Abstract: The present invention relates to the manipulation of differential gloss as may be inherent in halftoned images by utilization of tags. By selectively applying halftones with anisotropic structure characteristics, which are significantly different in orientation while remaining identical in density, as directed by tag settings, a gloss image may be superimposed within an image without the need for special toners or paper. Conventional copier systems will not typically be able to copy such a superimposed gloss image.
Abstract: A system, method and structures for dissipating heat away from a thermal fluid ejector modules through a thermally-conductive carriage molded from a polymer to the ambient air surrounding the structure upon which the thermally-conductive fluid ejector carriage translates. The heat is transferred via conduction and convection from the thermally-conductive fluid ejector carriage across a thin volume of air trapped between a thermally-conductive carriage rod guide, enclosed on each end by thermally-conductive carriage rod guide bearings, and the thermal contact of the thermally-conductive carriage rod guide bearings with the surface of at least one thermally-conductive carriage guide rod which the thermally-conductive fluid ejector carriage translates.

Abstract: At a printing unit which structures a printing apparatus, a portion of a transport path, which portion includes a rear portion of an upper guide path portion of a printing guide path, a sub-scanning guide path, a paper ejection buffer and a front portion of a branching guide path, is assembled to an upper face side of a sliding panel together with a printing section and a separation and ejection roller which are assembled to the upper face side of the sliding panel. The sliding panel is attached to a casing of the printing unit with a pair of guide rails interposed therebetween at a front end portion and a rear end portion. By sliding of this sliding panel, the portion of the transport path can be slid along a direction substantially intersecting a direction in which the transport path extends.

Abstract: An electronic circuit is utilized to correct scan non-linearity of a raster output scanner. The circuit modulates a clock frequency to match a scan linearity error profile. Because it is a separate circuit, the exiting closed-loop clock generator does not need to be modified. The correction circuit synchronizes itself with the clock signal using a counter/subtractor phase detector, which ensures that the phase and frequency of the internal clock matches the phase and frequency of the master.
Abstract: Systems and methods for indexing and searching the inner structure of a string over a language having a vocabulary and a grammar using bit vectors. The index preserves the inner gramatical structure of the string while allowing for a fast search. A single search provides immediate access to every level of a document, without having to re-search a single string to determine which sub-parts of that string match the search string. When a string is indexed, the index maintains a compositional representation and the grammatical relationship between the elements of the vocabulary according to the language. The string is then indexed on different levels by disregarding some of the grammatical relationships of component levels.
Abstract: A charge transport layer composition for a photoreceptor includes at least a binder and a charge transport material of about 100% to about 40% by weight of a total of the charge transport layer N,N-dimethylphenyl)-4-biphenylamine and about 0% to about 60% N,N?-dephenyl-N,N?-bis(3-methylphenyl)-(1,1?-biphenyl)-4,4?-diamine, and wherein the total charge transport material in the composition is 48% or less of the total solids of the composition. The charge transport layer forms a layer of a photoreceptor, which also includes an optional anti-curl layer, a substrate, an optional hole blocking layer, an optional adhesive layer, a charge generating layer, and optionally one or more overcoat or protective layers.

Abstract: An electrophoretic display includes a transparent polymeric film including at least one cavity including a first particle species and a second particle species. Application of an electrical field causes the first particle species and the second particle species to separate from one another, and align on opposite sides of the cavity. Subsequent electric field applications cause migration of the first and second particle species, affecting a color state of the display. The electrophoretic display may be fabricated from multiple display cells arranged on a substrate.

Abstract: This invention describes methods and systems for tasking nodes in a distributed ad hoc network. A node is selected to participate in a data gathering or a routing task based on its potential contribution to information gain and the cost associated with performing the task such as communication bandwidth usage. This invention describes methods and systems for implementing various selection strategies at each node, using local knowledge about the network. For resource-limited sensor networks, the information-driven data gathering and routing strategies significantly improve the scalability and quality of sensing systems, while minimizing resource cost.

Abstract: When ejectors (nozzles) are viewed in order in a sub-scanning direction, the ejectors are arranged so that positions of the ejectors in a main scanning direction alternate in an offsetting manner. When formed dots are viewed along the sub-scanning direction, sizes of the dots are changed at random. Accordingly, density unevenness is decreased, the ejectors can be arranged in high density, and an image can be recorded at high speed. That is, the invention provides a droplet ejecting head in which density unevenness which tends to be generated in a head having a matrix-like nozzle arrangement can be decreased without decreasing recording speed and thus high-speed recording is made compatible with high-quality recording. The invention also provides a droplet ejecting apparatus which is provided with the droplet ejecting head.
Abstract: By using information stored in a storage part provided in the image forming apparatus main body or the results of detection of an image density sensor or the like, it is judged whether or not a replaceable unit such as a toner cartridge has been replaced. Furthermore, from information stored in the storage part provided in the image forming apparatus main body, it is detected whether a replaceable unit such as a toner cartridge is genuine or other than genuine units. From these detection results, information on the amount used for developer of the replaced toner cartridge, stored in the storage part, is initialized.
