  • Patent number: 5975485
Abstract: An integrated micro thermister type flow control module in which, when a fluid enters the integrated module past a fluid channel and a suspended microstructure into a thermally-driven microvalve zone, the latter utilizes heat actuation to drive a silicon microbridge with mesa to open a linear proportional flow microvalve. A thermister type flow sensing unit is disposed in the fluid channel to sense the flow amount. The sensing unit is synchronously made with the microvalve and the silicon microbridge structure in an integration process so as to reduce manufacturing steps and minimize the size of the module.

  • Patent number: 5978893
Abstract: A method and a system are provided for managing fixed size memory blocks in a graphic imaging system. A system memory includes at least one queue containing a linked list of fixed size memory blocks and a page pool of variable size memory blocks. A system memory manager allocates memory blocks from the system memory in response to requests. Upon a request for a memory block of a particular fixed size, the system memory manager allocates a memory block of the fixed size from a queue containing memory blocks of the fixed size if the queue has memory blocks available. If the queue does not have memory blocks available, the system memory manager creates an extension to the queue containing memory blocks of the fixed size. The extension is created from a page pool. The extension is linked to the queue, and a memory block of the fixed size is then allocated from the queue.

  • Patent number: 5972193
Abstract: The present invention uses a glass to act as a substrate. A stencil layer is patterned on the top surface of the substrate. Successively, a copper layer is deposited over the substrate. Next step is to remove the stencil layer. A negative photoresist layer is formed on the copper layer. A negative photoresist layer is processed using a backside exposure of the resist through the transparent substrate. The backside exposure technique uses the self-aligning, conductive copper layer as a mask. A plurality of trenches are then created in the photoresist layer and a second copper layer is electroplated in the trenches to form the planar coils.

  • Patent number: 5973280
Abstract: A circuit breaker handle is provided with a curved bearing surface at its pivot point. The handle bearing surface has a substantially constant radius and is connected to the body of the handle with a necked down handle extension. The handle extension has a width that is less than the width of the curved bearing surface at the point of connection between the bearing surface and the necked down region. The handle pivot mates with a corresponding bearing surface on a notch in the side plate that it pivots within. The arc of the curved bearing surface in the side plate is greater than that of the corresponding bearing surface on the handle and captures the handle pivot within the notch in the sideplate, so the handle cannot lift off the bearing surface on the notch as it is moved.

  • Patent number: 5972763
Abstract: A method of fabricating an air-gap spacer of a metal-oxide-semiconductor device includes the following steps. First, a substrate having a gate oxide layer and a polysilicon layer successively formed is provided. The polysilicon layer and the gate oxide layer are patterned to form a gate electrode region. A silicon nitride layer and an oxide layer are successively formed on the surface of the substrate and the surface of the gate electrode region. The oxide layer and the silicon nitride layer are anisotropically etched to form a cross-sectional L-shaped silicon nitride layer and a first spacer at the sidewall of the gate electrode region. After the first spacer is removed, an ion implantation is performed to form an extended lightly doped region below the L-shaped silicon nitride layer in the substrate and a lightly doped region in the substrate surrounding the extended lightly doped region.

  • Patent number: 5968846
Abstract: A etchant recipe including a mixed gas of one of a CH.sub.x F.sub.y group and CO gas is used to etch a silicon nitride layer by plasma etching so as to form a thin polymer layer to protect a silicon layer under the silicon nitride layer from over-etching. Then a soft etching is performed to remove the thin polymer. The etchant recipe is, for example, used in forming a contact opening on a gate of a MOS transistor, on which a silicon nitride layer is formed.

  • Patent number: 5969473
Abstract: A two-part field emission structure, and a method for making such a structure, is described. A substrate is provided having a first conductive layer thereon, a first insulating layer over the first conductive layer, a second conductive layer over the first insulating layer, and an opening formed in the first insulating and second conductive layers. A sacrificial layer is formed over the second conductive layer. A bottom portion of the field emitter structure is formed in the opening, by vertical deposition of a conductive material, whereby a third conductive layer, having a collimated channel over the bottom portion, is formed over the sacrificial layer. The formation of the field emitter structure is completed by vertical deposition of a tip material on to the top of the bottom portion of the field emitter structure, whereby a top conductive layer is formed over the third conductive layer. Lastly, the sacrificial layer, the third conductive layer, and the top conductive layer are removed.

  • Patent number: 5966767
Abstract: A pipe cleaning device has a handle, a center rod, a center rod sealing plate, and a scraper assembly. The center rod has a central hollow space having one end connected to the handle and the scraper assembly mounted on the other end. The center rod sealing plate is a three-plate structure for sealing off the pipe opening. The center rod sealing plate has a central hole for the insertion of the center rod. The three-plate structure of the center rod sealing plate serves to increase the ease of disassembling and maintenance. The scraper assembly includes an upper scraper and a lower scraper, wherein the lower scraper has additional scraping knives on its blades to facilitate the scraping of blocking material inside the pipe. Moreover, the scrapers do not block off gas flow inside the pipe completely, so the pump can still pump exhaust gases out even when the scraper assembly is in use.
