Abstract: A composition of improved strength, stiffness, or toughness consisting essentially of a blend of at least two incompatible thermoplastic polymers, at least one of which has a flexural modulus of less than 150 kpsi, and at least one isocyanate reacting agent having functionality less than three. The composition, an engineering plastic that is impact resistant, is useful as, for example, a molding resin, an automobile bumper or door, or high pressure tubing.
Abstract: An improved canister for the recovery of silver from acidic, waste fluids is described. This canister comprises both inner and outer element, each removable from the other, with fitted top and bottom sections. The novel canister thus described, provides a rapid flow of waste material through the system and is efficient and easy to use and manufacture than prior art elements. Plugging of the canisters due to intermittent use is also reduced in the element of this invention.
Abstract: A multifunctional card includes a substrate having a semiconductor circuit, and a housing, made of an insulating material, for housing the substrate. The housing comprises two pieces of housing halves to be fitted to contain the substrate therein. In the housing, a sheet-like member constituted by metal and insulating layers put on one another is positioned between the substrate and the housing to cover at least central portion of the substrate with the insulating layer inside. The metal layer is electrically connected to ground portions of the substrate, the ground portions of the substrate being formed so as to contact with a ground portion of a main apparatus.
Abstract: A method for forming a roller bearing of very small axial dimension and high load-carrying capacity, and applicable also to a large-diameter roller bearing, comprising inserting the rollers into the circumferential guide and rolling track of the outer race and holding the rollers in position by two opposing lateral shoulder-forming spring rings of small thickness which are snap-inserted into corresponding inwardly flared grooves provided in the opposing faces of the bearing outer race. The rings being locked in position by using suitable dies to axially press annular appendices which define the mouth of the annular grooves. Modifications to this method are provided, and the roller bearings obtained in accordance with the invention are described.

Abstract: An improved spinneret for use in dry spinning spandex filaments has coaxial inner and outer rings of grouped orifices. The number of grouped orifices in each ring is equal. Each group of orifices is radially equally spaced from the next preceding or next succeeding orifice group. The spinneret provides spandex yarns with improved decitex uniformity.
Abstract: This invention relates to carbazole diazonium salts which are used in pre-polymer or polymer compositions as sources of photoinitiated strong acids in such developments as imaging films where strong acids are needed to effect polymerization of the film or to remove protective groups.
Abstract: Composite of improved flex fatigue life comprising 50 to 70 volume percent reinforcing filaments of carbon, aramid or glass uniformly coated with a polymer in a polymeric matrix. The Young's modulus of the filament coating polymer is intermediate the Young's modulus of the filament and the matrix polymer.
Abstract: A three-dimensional object formed from a photohardenable composition containing deflecting matter of core-shell polymers. A preferred material for the polymeric core is crosslinked to an extent to be nonswellable and insoluble in solvent for noncrosslinked polymer material while the shell polymer has no pendant acid groups.
Abstract: A process for the production of nitrides for ceramic materials, in particr ALN, is described in which the element to be converted to the nitride is anodically oxidized. This oxidation is carried out in the presence of a nitrogen compound which can be reduced under the electrolysis conditions and of a substance which increases the conductivity. The electrolysis is followed, if necessary, by removal of volatile constituents and calcination of the product.

Abstract: A film package is provided for containing, heating, and browning or crispening a food item, which incorporates shields covering seal areas and other areas of the package where two or more layers of susceptor-laden film are in contact in the absence of food as a heat sink. The shields prevent the protected areas from overheating.
Abstract: A method and system for flue gas recirculation is disclosed which will minimize NOx production from hydrocarbon combustion. In the present invention a furnace having an oxygen-bearing primary source of combustion air, a mixing chamber, a combustion chamber in downstream communication with the mixing chamber and an exhaust section downstream of the combustion chamber is provided with a flue gas recirculation line. The recirculation line establishes communication between the exhaust section and the mixing chamber for the return of combustion products as a secondary source of combustion air which is relatively lean in oxygen and is combined with the primary source of combustion air in the mixing chamber. The ratio of flow rates for the primary and secondary sources of combustion air is controlled by a signal generated by a sensor which senses the oxygen concentration in the mixing chamber.

Abstract: The present invention relates to circuit board contact elements and compliant sections thereof which are mounted in plated-through holes in printed circuit boards, generally in conjunction with a plastic header or other electrical connectors.
Abstract: An inductively operated apparatus for heating plastic materials in extruders or for other purposes has a heat-transmitting housing with one or more passages for the material or materials to be heated, and an arrangement for heating the housing. The heating arrangement employs a laminated core with two legs which are magnetically coupled to the housing with the interposition of distancing elements of heat insulating material. The core is surrounded by an exciting coil. In order to prevent overheating of the coil, the heating arrangement further comprises at least one barrier which is interposed between the core and the core and is cooled by one or more streams of a gaseous or liquid coolant, such as water. The barrier can be constituted by a flat tube which is convoluted around the core and supports the coil. A second barrier can be placed around the coil so that the latter is received between two barriers.
Abstract: A blend of a softer continuous phase polymer reinforced with harder acrylic star polymer particles having reactive functional groups with crosslinking ability built in or provided by a third polymer. The harder polymer has a T.sub.g at least 10.degree. C. above that of the softer polymer, and the acrylic star polymer is preferably made by group transfer polymerization. This blend provides coating compositions, films and bulk polymer with enhanced toughness and flexibility.
Abstract: Integral solenoid and starter motor having four or more poles for internal combustion engines has an electrically conductive disc carried by the armature or core of the solenoid for movement in response to energization and de-energization of the solenoid coil. Three stationary contacts of electrically conductive material are disposed in circumferentially spaced relation about the longitudinal axis of the core for sequential engagement by the movable disc. One of the stationary contacts, connected to an electrical energy source, is disposed at a position closer to the movable disc than the other stationary contacts. The other stationary contacts are connected in parallel circuits to two poles of the starter motor whereby each contact carries one-half the current supplied by the energy source. The disc is tiltably mounted on the core for making initial contact with the first stationary contact and later, with the two other contacts in response to the solenoid being energized.
Abstract: A multiple telephone jack slide assembly includes a jack support member for supporting a multitude of telephone jacks upon an electronic wire connecting system. The jack support member has a longitudinal channel formed by a slotted opening for slidingly receiving telephone jacks, the side walls of the telephone jacks engaging edge portions of the slotted opening. One or more retaining members are secured to the jack support member to inhibit further sliding movement of the telephone jacks after the same are inserted in the channel through an opening communicating therewith.
