Abstract: A magnetizable anisotropic material layer having a pattern of regions of differently aligned material has an initial pattern of remanent magnetization, when manufactured by applying directional magnetic fields. This pattern is not easily restored, and is generally impossible to restore, after demagnetization or remagnetization. By preserving the residual pattern and selectively removing it in use by the application of a magnetic field, a security feature is provided. A secure document system using such a feature is provided.

Abstract: A device for automatically compensating for wear in a friction clutch of the kind which is released by a pedal-operated control lever acting on a cable through an intermediate element articulated to the control lever, has a toothed sector on the intermediate element which meshes with a pinion carried by structure which is pivoted on the intermediate element about the axis of the toothed sector. When the control lever is depressed to disengage the clutch the pinion is engaged by a stop surface which prevents rotation of the pinion, so that the intermediate member moves with the control lever; when the control lever returns to its rest position, however, the stop surface disengages from the pinion, allowing the latter to rotate, so that the intermediate member can assume a new position relative to the control lever, thereby taking up wear in the clutch.

Abstract: A marking head rotatably supports a plurality of marking wheels that are supported for rotation by a shaft positioned in the marking head. The marking wheels each include a periphery with a plurality of marking characters positioned thereon for marking plates, name plates, identification plates and the like with a preselected marking character. A preselected marking character for each wheel is positioned in marking position by rotating the respective marking wheel through a preselected angle which is preferably the angle for advancing the next adjacent character into marking position. A plurality of fingers are rotatably positioned on a shaft for engaging a ratchet portion of a respective wheel. Each finger is rotatably supported to selectively move into and out of engagement with the respective ratchet portion by operation of an air actuated plunger abutting the end of the finger.
Abstract: An improved electrical connector including dual contacts comprising an insulating support, an arcuately stressed spring having each end confined within the support, and a flexible printed circuit stretched over the spring is provided. The contact function is accomplished by the flexible circuit. The spring is adapted to deflect and resiliently flex at its midpoint during engagement with a mating contact at which time the spring surfaces on both sides of their midpoints resiliently press the flexible circuit against the mating contact. The resilient flexure of the spring provides redundant pressure points between the flexible printed circuit and the mating contact and eliminates the need for a spring having both the sufficient resilience and the necessary conductive properties.
Abstract: In the production of elastomeric polypropylene by polymerizing propylene in the presence of a catalyst system which is the reaction product of a metal oxide and and an organometallic compound of Zr, Ti or Hf under conditions such that the reaction medium contains liquid propylene, a fluid, mobile slurry of polypropylene in propylene is formed by mixing the components of the catalyst system together in the presence of the propylene to be polymerized.

Abstract: Prior to applying aqueous coatings to ferrous metal substrates, triethanolamine is applied. This permits subsequent coating without flash rusting.
Abstract: A fascia gutter assembly comprises a gutter of channelled form, with a bottom and upright front and rear flanges, supported by a series of brackets adapted to be secured to the roof structure of a building, the brackets also supporting a fascia panel below and substantially co-planar with the front flange of the gutter, the top of the fascia panel being clipped into engagement with the bottom of the gutter, the gutter front flange and fascia panel then having the appearance of a single fascia.
Abstract: Utilization of hydrocarbon feedstocks in the manufacture of methanol by catalytic conversion of synthesis gas is improved by adding a carbon oxide to a hydrogen-rich purge gas from the process and catalytically converting the carbon oxide-enriched purge gas in a secondary reactor to form additional methanol. The secondary reactor effluent consists essentially of methanol, water and unreacted gases. Methanol is readily separated therefrom.
Abstract: Aromatic polyamide foams having a density of 0.025 to 0.7 g./cm..sup.3 are prepared by heating N-alkyl aromatic polyamides having at least one .beta. hydrogen atom on the alkyl groups, a plasticizer and an aromatic sulfonic acid catalyst at 250.degree. to 340.degree. C. for a length of time sufficient to remove substantially all of the N-alkyl groups.
Abstract: Reduced odor is achieved in certain reactive fluid adhesive compositions while maintaining adequate adhesive properties by using higher molecular weight (C.sub.10 -C.sub.18) acrylic and methacrylic ester monomers in combination with minor quantities of diacrylate or dimethacrylate monomers, instead of lower molecular weight acrylic and methacrylic ester monomers generally used in such adhesives.
Abstract: High modulus filaments are melt-spun from polyesters which are derived from certain substituted aromatic diketodiols and aromatic dicarboxylic acids. The polyesters are optically anisotropic in the melt. As-spun filaments from these polyesters can be heat treated while free from tension to increase their tenacity.
Abstract: A gate latch is described comprising a tubular support, a latch member having a shaft portion mounted within said tubular support for rotation therein and a latch portion extending axially outwardly from said shaft portion having at least two peripherally, substantially equispaced, projections extending axially outwardly from said shaft portion, said spacing being such as to permit entry between adjacent projections of a complemental gate locking bar extending from a complemental gate, said locking bar having locking means at its free end to engage one or other of said adjacent projections to lock the gate relative to said tubular support.A combination of the above gate latch and the complemental gate locking bar and gate described above is also disclosed.

Abstract: A conferencing circuit for use in a digitized voice, time division multiplex (TDM) loop communication system. Digitized speech samples from conferee subscriber stations are extracted from the TDM loop and summed over a frame interval. The sum is stored and the input from each subscriber station is subtracted from the sum and the remainder is placed on the TDM loop for return to the respective station. A conference control signal is generated which is synchronous with the TDM loop and the subscriber station's time slot and has a given state for each slot assigned to a subscriber station that participates in the conference. The conference control signal controls the circuitry which sums the digitized speech samples generated by the conference subscriber stations.
