Patent number: 4787023Abstract: A power supply apparatus, in which the three phases of an alternating-current main are connected each through rectifier elements connected in antiparallel to the primary winding of a three-phase transformer. The secondary windings of this transformer are connected through rectifiers to a load device, such as an electron beam gun or other such device which produces short-circuits while in operation. Measuring sensors are provided on the primary AC side which, in the presence of an excess current on the primary AC side, block controlled rectifier elements. The blocking takes place very rapidly because GTO thyristors are used as rectifier elements. The decay of the magnetic energy in the transformer is achieved by the fact that the primary side of this transformer is connected in delta.Type: GrantFiled: June 8, 1987Date of Patent: November 22, 1988Assignee: Leybold-Heraeus GmbHInventor: Friedrich-Werner Thomas

Patent number: 4778537Abstract: To make a jacketed thermoelement, two metal wires, one of which is pure platinum, preferably of at least 99.9, and even higher purity, and the other being a platinum/rhodium alloy are included in a ceramic element. The wires are first threaded into capillary openings of a cylindrical ceramic element which is jacketed by a jacket of platinum-rhodium alloy or INCONEL (TM). The initial assembly is hammered, thereby crashing the ceramic, and drawn to reduce the outer diameter of the metal jacket tube to fit the inner diameter of an auxiliary tube, for example of a copper-tin alloy which is fitted over the metal jacket tube. The thus formed composite is then passed through a sequence of drawing dies, preferably in a single drawing pull, in which each die reduces the cross-section by about 9-10%, until the desired outer diameter of the metal jacket tube (4) is reached; this diameter may be in the order of 0.3 mm, after starting with an outer diameter of just under 5 mm.Type: GrantFiled: August 4, 1987Date of Patent: October 18, 1988Assignee: W. Patent number: 4778202Abstract: Tubular components made out of quartz glass or fused quartz, such as tubes, bells, hoods, or pans, with a flange fused or welded onto them are known. To improve cooling such a tubular component, especially the sealing surfaces of the flange, heat conduction and heat radiation in the vicinity of the flange are extensively avoided and, to make it possible to create long-diameter tubular components, the flange is designed hollow and narrow-walled, whereby a coolant, preferably water or a gas, can be conveyed through the hollow space in one preferred embodiment for purposes of interior cooling or the hollow space can be packed with a heat-insulating material.Type: GrantFiled: May 22, 1987Date of Patent: October 18, 1988Assignee: W. Patent number: 4769533Abstract: The invention relates to a circuit arrangement for a position sensitive radiation detector which produces a current or voltage signal (U.sub.Y) that depends exclusively on the coordinates x and y of the point of incidence of electromagnetic radiation on the EMR sensitive surface of a lateral diode (1). For this purpose, the circuit arrangement has integrators (4, 5), in which the voltages (U.sub.1, U.sub.2) are formed, which are proportional to the integral over time of the output currents (I.sub.1, I.sub.2) of the lateral diode (1). The difference between the voltages (U.sub.1, U.sub.2) is used as a signal, which depends exclusively on the coordinates at that particular time, at which the arithmetic mean of these voltages (U.sub.1, U.sub.2) has reached a preselected, constant value.Type: GrantFiled: August 17, 1987Date of Patent: September 6, 1988Assignee: Leybold-Heraeus GmbHInventors: Martin Groschl, Gerd Pfersmann

Patent number: 4767641Abstract: Device for the plasma treatment of substrates (7) in a high frequency-excited plasma discharge between two electrodes (3, 8), supplied by a high-frequency source (6). The first electrode is constructed as a hollow anode (3) and the second electrode (8), which carries the substrate (7), is deposited in front of the hollow space (10) of the hollow anode or can be passed by this. Moreover, the hollow anode (3) has an edge (9), which is drawn out in the direction of the second electrode (8) and which, relative to the second electrode, forms a gap s.sub.1 all around that does not exceed 10 mm in width. In order to form the electrode so that the gap width is not a critical feature, projections (12) are disposed in the hollow space (10) of the hollow anode (3), said projections increasing the internal surface area (11) of the hollow anode (3). Preferably, these projections (12) are constructed as rib structures, which may also assume a honeycomb form.Type: GrantFiled: July 3, 1986Date of Patent: August 30, 1988Assignee: Leybold-Heraeus GmbHInventors: Jorg Kieser, Michael Sellschopp, Michael Geisler

Patent number: 4762730Abstract: A method for producing a transparent protective coating on a plastic optical substrate surface is disclosed. In particular, a substrate is positioned between two electrodes on the cathode in a reaction chamber. Once positioned, a noble gas is introduced into the chamber and the surface of the plastic optical substrate is bombarded. A monomeric organic compound of either siloxane or silazane is introduced into the reaction chamber and a bias voltage of a value in the range of 80 to 500 volts is obtained to polymerize the compound on the substrate surface. Following the beginning of this polymerization, oxygen is introduced into the reaction chamber in an amount of about 5 times the amount of the monomeric organic compound to form a mixture with the compound.Type: GrantFiled: September 3, 1986Date of Patent: August 9, 1988Assignee: Leybold-Heraeus GmbHInventors: Knut Enke, Walter Zultzke
