Abstract: Novel copolyetherketones derived from diphenyl ether and aromatic diacids or diacid halides are disclosed where the diphenyl ether is present in a molar excess relative to the diacid or diacid halide chlorides of about 2 to 8%.
Abstract: Specific fluoroethoxy pyrimidines and triazines are useful as general or selective preemergent and postemergent herbicides. Ortho-ethoxy and ortho-propoxy substituted benzenesulfonamides, such as 2-ethoxy-N-[[4-methoxy-6-(2,2,2-trifluoroethoxy)1,3,5-triazin-2-yl]aminoca rboxyl]benzenesulfonamide and N-[[4-methoxy-6-(2,2,2-trifluoroethoxy)-1,3,5-triazin-2-yl]aminocarbonyl]- 2-propoxybenzenesulfonamide, and their agriculturally suitable salts show pre-emergent and postemergent herbicidal utility in corn.

Abstract: Describes a process for controlling the polymerization and cross-linked density of electrophoretic gel products useful for separation of bioorganic molecules, which process does not use initiators common to processes of the art. Electron beam polymerized gels afford the desired advantages of being ultra thin and having a high electrophoretic resolution with programmable porosity profiles.
Abstract: A process for annealing drawn polyester filaments with saturated steam of at least about 150 psig provides products with a novel fine structure that results in an improved balance of strength, dyeability, shrinkage, crimpability and trimer in the product.

Abstract: A nonwoven fabric is provided which comprises a layer of nonbonded, polyethylene, plexifilamentary film-fibril strands, which layer is multi-needle stitched with a stitching thread that forms spaced-apart, parallel rows of stitches in the fabric. Stitching thread of spandex yarn which causes the fabric to contract to 35 to 70% of its original area is preferred. The nonwoven fabric is particularly suited for use as a wipe-cloth.
Abstract: A process for preparing a gel confection comprises: (a) heating a first component comprising sugar, water, and a first gelling agent under conditions which activate the first gelling agent; (b) preparing a second component comprising a second gelling agent which is a granular, nonbirefringent cold-water-swelling starch under conditions which prevent activation of the second gelling agent; (c) mixing the first component and the second component under conditions which activate the second gelling agent; (d) obtaining the desired mixture viscosity for forming; and (e) forming the mixture into the desired shape.
Abstract: These improvements to semiconductor lasers allow the fabrication of high-efficiency photoemitting devices thanks to a decrease in the threshold current necessary to optical emission stimulation. They consist in the application of a suitable magnetic field apt to confine carrier current within a limited zone of the active layer.

Abstract: Novel particle reagent for light scattering immunoassays are provided. The particle reagents are high refractive index shell-core polymers, having at least a partial surface coverage by a monomolecular layer of anionic surfactant, covalently bonded to compounds of biological interest. The novel particle reagents are particularly suited to protein immobilization by covalent bonding to the shell and are especially useful for light scattering immunoassays.
Abstract: Apparatus for manufacturing a master rack which in turn is employed in the manufacturing of forging dies to form nonuniform tooth configuartion, which includes an EDM machine having upper and lower platens and mechanism for raising and lowering the upper platen, rack blank support mechanism arranged for longitudinal movement in the rack blank axis and mounted on the lower platen, an electrode in the form of a facsimile of a helical pinion rotatably mounted in bracket attached to the upper platen, mechanism for rotating the electrode intermittently, mechanism causing axial movement of the rack blank past the electrode in accordance with the rotational movement of the electrode, a cam coordinating the position of the electrode in relation to the axis of the rack blank, and a cam follower attached to the bracket and contacting the last-named cam.
Abstract: A stream of gas and waxy oil is cooled by an expansion turbine to form a wax/oil slurry, and the slurry is pipeline transported without wax deposition in the pipeline and/or to prevent melting of permafrost along the pipeline right of way.

Abstract: A vehicular lamp having a one piece open topped resilient housing containing an outer peripheral groove that permits the housing to be snapped into a receiving opening formed in a body panel of a vehicle. The housing further includes an inner peripheral groove located above the outer groove into which a lens is snap fitted to close the housing. The inner groove is offset from the outer groove a sufficient distance so that the lens can be removed and replaced without having to remove the housing from the body panel. An outwardly disposed lip protrudes from the top of the outer groove that is inclined downwardly over the groove opening so that it will form a biased seal against the rim of the panel opening when the lamp is snap-locked in place.
Abstract: An improved paint spraying device for applying coats of paint to an object in which the machine has a paint spray gun, a gear pump gun that pumps paint to the spray gun from a vessel containing paint, a variable speed electric motor that drives the gear pump, a pump motor controller that controls the electric motor of the gear pump, means for moving the spray gun vertically and horizontally and for controlling the speed and acceleration of the movement of the gun, means for controlling the number of passes made by the gun, the dwell period at the end of each pass and the flash time between coats of paint applied by the gun; wherein the improvement is as follows:a.
Abstract: The method allows surface defect reduction in silica optical-fibres by enriching the external layer by silica bonded carbon atoms within the silica network: SiC.SiO.sub.2. Carbon is obtained from chemical reaction directly during the drawing step.Volume defects are reduced by rapidly cooling the fibre structure heated up to vitrous transition temperature. The apparatus allows the method to be carried out during drawing step.
