  • Patent number: 9658396
Abstract: Described herein are an apparatus, system, and method for providing a vertical optical coupler (VOC) for planar photonics circuits such as photonics circuits fabricated on silicon-on-insulator (SOI) wafers. In one embodiment, the VOC comprises a waveguide made from a material having refractive index in a range of 1.45 to 3.45, the waveguide comprising: a first end configured to reflect light nearly vertical by total internal reflection between the waveguide and another medium, a second end to receive the light for reflection, and a third end to output the reflected light. The VOC couples with a Si waveguide having a first region including: a first end to receive light; and an inverted tapered end in the direction of light propagation to output the received light, wherein the inverted tapered end of the Si waveguide is positioned inside the waveguide.

  • Patent number: 9659412
Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for displaying information on a heads up display (HUD). A background image is captured with a camera. A plurality of regions of the background image are analyzed to determine a region-wise image attribute for each of the plurality of regions. A symbology having a symbology attribute is generated and overlaid on an overlay region of the background image to generate a heads up display image. The overlay region is one of the plurality of regions of the background image. The symbology attribute is adjusted based on the region-wise image attribute of the overlay region to generate an adjusted heads up display image. The adjusted heads up display image is displayed on the HUD.

  • Publication number: 20170142345
Abstract: An automated electronic video surveillance system enables a high-resolution mega-pixel camera to capture high quality, detailed, magnified images at multiple locations, simultaneously with an overview of the whole scene. A preferred embodiment requiring no moving parts provides full 360-degree continuous viewing with up to 5x all-digital zoom capability. The system performs continuous surveillance and active resolution allocation in the form of a feedback control subsystem that dynamically allocates resources so that important details within a scene receive appropriate scrutiny, while uninteresting areas are imaged at a lower resolution.

  • Patent number: 9651132
Abstract: A cast aluminum differential housing for a motor vehicle powertrain having cast iron inserts. The housing is cast of light weight aluminum which weighs approximately one-third that of iron which has formerly been used to fabricate such housings. At locations of significant loads and wear, such as the mountings for the stub shaft associated with the two idler bevel gears, iron inserts are cast into the housing. The housing thus weighs significantly less than a comparable iron differential housing but since the two significant wear and load bearing regions include cast iron inserts, the aluminum differential housing of the present invention has the ruggedness, durability and service life of the much heavier iron housing.

  • Patent number: 9645886
Abstract: Error-correcting circuit includes: component generating a first output from first and second inputs; error detector generating an error flag indicative of whether or not an error is detected in the first output, based on the first output, and the first and second inputs; correction generator generating a correcting output after a first time period beginning with a timing event, based on the first output, and the first and second inputs; and output generator generating an output after a second time period beginning with the timing event. If the error flag indicates a detected error then the second time period may be longer than the first time period, otherwise it may be not longer, and the error-correcting circuit output may include a combination of the first output and the correcting output whereby the detected error is corrected, otherwise the error-correcting circuit output may correspond directly to the first output.
