  • Patent number: 5003206
Abstract: Integral solenoid and starter motor having four or more poles for internal combustion engines has an electrically conductive disc carried by the armature or core of the solenoid for movement in response to energization and de-energization of the solenoid coil. Three stationary contacts of electrically conductive material are disposed in circumferentially spaced relation about the longitudinal axis of the core for sequential engagement by the movable disc. One of the stationary contacts, connected to an electrical energy source, is disposed at a position closer to the movable disc than the other stationary contacts. The other stationary contacts are connected in parallel circuits to two poles of the starter motor whereby each contact carries one-half the current supplied by the energy source. The disc is tiltably mounted on the core for making initial contact with the first stationary contact and later, with the two other contacts in response to the solenoid being energized.

  • Patent number: 5002623
Abstract: A method of manufacturing a bag for containing liquid, the bag provided with an outlet tube. The method entails seam welding the outlet tube between two superposed bag walls, placing the bag and tube combination between the blocks of a mold, each block having confronting recesses of a particular shape and then injecting molding plastic material to fill these recesses. The injected material forms a collar which completely surrounds the tube and adjacent bag material. The bag film material on either side of the tube is melted to itself and to the tube wall and the collar is thereby securely attached in an encircling configuration thereby to preclude leakage. The tube may be a part of tap or other outlet fitting such as a push pull tap.

  • Patent number: 5003316
Abstract: A single null miniature direction finder which may be worn on the arm of the user and is fully automatic in operation. Signals from a single loop antenna and a sense antenna are summed; however, the amplitude of the sense signal is adjusted at first and second phase angles and the phase of the sense antenna is automatically switched from the first phase angle to the second phase angle prior to summing to produce either a single null or a no null pattern. These patterns are compared to each other as the user extends his arm horizontally and rotates his body. When the null occurs an indicator gives the relative direction to the transmitter.

  • Patent number: 5000586
Abstract: A sliding bearing of the type comprising a backing layer; an intermediate layer provided with internal peripheral grooved portions crosswise the bearing length and longitudinally spaced from each other; optionally, a diffusion or bonding layer on the grooved portions; and a sliding layer of a material softer than the material of the intermediate layer and filling the grooved portions. According to the invention, the grooves of the grooved portions have a depth and longitudinal spacing with uniform or variable dimensions, wherein at least one of the characteristics of depth and spacing is mandatorily variable. This design allows a selective distribution of harder material and softer material on defined portions of the bearing as a function of specific operating requirements.

  • Patent number: 4999998
Abstract: NO.sub.x and SO.sub.x molecules are separated from a combustion exhaust gas stream by directing the exhaust gases through an elongated passageway, establishing a logarithmic potential across that passageway which will cause separation of the NO.sub.x and SO.sub.x molecules from the exhaust gases based on their permanent dipole moments, the potential being established between spaced conductors and at a relatively low voltage level sufficient to generate a capacitance between the conductors sufficient to cause separation of the molecules from the exhaust gas stream for recovery in a separate chamber.
