Abstract: Perfluorinated acid ion-exchange resins are highly effective catalysts for the isomerization of 3-pentenoic compounds to 4-pentenoic compounds, especially if the catalysts contain a group 8 metal in an oxidation state of at least +2.
Abstract: Amorphous copolymers of perfluoro-2,2-dimethyl-1,3-dioxole with at least one fluoro comonomer selected from one or more of ten defined classes having a recited minimum mole proportion of perfluoro-2,2-dimethyl-1,3-dioxole, in no event less than 65%, have high glass transition temperatures of 140.degree. C. or higher, low indices of refraction, and good physical properties, and low dielectric constants, which make them suitable for cladding optical fibers as well as for many electronics applications, including the manufacture of substrates for circuit boards. They all are soluble at room temperature in perfluoro(2-butyltetrahydrofuran), which makes it practical to apply them as coatings from solution.

Abstract: A process for treating an impure mixture consisting essentially of at least one olefinic impurity and at least one saturated halocarbon selected from fluorocarbons and fluorohydrocarbons by contacting the mixture with a source of hydrogen in the presence of a hydrogenation catalyst, whereby the olefinic impurity is converted to a hydrogenated form thereof, to produce a treated mixture consisting essentially of the hydrogenated form of the olefinic impurity or impurities and the saturated halocarbon or halocarbons from the impure mixture.

Abstract: A monitoring method for wastewater pump station performance and output, which method is capable of detecting an operating malfunction of the wastewater pump station such as a clog or leak within the pump, piping network or valves, or an output reduction due to pump wear. A monitoring apparatus placed at the wastewater pump staion performs continual monitoring of pump output values based on rates of rise of liquid level during pump non-run periods, time periods for the pump to reduce levels and resulting volume changes and at a controlled moment compares the values with measured reference values.

Abstract: Improved stretchable battings of differentially-shrinkable bicomponent staple fibers are obtained by cross-lapping webs, e.g. from cards, garnets or the like machines, at an angle that determines and controls the degrees of stretch in the machine direction (MD) and cross direction (XD), and then inducing helical crimp in the bicomponent fibers on account of their differential shrinkage. Such batts are especially useful in apparel.
Abstract: A microcircuit bias-current supply in a wristwatch-pager. An FM-radio receiver in a microcircuit paging device operates intermittently with a short on-time and long off-time to reduce power consumption and preserve battery life. Ths bias-supply circuit distributes predetermined bias currents to a plurality of functional circuit areas of the microcircuit die, the bias currents being disabled during off-time of the receiver such that the current drain of the entire microcircuit is virtually zero, being in the range of nanoamps. The inefficiencies and disadvantages of a series switch to switch power on and off are eliminated by providing a plurality of switched current sources which perform the dual function of circuit biasing and current switching.
Abstract: The machine incorporates two clamping means, a static one fitted to a bedframe and a movable one mounted on rods which are attached to upsetting hydraulic cylinders with their ends with provision for reciprocating back and forth. Each clamping means consists of a base and a holding-down plate which is hinged to the base and displaced by a hydraulic cylinder a body of which is hinged to the base and a piston rod of which is hinged to the holding-down plate interacting with a holding down roller in clamping workpieces. The machine is provided with a fastener in the form of an inverted L-shaped lever, a means of adjusting the alignment of the workpieces for welding, and a means of setting a gap between the workpieces, made as a plunger and an adjustable stop installed coaxially.
