  • Publication number: 20230404047
Abstract: A trap accessory for attachment to a marine trap that facilitates release of by-catch. A buoyant recovery buoy is operably attached to a trap frame secured to the marine trap. Components for operably attaching the recovery buoy to the trap frame include a latch and attachment components, of which at least one of these components is a Degradable Metal (DM). The DM maintains the integrity of the trap and trap accessory for a pre-determined time, typically 1 year or less. When one or more of the DM components are sufficiently degraded, the recovery buoy is released to open a slot through which animals can escape. A buoy line connected to the trap frame maintains connection between the marine trap and the recovery buoy, which assists in recovery of the marine trap.

  • Publication number: 20230405559
Abstract: One or more embodiments relate to stable catalysts prepared through the encapsulation of platinum particles inside an alumina framework. These catalysts do not sinter at 800° C. in the presence of oxygen and steam, conditions in which conventional catalysts sinter to large extents, while showing similar reaction rates. Extending this approach to Pd/Pt bimetallic catalysts leads to maintained small particle size at temperatures as high as 1,100° C. in air and steam. This strategy can be broadly applied to other metal and metal oxides for applications where sintering is a major cause of materials deactivation.

  • Publication number: 20230408803
Abstract: A spacer for an immersion objective lens can be fabricated by pressing a set of sidewalls onto a mirror to form a liquid-tight cavity, filling the liquid-tight cavity with a first quantity of a UV-curable polymer, and curing the first quantity of the UV-curable polymer into a first solid mass that will be adhered to the mirror. The upper surface of the first solid mass is then positioned near the objective lens, with a second quantity of a UV curable polymer occupying the space between the first solid mass and the objective lens. Next, the position of the first solid mass is adjusted until it reaches a final position with respect to the objective lens. This adjustment may be assisted by checking the collimation of light reflected back through the mirror. The second quantity of the UV curable polymer is then cured.
