  • Patent number: 4050866
Abstract: An apparatus for melt-spinning a polymer such as a polyamide or polyester has a heating jacket provided with a cavity which accommodates a spinning assembly. Preferably, the spinning assembly is exchangeable in the jacket from above and includes a housing adapted to contain a molten polymer and a spinnerette plate near one end thereof. The opposite end of the housing is closed with a lid which extends partially within the housing and partially outside the housing. That portion of the lid which extends outside the housing has a peripheral surface which slopes radially outwardly from the wall of the housing in the direction moving longitudinally from the housing. In a cylindrical vessel the sloping portion of the lid is frusto-conically shaped. The jacket is provided with a portion of gradually increasing diameter to accommodate the lid.

  • Patent number: 4049061
Abstract: A cultivating implement or rotary harrow has two groups of soil working members mounted on upwardly extending shafts that extend transverse to the direction of operative travel. The groups of soil working members are adjustably linked to an elongated frame of the harrow and the front of the longer side of the frame has a coupling member for connection to the rear of a prime mover for soil working operation. One of the shorter sides has a second coupling member that can be coupled to the prime mover during transport. Pairs of ground wheels at the front and rear of the frame are employed to support the harrow both in operative and in transport positions. Each group of soil working members has a supporting rear roller and arms that extend from the front of the frame over the roller to support a tool bar to which seed drills, for instance, can be connected.

  • Patent number: 4049040
Abstract: An improved method of and apparatus for pressure casting metal are disclosed. The method is generally known in the art as "squeeze casting". The present method provides for casting articles under forging pressures in a die to predetermined dimensions regardless of varying amounts of excess of poured molten metal, by the inclusion of a retractable charge-quantity compensator positioned adjacent the casting cavity to form on the cast article an extension which may vary in volume from article to article. The extension is later removed. The charge-quantity compensator may be in the form of a piston in a cylinder with hydraulic fluid behind the piston connected to a hydraulic source. The piston, which may be normally biased toward the die cavity but yieldable away therefrom is fixed in position when the punch die has advanced to a predetermined position at which the quantity of casting material in the die cavity is appropriate for the article being formed. Full casting pressure is then applied.
