Abstract: A force absorbing device for a footwear appliance includes a shoe upper and a shoe sole having a planar sole surface, such that forces between the shoe upper and planar sole surface in ground contact are absorbed by force mitigation structures disposed in the shoe sole. A footwear article includes a split-sole system that redefines a shoe sole as coplanar surfaces having a force mitigating interface for receiving sudden forces and effectively mitigating these forces by storing kinetic energy and releasing it over time. An elastic field in the force mitigation structure is defined by a resilient material adapted to deform in response to the received force. Frictional engagement between the upper and lower sole may also be augmented by surface characteristics such as dimples, voids and lubricants, in addition to interference engagement with an elastic field.

Abstract: A three-dimensional imaging system and method are provided. The three-dimensional imaging system includes a suspension force field generator, a projection module, and a controller. The suspension force field generator generates a suspension force field to suspend a plurality of scattering particles used for scattering incident light and distribute the scattering particles on a projection plane. The projection module projects an image on the projection plane. The controller is coupled to the suspension force field generator and the projection module, controls the suspension force field generator to change the suspension force field so that the projection plane where the scattering particles are distributed moves in a display space, extracts a slice plane image that matches a position of the projection plane from multiple slice plane images sliced from a three-dimensional stereoscopic image, and controls the projection module to project the extracted slice plane image to the projection plane.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a common-path cube-corner retroreflector interferometer with a large optical path difference and high stability, and an interference technique thereof. The interferometer adopts an asymmetric common-path beam splitting structure using right-angled cube-corner retroreflectors, comprising a semi-transmissive and semi-reflective beam splitter, a plane mirror, a first right-angled cube-corner retroreflector, a second right-angled cube-corner retroreflector and an optical path difference element. The incident light is divided into a first transmitted beam and a second reflected beam, which are respectively reflected by the plane mirror and the right-angled cube-corner retroreflectors several times and then split again, two beams of which become interference outputs along directions perpendicular to an incident direction of the incident light, and the other two beams become interference outputs along directions parallel to the incident light.

Abstract: A neural network based corrector for photon counting detectors is described. A method for photon count correction includes receiving, by a trained artificial neural network (ANN), a detected photon count from a photon counting detector. The detected photon count corresponds to an attenuated energy spectrum. The attenuated energy spectrum is related to characteristics of an imaging object and is based, at least in part, on an incident energy spectrum. The method further includes correcting, by the trained ANN, the detected photon count to produce a corrected photon count. The method may include reconstructing, by image reconstruction circuitry, an image based, at least in part, on the corrected photon count.

Compared with the prior art, the multi-purpose planetary exploration rover of this invention can effectively explore special geographic locations such as cliffs, volcanic craters, craters and lava caves on alien planets.
