  • Patent number: 9590176
Abstract: Electrolyte gating with ionic liquids is a powerful tool for inducing conducting phases in correlated insulators. An archetypal correlated material is VO2 which is insulating only at temperatures below a characteristic phase transition temperature. We show that electrolyte gating of epitaxial thin films of VO2 suppresses the metal-to-insulator transition and stabilizes the metallic phase to temperatures below 5 K even after the ionic liquid is completely removed. We provide compelling evidence that, rather than electrostatically induced carriers, electrolyte gating of VO2 leads to the electric field induced creation of oxygen vacancies, and the consequent migration of oxygen from the oxide film into the ionic liquid.

  • Patent number: 9588853
Abstract: In embodiments of the invention LPARs can be run on any server in a group of servers. Upon detecting a server has failed, each LPAR then running on the failed server is identified, and servers in the group that are available for restarting the identified LPARs are determined. Identified LPARs are assigned to an available server for restarting, wherein each LPAR has a value associated with a specified LPAR priority criterion, and a given LPAR is assigned in accordance with its value. Responsive to assigning the given LPAR to an available server, a specified storage resource is connected for use by the server in association with the given LPAR, wherein the specified storage resource was previously connected for use by the failed server in association with the given LPAR.

  • Patent number: 9587603
Abstract: A compact fuel pressure regulator (10) includes a housing (12) with an interior (13) communicating and inlet opening (16) and an outlet opening (20). The housing defines a valve seat surface (26) in the interior. A cover (22) is provided at an end of the housing and is disposed in the interior. The cover includes a through-hole (24) therein that communicates the outlet opening with the interior. A valve structure (28) is movable within the interior to control fuel flow between the inlet opening and outlet opening. A spring (30) is engaged between the valve structure and the cover so that when pressure of fuel at the inlet opening is greater than a force of the spring, the fuel pushes the valve structure against the bias of the spring and away from the valve seat surface so that fuel flows around a periphery of the valve structure to the outlet opening.

Abstract: A method for authenticating a user having a username and password and authenticating access to the user's information. A client computer generates, and sends to a server computer, input data that includes a key (h1) to a dataset of salts accessible to the server computer, a proxy (h2) for the password, a proxy (h4) for the username, and in one embodiment, a different proxy (h8) for the username. The input data does not include the username in plaintext and does not include the password in plaintext. Using the input data and not utilizing the username in plaintext and not utilizing the password in plaintext, the server computer authenticates both the user and access to the user's information, after which the server computer sends, to the client computer, notification that the server computer has authenticated both the user and access to the user's information.

  • Publication number: 20170060707
Abstract: Restarting virtual machines is provided. Each server in a plurality of servers is monitored within a client virtual machine host environment via a network. In response to determining that a server failed in the plurality of servers within the client virtual machine host environment, a list of virtual machines that were executing in the failed server is retrieved. A set of virtual machine dependency groups for virtual machines in the list of virtual machines is retrieved based on properties corresponding to each respective virtual machine in the list of virtual machines. The set of virtual machine dependency groups is restarted in parallel on a failover server of an alternate virtual machine host environment via the network.

  • Patent number: 9584411
Abstract: A power save unit of a first network device determines a sleep duration associated with a sleep mode of a low-power network device based on an exchange of information between the first network device and the low-power network device of a communication network. The power save unit determines whether the low-power network device is in the sleep mode. In response to determining that the low-power network device is in the sleep mode, the power save unit redirects network packets destined to the low-power network device to the first network device. The first network device stores the redirected network packets and notifies the low-power network device that the first network device has stored the redirected network packets.

  • Patent number: 9584309
Abstract: A circuit and method for implementing an adaptive bit-leveling function in an integrated circuit interface is disclosed. During a calibration operation, a pre-loaded data bit pattern is continuously sent from a sending device and is continuously read from an external bus by a receiving device. A programmable delay line both advances and delays each individual data bit relative to a sampling point in time, and delay counts relative to a reference point in time are recorded for different sampled data bit values, enabling a delay to be determined that best samples a data bit at its midpoint. During the advancing and delaying of a data bit, jitter on the data bit signal may cause an ambiguity in the determination of the midpoint, and solutions are disclosed for detecting jitter and for resolving a midpoint for sampling a data bit even in the presence of the jitter.
