  • Patent number: 5001831
Abstract: A method for forming a roller bearing of very small axial dimension and high load-carrying capacity, and applicable also to a large-diameter roller bearing, comprising inserting the rollers into the circumferential guide and rolling track of the outer race and holding the rollers in position by two opposing lateral shoulder-forming spring rings of small thickness which are snap-inserted into corresponding inwardly flared grooves provided in the opposing faces of the bearing outer race. The rings being locked in position by using suitable dies to axially press annular appendices which define the mouth of the annular grooves. Modifications to this method are provided, and the roller bearings obtained in accordance with the invention are described.

  • Patent number: 5002640
Abstract: A process for the production of nitrides for ceramic materials, in particr ALN, is described in which the element to be converted to the nitride is anodically oxidized. This oxidation is carried out in the presence of a nitrogen compound which can be reduced under the electrolysis conditions and of a substance which increases the conductivity. The electrolysis is followed, if necessary, by removal of volatile constituents and calcination of the product.

  • Patent number: 5002484
Abstract: A method and system for flue gas recirculation is disclosed which will minimize NOx production from hydrocarbon combustion. In the present invention a furnace having an oxygen-bearing primary source of combustion air, a mixing chamber, a combustion chamber in downstream communication with the mixing chamber and an exhaust section downstream of the combustion chamber is provided with a flue gas recirculation line. The recirculation line establishes communication between the exhaust section and the mixing chamber for the return of combustion products as a secondary source of combustion air which is relatively lean in oxygen and is combined with the primary source of combustion air in the mixing chamber. The ratio of flow rates for the primary and secondary sources of combustion air is controlled by a signal generated by a sensor which senses the oxygen concentration in the mixing chamber.

  • Patent number: 5003145
Abstract: An inductively operated apparatus for heating plastic materials in extruders or for other purposes has a heat-transmitting housing with one or more passages for the material or materials to be heated, and an arrangement for heating the housing. The heating arrangement employs a laminated core with two legs which are magnetically coupled to the housing with the interposition of distancing elements of heat insulating material. The core is surrounded by an exciting coil. In order to prevent overheating of the coil, the heating arrangement further comprises at least one barrier which is interposed between the core and the core and is cooled by one or more streams of a gaseous or liquid coolant, such as water. The barrier can be constituted by a flat tube which is convoluted around the core and supports the coil. A second barrier can be placed around the coil so that the latter is received between two barriers.

  • Patent number: 5003206
Abstract: Integral solenoid and starter motor having four or more poles for internal combustion engines has an electrically conductive disc carried by the armature or core of the solenoid for movement in response to energization and de-energization of the solenoid coil. Three stationary contacts of electrically conductive material are disposed in circumferentially spaced relation about the longitudinal axis of the core for sequential engagement by the movable disc. One of the stationary contacts, connected to an electrical energy source, is disposed at a position closer to the movable disc than the other stationary contacts. The other stationary contacts are connected in parallel circuits to two poles of the starter motor whereby each contact carries one-half the current supplied by the energy source. The disc is tiltably mounted on the core for making initial contact with the first stationary contact and later, with the two other contacts in response to the solenoid being energized.
