Abstract: A variable sector size for a flash memory device is disclosed. The total available memory of the flash memory device is divided into sub-units. Each sub-unit has a pre-decoder coupled with it to enable operations on the memory within that sub-unit. A sector size control register is coupled with pre-decoder enabling logic which is coupled with the pre-decoders. The sector size control register and pre-decoder enabling logic determines how many pre-decoders, and therefore how many sub-units, are activated at a given time for a given memory operation.

Abstract: A servo controller for correcting a read position of a head when reading data recorded on a recording medium. In accordance with the amplitude ratio of data signals read from each segment of a servo section defined on a recording medium, the servo controller generates an AGC signal corresponding to the next segment before reading the next segment. The data signal read from a phase detection segment of the servo section is amplified to an amplitude greater than the predetermined determination range. The amplified data signal is converted to a two-value digital signal in accordance with the determination range. The phase used during servo control is calculated in accordance with the digital signal.
Abstract: A relatively compact trimming circuit for hypothetically breaking a fuse includes a resistance bypass circuit connected to a node between a resistor and a fuse. The bypass circuit selectively performs ordinary breakage and hypothetical breakage of the fuse in accordance with a control signal and a data signal. An output changeover circuit connected to the node generates a first output signal in accordance with a state of the fuse during the ordinary breakage. The output changeover circuit generates a second output signal in accordance with the data signal during the hypothetical breakage.

Abstract: A semiconductor memory device, in which a cell plate potential does not fluctuate even when the device state is changed from a state without stored charge in all charge storage nodes of the cell capacitors at power-on to an access operation state, comprises NMOS transistors M1 to Mk for connecting a line VPR as a feeder for a reference voltage VPR from a reference voltage generation circuit with a line VCP as a feeder for a reference voltage VCP from the reference voltage generation circuit in each of cell blocks B1 to Bk. Gate terminals of the NMOS transistors M1 to Mk are connected to a common signal &phgr;CPR. The signal &phgr;CPR outputs a positive logical level at a predetermined time after power-on. By providing the NMOS transistors M1 to Mk for short-circuiting the line VPR with the line VCP in each of the cell blocks B1 to Bk, both lines are short-circuited in each of the cell blocks B1 to Bk.

Abstract: A processing method for copying between storage device data regions and a memory system are provided to allow immediate access in a state of having completed copying in response to a copy instruction, even when actual data is being copied in a remote system, thus preventing a decrease in the performance of the access to the copy source during copying. Processes include copying data in a data region of a copy source to an intermediate media data region for each prescribed block unit in response to a copy instruction, as well as copying the data copied to the intermediate media data region to a copy destination data region. Processes also include interrupting copying and processing an access when there is an external access for a block of the copy source or the copy destination data region during the copy processing.
