  • Patent number: 10881447
Abstract: Systems and methods for treating or manipulating biological tissues are provided. In the systems and methods, a biological tissue is placed in contact with an array of electrodes. Electrical pulses are then applied between a bias voltage bus and a reference voltage bus of a distributor having switching elements associated with each of the electrodes. The switching elements provide a first contact position for coupling electrodes to bias voltage bus, a second contact position for coupling electrodes to the reference voltage bus, and a third contact position for isolating electrodes from the high and reference voltage buses. The switching elements are operated over various time intervals to provide the first contact position for first electrodes, a second contact position for second electrodes adjacent to the first electrodes, and a third contact position for a remainder of the electrodes adjacent to the first and second electrodes.

  • Patent number: 10886516
Abstract: A membrane is provided that includes a membrane substrate defining a plurality of pores to allow ion transport therethrough; an ion-doped conductive polymer disposed on a surface of the membrane substrate; and a conductive material disposed between the membrane substrate and the ion-doped conductive polymer. The membrane may have an areal density from about 0.01 Coulombs per cm2 (C/cm2) to about 100 C/cm2. Such membranes provide for controlled bidirectional ion transport therethrough and may be used in electrochemical cells that includes such membranes as part of (or the entirety of) the separator. Such separators may be used to control charge transfer through the electrochemical cell and/or reversibly stop charge transfer therethrough to prevent thermal runaway.

  • Patent number: 10885428
Abstract: A neural device to which a conditioned response function is imparted and a driving method thereof are disclosed. Quantum dots and a polymer insulating layer are formed between upper and lower electrodes. Conductive filaments are formed at interfaces between the quantum dots and the polymer insulating layer. When a positive pulse, which is an unconditioned stimulus signal, is applied, the conductive filaments are formed, and a low resistance state is implemented. As the number of applications of a negative pulse, which is a conditioned stimulus signal, increases, the neural device is switched from a high resistance state to the low resistance state. Through this, the neural device having learning ability for the conditioned stimulus signal may be implemented and driven.
