropic mixtures being useful in solvent cleaning applications.
Abstract: A metallized high specular gloss polyethylene plexifilamentary film-fibril sheet with very low emissivity is made by a process of calendering a polyethylene film-fibril sheet between a smooth metal roll and a soft, resilient roll to form a sheet of high specular gloss, followed by vacuum metallization of the smooth high specular gloss surface. Such metallized sheets are useful as radiant barriers or roof liners for energy savings purposes.
Abstract: Articles made from amorphous dipolymers of perfluoro-2,2-dimethyl-1,3-dioxole with tetrafluoroethylene having high glass transition temperatures of 140.degree. C. or higher, low indices of refraction, and good physical properties, and low dielectric constants, include, among others, substrates for circuit boards, composites, sheets and films, optical lenses, and electronic current carrying devices.
Abstract: Sulfate reducing bacteria are detected by preparing a lysate so as to release an enzyme essential to derive energy by reduction of sulfate such as adenosine 5'-phosphosulfate reductase (APS reductase), containing the lysate with an antibody for the enzyme, and detecting the presence of the reaction product of the enzyme and the antibody. In one aspect, sulfate reducing bacteria are controlled responsive to such assay. In another aspect, a "test kit" is provided for carrying out the assay.

Abstract: An aqueous emulsion comprising a major amount of polydimethylsiloxane and a small amount of an ethoxylated long-chain alkyl alcohol provides an advantageous finish for spandex filaments.
Abstract: An improved process is provided for making stitchbonded elastic fabrics more economically. The improvements involve stitching with an elastic thread having a high residual stretch, overfeeding fibrous web to the stitchbonding machine and removing the resultant product under low tension.
Abstract: An improved inorganic pigment (e.g., TiO.sub.2), process for treating such pigment and polymer (e.g., polyethylene, polypropylene or polystyrene) incorporating such pigment wherein the inorganic pigment is coated with maleic, malonic, benzoic, fumaric, or phthalic acid or mixtures thereof. The coated pigments exhibit excellent resistance to polymer yellowing or discoloration and do not appear to degrade polymer properties.
Abstract: A process wherein freshly-spun, undrawn, nonconductive filaments are combined with one or more spin-oriented, conductive filaments having a nonconductive component made from a major portion of nonconductive, fiber-forming polymeric material and a minor amount of polystyrene, the combined fibers being drawn and co-bulked to produce an anti-static yarn. The conductive filaments used in this process have higher elongations to break, and carpets tufted from the yarns of the process show improved anti-static properties.
Abstract: An air intake installation for the carburetor system of an outboard motor is in the form of an elongate duct e.g. 9, 13a, so configured, located or equipped as to prevent water reaching the carburetor system even if the vessel capsizes. Preferably, a tube 9 (flexible to permit steering or tilting the motor) communicates with rigid under-deck elongate buoyancy spaces forwardly open at 14 and optionally gravity-valved at this open end to close on capsizing.
Abstract: Process and apparatus are provided to distribute specified, premixed quantities of dry mortar mix and cement to a construction site. Bulk bags and a hopper apparatus are transported to the construction site and utilized with a forklift and a mixer device. The hopper apparatus is adjustably assembled and is constructed and arranged to be hand operable to efficiently meter homogeneous predetermined quantities of the mixture out of a discharge chute. The premixed contents in the bulk bags are dumped into the hopper apparatus and discharged in metered quantities into the mixer device. A water dispensing structure is provided to discharge a predetermined volume into the mixer device to form mortar or concrete for use.

Abstract: Fluorescent reagents possessing an activated phosphate for the convenient covalent coupling to the 5'-hydroxyl of oligonucleotides. A class of 5.dbd.-fluorescence-tagged oligonucleotides is also disclosed.
Abstract: An ignition circuit for explosives with a monostable multi-vibrator controlling a transistor in circuit with a battery and the primary winding of a switching transformer, with the secondary winding directly connected to spaced electrodes at the explosive.
Abstract: Water-soluble chelates represented by the formula: ##STR1## wherein R is H or alkyl (1-12C) and M is Ti or Zr. The above chelates can be prepared by reacting a Ti or Zr halide or alkoxide with between 1 & 2 molar equivalents of N,N-bix-(2-hydroxyethyl)-glycine, and used as cross-linking agents in hydraulic fracturing fluids and in gels that are used for selectively plugging permeable zones or leaks.
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and system for making reflection holograms and, more specifically, for making reflection holograms from a cylindrical surface of a master. Means are provided to direct substantially monochromatic actinic radiation through a recording medium sensitive to such radiation coupled to the cylindrical surface of the master such that the angle of incidence of the radiation on the master is substantially constant.
Abstract: A thermoformable polyaryletherketone sheet of a thickness of about 625-5000 micrometers, having repeating units derived from diphenyl ether and terephthalyl and isophthalyl groups, especially a polyetherketoneketone in which the terephthalyl to isophthalyl isomer ratio is about 70:30 to 0:100, especially 60:40 to 50:50, which thermoformable sheet has a crystallinity of 5% of less, can be fabricated into three-dimensional articles such as, e.g., panels and ducts for aircraft interiors having good formability and mold replication.
Abstract: Herbicidal sulfonamides having the general formula ##STR1## wherein J, W, R and A are more particularly described herein, such compounds and agricultural compositions containing them being useful as preemergent or postemergent herbicides or both, or as plant growth regulants, including the manner of their use.
Abstract: A process is disclosed for preparing an isomeric mixture of a monomethyl-, dimethyl- or monoethyl-substituted aniline consisting essentially of contacting at least one of said anilines with a specified zeolite at about 250.degree.-500.degree. C. and about 10 kPa-10 MPa of pressure.
