    Abstract: A styrene derivative carrying N-acethylchito-oligosaccharide chains, a polystyrene derivative carrying N-acetylchito-oligosaccharide chains on the side chains as well as a method for preparing these compounds are herein disclosed. The method for preparing the styrene derivative comprises reacting N-acetylchito-oligosaccharide lactone with vinylbenzylamine or a derivative thereof while the method for preparing the polystyrene derivative comprises polymerizing the styrene derivative. These derivatives can be employed as biomedical materials, in particular as materials for cell culture.

    Abstract: Chlorinated ethylene-.alpha.-olefin copolymer rubber of the present invention is characterized in that the content of chlorine bonded to primary carbon atom is 0.6 % by weight or more and the content of chlorine bonded to tertiary carbon atom is 1.6 % by weight or less. This chlorinated ethylene-.alpha.-olefin copolymer rubber has a high vulcanization speed and excels in heat resistance. Additionally, this thermoplastic elastomer composition consisting of this vulcanizate and crystalline polyolefin resin particularly excels in moldability and processibility.

    Abstract: An olefin is polymerized or copolymerized under the presence of an olefin-polymerizing catalyst prepared from (A) a transition-metal compound or (A') a transition-metal compound loaded on a fine-particle carrier, said transition metal being selected from group IVB in the periodic table; (B) an aluminoxane; and (C) an organoaluminum compound represented by the general formula [I] or [II]:R.sup.1.sub.m Al(OR.sup.2).sub.3-m [I]R.sup.3.sub.n Al(OSiR.sup.4.sub.3).sub.3-n [II]wherein R.sup.1, R.sup.2, and R.sup.3 are selected from hydrocarbon radicals, R.sup.4 is selected from the group consisting of hydrocarbon, alkoxy, and aryloxy radicals, and m and n are positive numbers of 0<m<3 and 0<n<3. This catalyst has a significantly high polymerization activity, and the thus produced olefin polymer or copolymer has a narrow composition distribution, a high bulk density, and uniform grain size with little powdery product.

    Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for polymerizing olefins.In the process of the present invention, olefins are polymerized using a catalyst composed of a compound of a transition metal (e.g. zirconium) of Group IVB of the periodic table, an aluminoxane produced from trimethylaluminum, and an aluminoxane wherein at least one hydrocarbon group other than n-alkyl groups is bonded to an aluminum atom. The present process can polymerize olefins with excellent polymerization activity and can produce an olefin polymer having a relatively large molecular weight even when the use amount of the aluminoxane produced from trimethylaluminum (which is expensive) is small.

    Abstract: A method for molding a polypropylene or a propylene copolymer having a syndiotactic structure which comprises the steps of melting, molding, if desired, quenching and then stretching a propylene homopolymer or a copolymer of propylene and a small amount of ethylene or another .alpha.-olefin which has a substantially syndiotactic structure, or a mixture of the same and a small amount of a polypropylene having a substantially isotactic structure. The molded and stretched article can be heated at a temperature of a molding temperature or more, while a load is applied to the article. Furthermore, the molded and stretched article, if desired, can be treated with a hydrocarbon vapor, while a load is applied to the article. The molded article obtained by the method of the present invention has a novel crystalline structure.
