  • Patent number: 6714412
Abstract: A scalable coolant conditioning unit (SCCU) is designed to accommodate removable modular pumping units (MPU's). The MPU's may comprise one or a plurality of pump/pump motor combinations. The MPU's are connected to coolant supply and discharge mechanisms by an insertion facilitation mechanism comprising an automatic coupling assembly and an isolation valve mechanism and are placed into and removed from the SCCU body with the aid of a seating mechanism. MPU's are added to an operating SCCU as needed to support increased heat loads of electronics frames. A plate heat exchanger is physically integrated within the expansion tank, reducing volumetric requirements for the SCCU and is sized to accommodate the maximum heat load.

  • Patent number: 6705089
Abstract: A cooling system is provided for cooling a heat generating component of an electronic device. The cooling system includes at least two cooling subsystems for a staged reduction of the temperature of a cooling fluid exposed to heat generated by the heat generated component. A first stage cooling subsystem reduces the temperature of the cooling fluid to ambient temperature or above, while a second stage cooling subsystem reduces the temperature of the cooling fluid exiting the first stage cooling subsystem to below ambient temperature. The first stage cooling subsystem is passive while the second stage cooling subsystem is active and can include one or more thermoelectric modules.

  • Publication number: 20040012914
Abstract: An electronic module, substrate assembly, and fabrication method, the assembly providing thermal conduction between an electronic device to be cooled and an aqueous coolant, while maintaining physical separation between the coolant and electronic device. The assembly includes a substrate, one or more electronic devices to be cooled, and a multilayer, impermeable barrier. The multilayer barrier includes a first layer, providing mechanical support for a second layer. The second, thinner layer provides an impermeable barrier, and a high effective thermal conductivity path between an electronic device and a cooling fluid in contact with an upper surface of the second barrier layer. Mechanical stresses are minimized by appropriate material selection for the first layer, and a thin second layer.

  • Publication number: 20040004957
Abstract: Data communication apparatus including a port and a control entity. The control entity is operative to establish a connection with a remote entity over a first path and negotiate with the remote entity using in-band signaling over the first path establishment of a second path allowing the exchange of data between the data communication apparatus and the remote entity. The invention presents advantages from the standpoint of ease of implementation and bandwidth and resource savings. The use of an in-band messaging protocol to negotiate a establishment of the second path can be implemented generally in a straight forward manner. At the same time, the ability to transfer at least part of the connection to the second path avoids the drawbacks that would arise if that part of the connection were constrained to the first path. This feature allows the operator to take advantage of benefits provided by the second path but not available to the first path.

  • Patent number: 6672669
Abstract: A chair having a swingable chair back with a top pivot includes a frame having laterally spaced first and second uprights. A back having upper and lower ends is attached to the frame. Also attached to the frame adjacent the lower end of the back is a seat. A pivot assembly couples the first and second uprights to the back and permits pivoting of the back about a substantially horizontal pivot axis. The pivot axis projects laterally of the back and is positioned in the vicinity of the upper end of the back. A biasing device cooperates with the back and normally urges the lower portion of the back forwardly away from a rearward position.

  • Publication number: 20030236909
Abstract: Apparatus communicating with a mobile and a remote base station. The mobile is assumed to have a coding unit capable of operating in at least one mode selected from a set, each mode in the set being associated with a coding requirement. The set is characterized in that it has at least one mode that is associated with a greater coding requirement than a “designated” mode. Also, the apparatus comprises a control entity suitable to establish a tandem-free transfer of data received from the mobile to the remote base station. The control entity is operative to send control information to the mobile to cause the coding unit therein to operate in the designated mode prior to establishment of the tandem-free transfer. By forcing the mobile to operate in the designated mode, it is guaranteed that the tandem-free transfer can be achieved.

  • Publication number: 20030204603
Abstract: A network and method for servicing simultaneously pending boot image download requests in a multi-client, networked environment. A boot image server on the network is configured to satisfy boot image sessions initiated by one or more client systems on the network. The image server is configured to prioritize requests from different clients to minimize or reduce the network's average download time, which represents the amount of time required to boot a theoretical average client. In one embodiment, the image server is configured to minimize the average download time by prioritizing client requests according to the amount of time required to complete a each client's download such that requests from clients with short remaining download times are given higher priority and, conversely, request from clients with long remaining download times are given lower priority.

  • Patent number: 6633909
Abstract: A method for a guaranteeing a network manager discovers SNMP agents on a communications network. Each SNMP agent transmits a trap to the network manager. The trap contains the network manager's IP address and the SNMP agent's identifying information, including its IP address. When the trap is received at the network manager, it is parsed for the agent identifying information, which is compared against a list of previously identified/discovered agents. If the agent identifying information is not found, i.e., if the agent is a newly discovered agent, the network manager adds the agent to the list of discovered agents. The agent is then registered/stored in the discovered agents file. When the trap does not include sufficient identifying information, the network manager sends a query to the agent to extract additional identifying information. The system manager is thus able to discover all connected agents without broadcasting a query message.
