Abstract: A multiphase polymer composition having increased impact resistance at low temperatures, includes a blend of an ionomer dispersed in nylon 6, a polyamide other than nylon 6, and a composition that includes EP or EPDM grafted with 0.05 to 3 weight percent of a carboxylic acid or any anhydride thereof. The ionomer is formed from a partially neutralized acid copolymer precursor, the acid copolymer precursor having polymerized in-chain units derived from the monomers comprising: (a) ethylene, (b) 2 to 25 weight percent of (meth)acrylic acid, (c) 0.1 to 15 weight percent of a dicarboxylic acid monomer, (d) 0-40 weight percent of a C1-C8-alkyl alkyl acrylate, the ionomer being formed by neutralization of from about 5 to 90 percent of the total number of carboxylic acid units in the copolymer with metal ions.
Abstract: A molding nozzle controls the flow of material from a source of plastic melt to an outlet that communicates with a gate to a mold cavity. The nozzle contains a valve pin that includes a guide section and a valve end, and is movable toward and away from the gate to open and close the gate selectively. The valve pin is guided for movement by guide surfaces on inwardly-extending vanes within the nozzle, such that the guide surfaces engage the guide section of the valve pin. The valve end of the valve pin has a smaller diameter than that of the guide section, so that the valve section is free-floating to allow annular flow in the guide surface region to minimize the likelihood of formation of flow lines in the molded part.
Abstract: A composition comprising a Group VIII metal and a phosphite-containing polymer having repeat units derived from (1) a carbonyl compound, a monomer, and phosphochloridite; (2) phosphorus trichloride, a polyhydric alcohol, and an aromatic diol; or (3) combinations of (1) and (2).
Abstract: The disclsoure describes an electric conductor having a coating layer with the property of strippability so that it can be stripped from the electric conductor, and a method for controlling the strippability of the coating layer from the electric conductor, with the electrical insulation properties of the cable coating being kept constant after exposure to moisture. The method involves adding to a polymeric composition forming the coating layer a predetermined amount of a polyolefinic compound, which contains at least one unsaturation and at least one carboxyl group in the polymer chain.
Abstract: A system comprising a plurality of components comprising data and a component assembly engine. The component assembly engine performing the steps: (1) receiving one of the plurality of components, the one of the plurality of components comprising a root component, (2) determining, as a function of the root component, at least one child component of the root component, (3) receiving another of the plurality of components, the other of the plurality of components comprising the at least one child component, and (4) rendering content as a function of at least one of said at least one child component and said root component.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for producing &agr;-hydroxy acids using an enzyme catalyst having nitrilase activity. More specifically, the invention pertains to use of Acidovorax facilis 72W (ATCC 55746) nitrilase to hydrolyze glycolonitrile to glycolic acid. Glycolonitrile is reacted in an aqueous mixture with a catalyst having Acidovorax facilis 72W nitrilase activity to give glycolic acid selectively, and at high concentration and high yield.

Abstract: Ethylene is polymerized by novel nickel or iron complexes of selected novel 2,2-bipyridine-6-imines, optionally with the addition of other cocatalysts. The polymers are useful for films and molding resins.
Abstract: An expandable, self-adjusting core plug which will maintain a fit between core plug and an out-of-round web roll core. The present invention accomplishes this by providing a core plug with a number of individual, elongated beveled ribs and a corresponding beveled spindle, both of which cooperatively and axially adjust the thickness of the core plug to meet variations in the inner diameter of the core.
Abstract: Ethylene is oligomerized with certain catalysts based on iron and cobalt complexes of 2,6-pyridinecarboxaldehydebis(imine) and 2,6-diacylpyridine-bis(imine) tridentate ligands.
Abstract: The corkscrew for a wine steward is of the type which contains a helicoidal body (1) to be inserted in the cap of a bottle to be opened, this body being hinged to an element (2) of lengthened shape. The main feature of the invention resides in the fact that it also contains an apparatus (4) which is common to devices of this type, capable of opening caps having a crown and an extension (7), which substantially extends for the entire length of element (2), is hinged (7′) to the apparatus (4). This extension makes it easier substantially for the user the operation of raising the cap and also allows the operator to open the bottle without touching with his hands the mouth of the bottle.

Abstract: An improved design and manufacturing method is disclosed for calendered, double side segment coated webs. By staggering the leading edges and/or the trailing edges of the segment coatings on one side of the web from those on the other side, web damage, including the incidence of breakage, can be reduced. Further, vibration and wear on the calendering apparatus can be reduced. The invention is particularly useful for heavily calendered webs such as the electrodes in non-aqueous rechargeable lithium ion batteries.

Abstract: An oxygen generator of an emergency chemical oxygen generating system is mounted on a sliding mechanism that displaces the oxygen generator vertically and horizontally away from the walls of the oxygen generator container when the door of the module is opened, in order to reduce the heating of the container walls and the surrounding areas. The sliding mechanism can be a telescoping assembly having multiple sliding segments, a slot in the side of the module wall with a tab attached to the generator such that the tab slides within the slot allowing for downward sliding of the generator, or an arrangement of channels and rollers. The movement of the generator from a stowed position to a use position can also initiate the flow of oxygen.
Abstract: Adhesion promoting compositions comprising mixtures of carboxylated unsaturated polymers and a) amines; b) amine derivatives; or c) mixtures of hydroxy compounds and quaternary phosphonium salt accelerators or quaternary ammonium salt accelerators are useful as components of curable elastomer compositions. The curable compositions exhibit excellent adhesion to fluoropolymers.
Abstract: Beads of melt-fabricable fluoropolymer dispersion particles are produced by a solvent-aided pelletization process using fluorinated solvent containing ether oxygen.
