  • Patent number: 6104146
Abstract: The present invention provides a CCFL driving circuit having a parallel-arranged transformer system and a feedback loop positioned to sense the current in one of the lamps in the system. Each CCFL in the system is driven by the secondary side an individual transformer. Based on the current sensed in the feedback loop, a controller supplies the appropriate driving voltage to the primary side of the transformers, which in turn powers each CCFL. Since the primary sides of the transformers are arranged in parallel, and since each CCFL is connected at a common node, it is ensured that each transformer receives identical voltage, and the current in each CCFL loop is balanced.

  • Patent number: 6102710
Abstract: An interposer substrate for mounting an integrated circuit chip to a substrate, and method of making the same, are shown. The interposer substrate comprises power supply paths and controlled impedance signal paths that are substantially isolated from each other. Power supply is routed through rigid segments and signals are routed through a thin film flexible connector that runs from the upper surface of the interposer substrate to the lower surface. Bypass capacitance is incorporated into the interposer substrate and connected to the power supply so that it is positioned very close to the integrated circuit chip. The interposer may be fabricated by forming a multilayered thin film structure including the signal paths over a rigid substrate having vias formed therein, removing the central portion of the substrate leaving the two end segments, and folding and joining the end segments such that the vias are connected.

  • Patent number: 6099662
Abstract: An improved method for removing residual slurry particles and metallic residues from the surface of a semiconductor substrate after chemical-mechanical polishing has been developed. The cleaning method involves sequential spray cleaning solutions of NH.sub.4 OH and H.sub.2 O, NH.sub.4 OH, H.sub.2 O.sub.2 and H.sub.2 O, HF and H.sub.2 O, and HCl, H.sub.2 O.sub.2 and H.sub.2 O. The cleaning sequence is: 1. A pre-soak in a spray solution of NH.sub.4 OH and H.sub.2 O; 2. Spray cleaning in a solution of NH.sub.4 OH, H.sub.2 O.sub.2 and H.sub.2 O; 3. Spray cleaning in a dilute solution of HF and H.sub.2 O; 4. Spray rinsing in DI-water. It is important that slurry particulates first be removed by NH.sub.4 OH, H.sub.2 O.sub.2 and H.sub.2 O, followed by spray cleaning in a dilute solution of HF and H.sub.2 O to remove metallic residues.

  • Patent number: 6098206
Abstract: A pair of swimming goggles includes two lenses, two padding members, a frame, a bridge, and a strap. Each lens is made of transparent rigid material and includes an engaging section. Each padding member is made of soft, flexible, and extensible material and includes a hollow receiving section sized to be smaller than the lens such that the engaging section of an associated lens is fitted into the padding member by stretching the padding member. Each padding member further includes a padding section to be in close contact with user's face. The frame and the bridge are integrally formed by material that is slightly flexible and less extensible than the padding member. The frame includes two hollow receiving portions each having an inner diameter smaller than an outer diameter of the associated lens such that the engaging section of the associated lens that has been engaged with an associated padding member is fitted into an associated hollow receiving portion by stretching the frame.

  • Patent number: 6095092
Abstract: An animal control device, and method for confining an animal within a boundary identified by a current carrying conductor. The animal is equipped with a control device, as an antenna coil, which is coupled to a magnetic flux emanating from the conductor. When the animal approaches the boundary conductor, the change in voltage across the antenna coil is compared with a reference change in voltage. As the distance closes from a charging animal, the rate of change in voltage from the antenna coil increases correspondingly, providing a reliable detection of the animal's imminent crossing of the boundary. Conventional animal correction circuitry is provided which, in response to a detected voltage change, issues a corrective stimulus to the animal to stop the animal from crossing the boundary.

  • Patent number: 6096635
Abstract: A method for creating via holes in a chip or a plurality of chips of a wafer is disclosed. The method is performed by using a pre-patterned transparent mask on the back of the chip or chips, and bombarding the chip(s) through the positioning holes on the transparent mask that correspond to the pre-formed pattern, with accelerated particles. According to this method, via holes can be created from the back of the chip(s) without interfering with the existing IC structure of the chip(s). The present method is highly efficient because a number of via holes can be formed simultaneously by using a large pre-pattered mask to cover the entire wafer. In addition, the present method is cost-effective because no precision apparatus is required.

  • Patent number: 6094580
Abstract: Provided herein is a computer-implemented method for generating an optimized cellular-network cell-site plan for an area. A plurality of cellular-traffic demand nodes distributed across the area is provided. Each cellular-traffic demand node of the plurality of cellular-traffic demand nodes has an associated weighting characteristics set. The plurality of nodes are consolidated into a plurality of centroids. Each centroid represents a number of nodes that come within a traffic threshold. A potential cell site is positioned on each of the centroids. Each potential cell site has an associated base-transmitter-station parameter characteristics set. The demand node coverage of each potential cell site is determined with respect to a signal strength of the potential cell site. From the plurality of potential cell sites a minimized cell-site subset is selected while maintaining sufficient cellular service coverage of the plurality of demand nodes.
