Abstract: The invention relates to a device for blowing off excessive coating material, especially fluid zinc or aluminium, in the coating of metal bands. The device comprises a blowing off jet impinged on compressed air, of which the jet bodies 3,4 are fixed at a base body 1. The jet lips 3,4 adjustable against each other form a jet slit 10 extending in transverse direction of the metal band. For optimizing an adaption of the slit thickness respectively the pressure of the blowing off medium along the band width it is provided to build the blowing off jet as a jet row, providing in transverse direction of the band at least two partial jets 2 to impinge seperately on a blowing off medium, especially compressed air, sealed against each other, of which the respective partial slits are adjacent forming a continuous jet slit (10).

Abstract: The straightening jaw comprises a cubical chuck with a plane face end. The face end has an intake element and an exit element of a straightening groove. Between them is an opening arranged perpendicular to the face end. A straightening insert made of hard metal is inserted into the opening loosely but insured against twisting. On the face end, the straightening insert has a of saddle-shaped straightening indentation that connects the intake and exit elements. Because of this structure, long service lives of the straightening jaw and shorter down times of the straightening device causing low production costs are achieved.
Abstract: To provide a process for coating substrate material in which coating material is ablated in an ablation region by a laser beam in a coating chamber containing a negative pressure, propagates in the form of a coating particle stream in the direction of the substrate material and is deposited on it in the form of a coating, with which substrate material can be coated in large quantities by laser ablation, it is proposed that the substrate material be flat material, that the flat material be passed continuously as a continuous strip through the coating chamber and coated under the negative pressure substantially maintained therein, and that the necessary coating material be fed to the coating chamber while the negative pressure is substantially maintained therein.
Abstract: A device for measuring the power of a laser beam includes an electrically actuable measuring wire (10) having a temperature-dependent electrical resistance which is subjected to a relative reciprocatory movement transversely over the beam cross-section. A compensation wire having a temperature-dependent electrical resistance is disposed parallel to and closely adjoining the measuring wire (10), with each of the two wires (10, 11) having a different degree of absorption of laser radiation. A current source (12) connected to each of the two wires (10, 11), supplies a steady current thereto. A measuring device (13) is connected to each of the two wires (10, 11) and a dividing circuit (31) with a connected display device (33) is coupled to each measuring device (13) for processing the measured values of the measuring devices (13).

Abstract: A cassette for a device for continuously casting liquid metal between two parallel rolls, the cassette includes a metal case which has a lateral wall and is open on a side of the case, and plate of refractory material which may be preheated before casting the liquid metal. The refractory plate is preshaped in such a manner so to define a free space between the periphery of the plate and the lateral wall of the case. The cassette is provided with an arrangement for fixing and gripping the plate and exerting an elastically yieldable opposing action allowing free expansion of the plate within the case.
Abstract: A brake ring/hub connection via clamping notches for rail vehicles is provided. When a clamping strip is pressed into a clamping notch, the smallest cross-sectional configuration of the hub at the clamping notch is greater than the cross-sectional configuration of the clamping arms in that region thereof that is exposed to the greatest stress, and the cross-sectional configuration of the hub beyond the clamping arms is at least somewhat smaller than the cross-sectional configuration of the hub in the vicinity of the base of the clamping notch.

Abstract: A system for inerting a casting vessel, such as a traversable ladle or torpedo vessel, used for transporting molten metal, the vessel being positioned below the molten metal outlet opening at a transfer station, and the vessel cavity being flushed with an inert gas both prior to the molten metal inletting and during the inflow of the molten metal in such a manner as to avoid contact between the molten metal surface and the vessel and the atomospheric oxygen. A blowpipe is arranged in the vicinity of the molten metal outlet opening but does not intersect the molten metal stream, is located outside the free space profile of the vessel at least during the approach and return of the vessel, and terminates a distance from the vessel inlet opening and produces at its terminal end an inert gas stream which enters the cavity of the vessel adjacent the molten metal stream at an acute angle.

Abstract: A truck body is disclosed for mounting on a standard truck frame. The body includes extruded attachment components which run the full length of the body. The attachment components have T-slots formed beneath their surfaces for permitting attachment of optional equipment to the truck body. The attachment components are designed to conform to the shape of the truck body in an aesthetically pleasing manner.
Abstract: The invention describes a new type of multi-functional water-dispersible crosslinking agents. These crosslinking agents are products consisting of oligomeric compounds containing carbodiimide functions and other reactive functional groups. Further the invention describes aqueous dispersions, emulsions or solutions with such crosslinking agents. Finally the invention comprises a process for the preparation of the crosslinking agent according to the invention.

Abstract: An improved apparatus (10) for thermally bonding indicia to fabric disclosed comprises relatively movable upper and lower platens (12,14) with a heat source in one of the platens for heating it. A lift lever (18) with an over-center locking assembly (20) is operated to urge the platens (12,14) together and a pressure adjustment assembly (40) is adjustable for varying the pressure therebetween. A pressure sensor (54) senses pressure between the platens (12,14) during closure. A temperature sensor (69) responds to the temperature of the heated platen (12) for controlling heat source (16) to regulate the platen (12) temperature. An optical switch (70) is responsive to platen (12,14) closure for initiating a timing sequence. A programmable controller (48) is programmable to monitor sets of temperature, pressure and platen closure combinations and a visual display (46) displays instructions and the time, temperature and pressure readings necessary for operating the apparatus (10) in the language of choice.
Abstract: The side dam comprises a layer in contact with the molten metal constituted by a refractory material of fibrous structure and composed mainly of alumina and silica, and a second layer which is provided behind the first layer and composed of compact refractory material. The fibrous layer ensures the thermal insulation and the compact layer acts as a safety plate. The invention permits the construction of side dams which are capable of both durably ensuring the sealing of the molten metal and preventing untimely solidifications of the metal upon contact with these side dams. The invention is preferably applied to the continuous casting between rolls of hard metals having a high melting temperature, such as iron and its alloys.

Abstract: It is proposed, in the case of at least one transport and discharge runner installed at a tapping orifice of the metallurgical furnace and a transfer station having a swivel or tilting runner in which the molten metal flows from the discharge runner by way of a distribution system into the outlet openings from which it flows into a preferably movable casting vessel, to cover the discharge runners conveying the molten metal from the tapping orifice of the metallurgical furnace with cover hoods, to screen off the transfer station in a substantially gastight manner, to sweep these interiors with inert gas and in addition to screen off the molten metal discharge stream from the outlet opening to the casting vessel by means of a pressurized inert gas covering which prevents air access and is substantally annular in cross-section. By these means, fume production is effectively avoided.

Abstract: A process and apparatus for forming curved vehicle door panels is disclosed. A jig is provided having a curved surface. A place of sheet metal is placed face down on the curved surface of the jig. The sheet metal is then compressed edgewise to cause it to bow in conformity with the curved surface. Then, a curved frame member is placed on the concave side of the bowed sheet metal. The frame is then fastened to the bowed sheets such that the frame holds the sheet in its bowed condition to form a curved vehicle door panel. Finally, the finished panel is removed from the jig.
