  • Patent number: 5751126
Abstract: An electric drive for the vehicle or traveling mechanism of a lifting appliance contains a control which controls the switching on of the mechanical brake and the switching of the motor current off and on again. In this case, there is provision, in the event of a changeover from a high traveling speed to slow maneuvering speed, for the mechanical brake to remain released until the maneuvering speed is approached. During this phase, the vehicle is decelerated solely by the internal friction and the rolling friction on the rail, in order to avoid inducing any or any additional load pendulum oscillation.

  • Patent number: 5711825
Abstract: A process for the production of grain oriented magnetic steel sheets comprises through-heating slabs containing more than 0.005% C, 2.5 to 6.5% Si, 0.03 to 0.15% Mn, 0.010 to 0.050% S, 0.010 to 0.035% Al, 0.0045 to 0.0120% N, and 0.020 to 0.300% Cu, the balance being iron and residual impurities, to a temperature which is lower than the solubility temperature T.sub.1 of magnesium sulfide and higher than the solubility temperature T.sub.2 of copper sulfide, T.sub.1 and T.sub.2 being dependent on the silicon content. The through-heated slabs are then hot roughed, followed by hot finish rolling at an initial temperature of at least 960.degree. C. and a final rolling temperature of 880.degree. C. to 1,000.degree. C., to produce a hot rolled strip having a thickness in the range of 1.5 to 7 mm. During this last step, at least 60% of the total nitrogen content precipitates in the form of coarse AlN particles. Thereafter, the hot rolled strips are annealed at temperature of 880.degree. C. to 1,150.degree. C.

  • Patent number: 5638892
Abstract: A strip is continuously cast between rolls that includes a pair of rolls driven in rotation, two side dams urged against the ends of the rolls, and a jack for pressing the side dams against the rolls. The thrust force on the side dams is measured and the friction force exerted on the side dams by the rolls as a result of the rolls rotating is measured. From these measurements of thrust and friction forces, a coefficient representative of friction conditions between each of the surfaces of contact between the side dams and rolls is deduced and casting parameters are adjusted in response to the contact state between the surfaces.

  • Patent number: 5628718
Abstract: A method of operating a folder comprising a plurality of sequentially arranged folding units. At least one folding unit is provided with a sheet detector arranged upstream of a sheet abutment and at least one lateral guide. Apart from automatic and single stroke modes of operation, a further mode of operation for the set-up or "make-ready" of the folder is provided, in which (1) the drive of the folder is run at a reduced speed within a predetermined speed range, for example, 50-60 m/min.; (2) upon detecting a supplied sheet, the sheet detector supplies a switch "off" signal to the drive so that the sheet movement is retarded short of the guide of the respective folder unit and comes to rest; (3) the sheet is then moved at a further-reduced speed toward the sheet abutment of the respective folder unit; and (4) in a phase between a stationary state of the sheet until the sheet arrives at the sheet abutment, the guide is set to suit the size and folding shape requirements of the supplied sheet.

  • Patent number: 5613546
Abstract: A casting roll for continuous casting of metals. The roll comprising a core (2) and a sleeve (3), coaxially arranged one with respect to the other. The sleeve is axially coupled to the core by a inward projection (33) on the sleeve which abuts a shoulder (24) on the projection. The projection and the shoulder are located in a plane (P) substantially median with respect to the roll. The sleeve is radially centered on the core by flanges (5) and (6) which are elastically coupled together. The flanges and sleeve have relieved surfaces (37) which allow the sleeve to expand axially without bowing. The invention is particularly well suited for continuous casting thin metallic strips, especially steel strips, between two of these casting rolls.

  • Patent number: 5584335
Abstract: A side dam assembly for a continuous casting apparatus for continuously casting thin steel strips between casting rolls. The side dam assembly has a side dam for bearing directly against the rolls of the casting apparatus for preventing leakage of molten metal therebetween. The side dam is attached by a pair of belts to an insulating refractory plate which is carried by a cooled panel. To allow axial motion, one of the belts is not rigidly affixed to either the insulating refractory plate or the side dam. The cooled panel is carried by a thrust plate and is urged toward the rolls by biasing elements which preferably comprise a plurality of pistons urged outwardly from the thrust plate by springs. Preferably, the biasing elements are constructed and arranged so that they are distributed over a zone of shape corresponding to that of the side dam and are capable of exerting on the side dam thrust forces independently of one another.
