Abstract: An apparatus including direct-current (DC)-alternating-current (AC) inverter circuitry, first and second circuits, and output circuitry. The DC-AC inverter circuitry inverts a DC input signal corresponding to an input voltage to an AC signal. The first circuit and second circuits respectively include inductive isolation circuits driven in response to power from the at least one AC signal, and rectifier circuits that responds to the inductive isolation circuits by outputting first and second rectified signals, where at least one of the first and second rectifier circuits characterized as being limited by a voltage breakdown rating. The output circuitry provides a DC output voltage signal and to cascade a plurality of signals, including the first and second rectified signals, to provide a voltage source that is dependent on the first and second rectified signals and greater than voltage breakdown rating.

Abstract: An ambulatory respiratory assist device utilizes a cuirass worn on the chest and/or abdomen and supported by a hip belt so that it does not place a load on the patient's shoulders. The belt also supports a ventilator that includes a pump and its power supply, valving, controls and auxiliary equipment. The device is optionally integrated with auxiliary features such as chest wall vibration, which can be achieved by utilizing cuirass pressure modulation, with shoulder or upper arm supports for simulating the “tripod position”, with positive pressure ventilation apparatus, or with patient monitoring. Shoulder or upper arm supports can extend directly from the belt to the shoulders or upper arms, utilized independently of the cuirass, and optionally integrated with one or more of the above-mentioned auxiliary features.

Abstract: Disclosed are components and methods for preparing tagatose from galactose via isomerization reactions using engineered components. The engineered components include microbial cells and methods for preparing microbial cells that have been engineered to catalyze isomerization of galactose to tagatose, in which the microbial cells express cytoplasmically an exogenous L-arabinose isomerase enzyme. The disclosed microbial cells may further be modified for use in methods for preparing tagatose from galactose via isomerization reactions where the microbial cells are treated with reagents that permeabilize the cells. The disclosed methods enable isomerization reactions of galactose to tagatose at relatively high rates, high conversions, and elevated temperatures.

Abstract: Instrument free “plasticware” is provided that enables multi-step molecular reactions in a diagnostics context. A hollow plunger that is movable within a surrounding tube defines a reaction chamber inside the plunger. By moving the plunger to different positions in the tube, a sample can be collected, then the sample can be washed, and finally the reaction chamber can be sealed to perform diagnostic reactions on the sample. The juxtaposition of large sample collection/washing volume with small reaction volume allows one to conduct a wide range of diagnostic assays including a LAMP (Loop mediated isothermal amplification) based saliva test in a small, portable self-contained device. Applications include Molecular diagnostics for health applications (including COVID19 test), Environmental Monitoring, Disease surveillance, and Veterinary health.
