  • Patent number: 4752937
Abstract: A gas laser has a coolable inner electrode for connection to a radio-frequency power source and a coolable outer electrode that is coaxial with and radially spaced from the inner electrode with an excitation space containing the gas to be excited in the radial space between the inner and outer electrodes. With a view to improving a laser of this type in such a way that excitation at higher power with retention of homogeneous discharge is possible, that gas decomposition is slower, and that any desired liquid coolant can be used regardless of the electrical conditions, the excitation space is radially bounded by two, tubular dielectric bodies which are coaxial with and radially spaced from each other.

  • Patent number: 4746417
Abstract: A magnetron sputtering cathode for vacuum coating apparatus has a circular target plate and at least one magnet system disposed in back of it which forms at least one endless tunnel of magnetic lines of force over the target plate. In the marginal area of the target plate there is disposed a first magnet system for the production of a first magnetic tunnel substantially concentric with the axis of rotation, and between the axis of rotation and the first magnet system there is an off-center second magnet system which produces a second magnetic tunnel extending over only a sector of the target plate. When the two magnet systems are rotated together the elements of the surface of the target plate are exposed to the product of the time of stay times the intensity such that the target plate is ablated more uniformly in the middle area and more strongly at the margin, so that a substrate field placed opposite the target plate is uniformly coated.

  • Patent number: 4744091
Abstract: A gas laser has (1) a reflecting body with a reflecting surface, (2) excitation space structure cooperative with the reflecting body for defining an excitation space which is open opposite the reflecting surface of the reflecting body, (3) devices for lasingly exciting a gas in the excitation space and (4) a mirror assembly. • Patent number: 4742528
Abstract: A compensation device for the influence of the weight of a power feed line on a weight measurement device determining the weight of an electrode and/or the melting rate in an electro-slag remelting process, in a vacuum arc furnace or the like. When an x-y device is adjusted, a weight jump occurs due to the forces of the power cable or the forces of the bellows, which has a disturbing effect on the rate definition. This weight jump can be prevented by means of mechanical devices, or can be made so small that it no longer constitutes a disturbance. However, the expenditure for this is disproportionately high. The invention is more cost efficient, since hardware or software means suffice. The weight function G=f(t) is extrapolated and compared with the actually measured weight G'=f(t). The magnitude of the difference between the two is stored and later added as a correction value.

  • Patent number: 4734183
Abstract: In a sputtering cathode on the magnetron principle with a target consisting of at least one piece and composed of the material to be sputtered, there is disposed in back of the target a magnet system having a plurality of magnet units of alternately different polarity. These form at least two endless magnetic tunnels of arching lines of force situated one within the other. The poles of the magnet units that face away from the target are joined together by a magnet yoke of soft-magnetic material. To solve the problem of being able to deposit coatings of uniform thickness with only one source of power per cathode, provision is made such that the strength of at least one magnetic field forming a magnetic tunnel can be varied relative to the strength of at least one additional magnetic field forming an additional magnetic tunnel.

  • Patent number: 4728850
Abstract: In a mounting device for electrically heated, spirally wound wire cathodes in electron guns, two mounting posts joined together by an insulator are configured as sector-shaped sections of a hollow cylinder, and have each a circumferential groove on its end remote from the insulator. The surfaces defining the grooves are parts of common circular and cylindrical surfaces, and the mounting ends of the cathodes are of a configuration approximately complementary to that of the grooves in the mounting posts. The mounting ends therefore lie in a spring-biased and form-fitting manner in the circumferential grooves.

  • Patent number: 4719317
Abstract: To form a sturdy, environmentally essentially unaffected and high-temperature resistance electrical connection between a connection wire (4) and a conductive track (2) on the substrate (1), a portion of the wire (4) is embedded in a unitary bonding element (3). The bonding element comprises about 70% of metal particles and 30% of glass particles to form a bonding spot. The bonding spot is made by applying a paste of glass and platinum powder, with the glass powder having a grain size several times larger than the platinum powder on the conductive track (2), pressing the end portion of the connection wire (4) into the spot so that the wire will be completely surrounded, and then firing the bonding spot. If the conductive track (2) is applied by film technology, firing of the conductive track (2) and of the bonding spot (3) can be carried out in a single operating step.
