Abstract: An object within a region is exposed to a first beam of penetrating radiation. The first beam of penetrating radiation is sensed on a side opposite the region from a source of the first beam. An attenuation of the first beam caused by passing the first beam through the object is determined, the attenuation is compared to a threshold attenuation. Abstract: A method for eliminating precipitates contained in an II-VI solid semiconductor material, in which the solid semiconductor material is a congruent sublimation solid semiconductor material, the method including: providing an inert gas flow; heating the solid semiconductor material under the inert gas flow up to a temperature T, between a first temperature T1, corresponding to compound II-VI/element VI eutectic, and a second temperature T2, corresponding to maximum congruent sublimation temperature; maintaining the solid semiconductor material at this temperature T under a neutral gas flow for a time period sufficient to eliminate the precipitates; cooling the solid semiconductor material under the inert gas flow from temperature T to ambient temperature, at a rate such that, during the cooling, the solid semiconductor material merges with its congruent sublimation line; and recovering a precipitate-free solid semiconductor material.

Abstract: A method for forming a plurality of thin films from a microtechnological donar substrate with a view to recycling of the donor substrate, the method including exposing a face of the donor substrate by fracturing the donor substrate along a layer weakened by implantation and placing the exposed face in a bath and applying ultrasound with a frequency of between 10 kHz and 80 kHz under conditions suitable for causing cavitation along the exposed face. In the case of a silicon donor substrate, the bath is exposed to an ultrasound power per unit volume of greater than 5 W/I, at a power of greater than 10 W with a duration of greater than 1 minute, and at a temperature between 1° C. and 100° C.

Abstract: A system and method are disclosed that separate control functionality from the management functionality for conducting electronic transactions. The control functions are performed by a third party resulting in a low overhead since significant overhead is incurred in response to an anomalous event, thus facilitating high throughput electronic transactions when anomalous events are infrequent. Further, the third party does not need to have access to confidential information since it only controls by observing, validating and certifying the observed communications in a specified manner to prevent confidential information from leaving the context of the transaction. Management of the transactions based on consideration of substantive information is provided by the participants.
