  • Patent number: 8745655
Abstract: Video content that is streamed to portable devices may be interrupted based on an emergency alert system (EAS) broadcast. In one implementation, first video content may be streamed over an Internet Protocol (IP) network to a portable device and an indication of a location of the portable device may be determined. Whether the location of the portable device is in a geographic region covered by an EAS broadcast may also be determined. When the portable device is determined to be in the geographic region covered by the EAS broadcast, a notification may be transmitted to the portable device, where the notification instructs the portable device to interrupt the first video content with video content corresponding to the EAS broadcast. The video content corresponding to the EAS broadcast may be streamed to the portable device.

  • Publication number: 20140146682
Abstract: Quality of service may be achieved in a network using time-bases queues that are associated with different maximum latency periods. A device may receive a request to allocate resources for a packet flow, the resources being allocated at a number of network devices. The device may select, in response to the request, a set of queues that includes a queue selected at each of the network devices, the selected queue, at each of the network devices, being associated with a maximum latency period. The device may transmit one or more messages, to the network devices, indicating that the selected set of queues are to be used for buffering of the packet flow during packet scheduling.

Abstract: A server may be configured to: receive a network selection query, associated with a user device. The network selection query may include information relating to a geographic location of the user device. The server may also select, based on information included in the network selection query, a virtual network element that services the geographic location of the user device and functions as a physical network element of an evolved packet core (EPC) network or an internet protocol (IP) multimedia subsystem (IMS) network. The server may also enable use of the selected virtual network element by the user device; receive a data packet destined for the selected virtual network element; provide the data packet to the selected virtual network element; and prevent the data packet from being sent to a non-selected virtual network element.

  • Publication number: 20140149871
Abstract: A device receives, from a user, a selection of a geographic region associated with a service provider network. The device generates a map of the geographic region, where the map includes notations of residential and business addresses, service provider network information, and addresses that purportedly are not accessible to the service provider network that potentially are actually accessible to the service provider network. The device presents the map to the user and receives, from the user, an indication that certain of the address that purportedly are not accessible to the service provider network have been determined to actually be accessible to the service provider network, or have been determined to not be accessible to the service provider network. The device revises the service provider network information based on the validation of the one or more addresses.

  • Publication number: 20140149129
Abstract: A system receives healthcare information, and utilizes a language model to create, based on the healthcare information, a flow of procedures as a conditional probability distribution. The system predicts most likely procedures based on the flow of procedures, estimates a standard of care based on the conditional probability distribution, and calculates a probability of a sequence of procedures based on the flow of procedures. The system determines inconsistencies in the healthcare information based on the most likely next procedures, the standard of care, and the probability of the sequence of procedures. The system generates parameters for a healthcare fraud detection system based on the inconsistencies, and provides the parameters to the healthcare fraud detection system.

  • Patent number: 8737218
Abstract: An approach is provided for auto-bandwidth adjusting bandwidth allocations for traffic-engineered tunnels used to carry traffic along a network. Traffic over the tunnel is sampled at a first interval period and at a second interval period, where the second interval period is shorter than the first interval period. A determination is made as to whether the sampled traffic taken using the second interval period is greater than the bandwidth allocation, and the bandwidth allocation is adjusted upward based upon a determination that the sampled traffic taken using the second interval period is greater than the bandwidth allocation. Also, a determination can be made as to whether the sampled traffic taken using the first interval period is less than the bandwidth allocation, and the bandwidth allocation can be adjusted downward based upon a determination that the sampled traffic taken using the first interval period is less than the bandwidth allocation.

  • Patent number: 8737691
Abstract: A set of user content items, such as a set of photographs or audio or video recordings, is used to identify recommended locations. Each item of user content in the set includes a geographical identifier and a time-stamp indicative of the location and time of origin of the item. The items of user content are placed in time-order, and a route is determined that links, in time-order, the locations identified by the geographical identifiers. A recommended location is then identified, from a database of recommended locations, that is located near the determined route but is not geographically coincident with the locations of any of the items of user content. Information for a map containing the route and an illustration of the identified location are sent to a terminal device for presentation to a user.
