  • Patent number: 4345831
Abstract: A film processor having film transport rollers driven by a drive motor, a sensor for generating a signal representative of roller transport speed and a film density detector arrangement that includes a photodetector responsive to the intensity of a light source for generating a reference background level signal against which processed film is compared is characterized by a monitoring arrangement which periodically samples the photodetector output signal and adjusts a reference background level signal in accordance with fluctuations in the output of the scanner arrangement. To prevent the system from reacting to momentary perturbations in background level a moving weighted averaging technique is employed. The rate at which the reference background level signal is sampled is determined by the transport roller speed.

  • Patent number: 4345219
Abstract: A frequency agile phase detector includes a digital frequency detector section connected to a hold-sample-hold phase detector section. The digital frequency detector develops control signals related to frequency differences between a reference periodic signal and a variable periodic signal. The control signal determines the amplitude of a voltage signal impressed across a first hold circuit. A sample signal acts to sample and transfer the sample voltage signal from the first to a second hold circuit so as to reduce phase differences between the reference and variable periodic signals. The detector is incorporated into a phase locked loop using the VCO output as the variable periodic signal so that acquisition and lockup of the loop is obtained even when the two periodic signals are decades apart. Additionally, the hold-sample-hold section aids in reducing the reference and sampling energy required which results in a spectrally pure output signal.

  • Patent number: 4344621
Abstract: A practice device for use in the practice of those sports involving the hurling or striking of a ball or other sport projectile toward a specified target. The device of the invention serves to safely arrest the flight of the projectile while informing the user of the exact point of impact of the projectile relative to a defined target zone. The target is a polymeric foam mat having a polymeric sheet bonded to its front face. The sheet removably carries target indicia. Apertures through the foam mat make up 40 to 50 percent of the total surface area of the mat. When a projectile strikes the sheet, an indentation, which lasts from 5 to 60 seconds, indicates the point of impact.
