    Abstract: Disclosed is a molding reinforced polyamide composition comprising [A] a polyamide selected from a polyamide composed of (a) aromatic dicarboxylic acid component units comprising 60 to 77 mole % of terephthalic acid component units and 23 to 40 mole % of aromatic dicarboxylic acid component units other than terephthalic acid component units and (b) 1,6-diaminohexane units and a polyamide composed of (a) aromatic dicarboxylic acid component units comprising 60 to 100 mole % of terephthalic acid component units and 0 to 40 mole % of aromatic dicarboxylic acid component units other than terephthalic acid component units and (b) units of a linear aliphatic alkylene-diamine component having 7 to 18 carbon atoms, and [B] a filler in an amount of 0.5 to 200 parts by weight per 100 parts by weight of said polyamide.This composition has excellent heat resistance characteristics, mechanical properties, chemical and physical properties and molding characteristics in combination.

    Abstract: In the production of a .beta.-phenylserine by reacting glycine with a benzaldehyde in the presence of an alkali and treating the product with an acid, a novel process which comprises carrying out the reaction in a mixed solvent composed of water and a hydrophobic organic solvent. The presence of a phase transfer catalyst or a surface-active agent in this reaction system promotes the reaction and the .beta.-phenylserine can be obtained in a high yield.

    Abstract: A water-absorbing laminate comprising a water-absorbing film and a non-woven fabric, in which the water-absorbing film is formed by film-forming a mixture of (A) a water-soluble polymer containing, as the monomer component, at least 40 mole % of an .alpha.,.beta.-unsaturated compound containing one or two carboxyl groups or groups from which a carboxyl group can be easily derived and in which 5% to 50% of the carboxyl groups and/or groups from which a carboxyl group can be easily derived are in the form of a salt, and (B) polyvinyl alcohol in a weight ratio of (A)/(B) of not less than 1/99 to less than 1/9. This water-absorbing can be produced by laminating the water-absorbing film on the non-woven fabric under pressure either in a hydrous and heat-softened state of the film or through an adhesive and, optionally, heat-treating the resultant laminate.

    Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for annealing a core blank of a transformer or the like so as to relieve the stress generated in the electrical steel sheet sections due to blanking.The present invention is an improvement over the conventional resistance or gas-heating method in the light of heating efficiency and time and is characterized by induction-heating a core blank at a power input range of from 0.5 to 3 kW/kg of the core blank. This range attains a small variation in the shape of a core blank due to induction-heating.

    Abstract: In a method of producing a hydrated iron oxide as a starting material for a magnetic powder by aging a suspension of a ferric hydroxide prepared by reacting a ferric salt with an aqueous solution of alkali, the aging temperature is controlled between 20.degree. and 100.degree. C. and pH is controlled between 1 and 6 for the first 5 to 240 minutes while nuclei of hydrated iron oxide crystals generate, and then the aqueous solution of alkali is added again to adjust the pH value to 10 to 13.5 to make the crystals grow. This production method is capable of producing an acicular hydrated iron oxide having a reduced particle-size distribution range and also capable of controlling the length of the crystals as desired.
