  • Patent number: 5508884
Abstract: System for dissipating heat energy generated by an electronic component and sealed enclosure used in a system of this kind. The system for dissipating heat of the invention is of the type comprising a sealed metal enclosure (21) the interior volume of which contains a fluid (22), said component (11) being fixed to the outside wall of said enclosure (21) and connected to a heat dissipator (12) by said enclosure (21) and is characterized in that the phase change temperature of the fluid (22) at atmospheric pressure is less than a given maximum ambient temperature and in that said enclosure (21) also contains a volume of gas (23) different from the fluid (22) so that variation in the ambient temperature causes a variation in the pressure inside the enclosure (21) which modifies the phase change temperature of the fluid (22).

  • Patent number: 5508883
Abstract: An air mixer cool plate (100) for dissipating heat from a plurality of heat-generating elements (22) positioned in an air stream (26). The plate is made from a material having a thermal conductivity preferably ranging from 1 to 500 watts/meter-K and is designed to be positioned to contact the top surfaces of the heat-generating elements. The plate includes a plurality of apertures (106, 108) and a plurality of upstanding air deflectors (110). The apertures and deflectors are arranged so that when the plate is supported in predetermined relation to the heat-generating elements and the air stream, the plate will cause the air stream to be deflected so as to flow in intimate contact with the elements, thereby carrying heat away from the elements by convection and conduction.

  • Patent number: 5506752
Abstract: An apparatus for cooling an integrated circuit chip that comprises an air movement device, a plurality of mounting clips, and a plurality of fasteners. The mounting clips are for clipping the air movement device onto the integrated circuit chip. The fasteners fix the mounting clips to the air movement device. In addition, these fasteners have heads that provide spacing between the air movement device and the integrated circuit chip when the air movement device is clipped onto the integrated circuit chip by the mounting clips. This allows air to be moved over the integrated circuit chip by the air movement device in order to cool the integrated circuit chip.

  • Patent number: 5504651
Abstract: An electronic equipment has a cooling structure in which air discharged from heat sinks can be recovered without any leakage and compact blow ducts and discharge ducts are disposed in a narrow space. A supply opening and a discharge opening for cooling air are independently formed in a heat sink. A plurality of supply branched ducts and discharge branched ducts are combined in a comb-like shape along the axis of the ducts. Ejection openings for cooling air are formed on each of the supply branched ducts in positions corresponding to each of the heat sinks. Such ejection openings are closely connected to the supply openings for cooling air of the heat sinks. On the other hand, recovery openings for cooling air are formed on each of the refrigerant discharge ducts in a position corresponding to each of the heat sinks. Such recovery openings are closely connected to the discharge openings for gas refrigerant of the heat sinks.

  • Patent number: 5504650
Abstract: A heat sink mounted on a heat producing element for cooling the heat producing element attached on the printed board of the electronic apparatus, having a heat sink body made of a good heat conductive material and a fan assembly installed inside the heat sink body. The heat sink body is efficiently air-cooled by a cooling air generated by the rotation of the fan assembly. The cooling air forcibly cools a base and a fixing wall of the base adjacent to the heat producing element and plate-like radiating fins or a pin-like radiating fins are protruded on the heat sink body to radiate the heat effectively. The position of the fan assembly is at the center of the heat sink body or is at the offset position from the center of the heat sink body. The heat sink of the present invention can be installed in a portable electronic apparatus such as a portable computer.

  • Patent number: 5497288
Abstract: An apparatus that provides a cooling system in which electronic components are serially configured in the air flow path and tilted down to form a "V" formation when viewed from the side. An air moving device draws air from an inlet, serially past first and second components and exhausts air through an outlet. This formation increases the inlet air opening, increases the area to turn the air in between the components, and increases the size of the plenum between the rear components and the air moving device, all without increasing the size of the electronic device. The larger area reduces the resistance of the air flow cooling path by reducing the number of turns and velocity changes of the air flow, which allows the air moving device to be smaller, use less power, and generate less noise.

  • Patent number: 5493473
Abstract: Cooling air compulsorily introduced from an air inflow hole 18 into a duct 10 by means of a fan 5 is compressed within the duct 10 and enters a duct 13 from an air outflow hole 11 through an air inflow hole 12 to be injected into a package 23 from an air outflow hole 14 through an air inflow hole 15. Subsequently, it flows along both surfaces of a printed circuit board 21, during which it exchanges heat with the heat evolving portion of the printed circuit board 21 to flow out from an air outflow hole 16 into the container body 1. From the interior of a container body 1, air flows out through an air outflow hole 17 to the exterior. The printed circuit board 21 can be cooled efficiently with a small air flow rate and an excellent performance of electromagnetic shielding can be achieved.
