  • Patent number: 8482670
Abstract: Gradient analysis may be utilized to determine frame and field repeat patterns in input video data. Those frame and field repeat patterns may then be analyzed to match them with characteristic patterns associated with telecine 3:2 and 2:2 pulldown video data, for example. In addition, a progressive detector may use combing analysis to determine whether or not a particular field is progressive or interlaced data. Then, this information, together with a field flag which indicates whether field or frame analysis is appropriate, may be utilized to distinguish telecine 2:2 or 3:2 pulldowns and interlaced and progressive data in some embodiments.

  • Patent number: 8475735
Abstract: A disposable immunodiagnostic test system tests for marker proteins in a sample and includes intimately contacting passage, protein, and absorbent layers. The passage layer is non-porous and has an aperture therethrough. The protein layer is porous, has combinable proteins immobilized thereon, and enables passage of the sample therethrough. The protein layer has an active surface aligned with the passage layer aperture. The sample is introduced onto the protein layer through the passage layer aperture. In positive results, the marker proteins are bound to the combinable proteins and immobilized relative to the protein layer. In negative results, the sample passes through the protein layer, and is absorbed by the absorbent layer. A housing may also be provided, as may a wash structure. The system may be constructed of combustible materials that produce non-toxic by-products upon incineration, preferably enabling ecologically responsible disposal after diagnostic use of the system.

  • Patent number: 8477247
Abstract: In some embodiments, color and contrast enhancement video processing may be done in one shot instead of adjusting one of color and contrast enhancement, then the other, and then going back to the first one to readjust because of the second adjustment. In some embodiments, global lightness adjustment, local contrast enhancement, and saturation enhancement may be done at the same time and in parallel. Lightness adjustment improves visibility of details for generally dark or generally light images without changing intended lighting conditions in the original shot, and is used to enhance the range of color/saturation enhancement. Local contrast enhancement done in parallel improves visual definition of objects and textures and thus local contrast and perceived sharpness.

  • Publication number: 20130164799
Abstract: An energy efficient process for the preparation of marine microalgae Chlorella fatty acid methyl ester (CME) from hydrolysate of deoiled cake of Jatropha (JOCH) and crude glycerol co-product stream (GL7 and GL8) along with seawater diluted with tap water (1:2). A small part of the crude glycerol layer in case of JME is processed to recover glycerol for glycerol washing and the otherwise problematic still bottom is utilized for microbial synthesis of PHAs and the rest is utilized for Microalgal conversion of JME byproducts into CME. The remaining part of the methanol-depleted glycerol layer is utilized, along with hydrolysate of the Jatropha deoiled cake (JOCH), for single-stage Microalgal production of lipids by a marine Microalgal isolate (Chlorella sp.) without the need for any other nutrients. Waste streams from the microalgal processes can be discharged directly into agricultural fields as biofertilizer or recycled back in the mass cultivation.

  • Publication number: 20130164652
Abstract: Novel proton exchange membrane fuel cells and direct methanol fuel cells with nanostructured components are configured with higher precious metal utilization rate at the electrodes, higher power density, and lower cost. To form a catalyst, platinum or platinum-ruthenium nanoparticles are deposited onto carbon-based materials, for example, single-walled, dual-walled, multi-walled and cup-stacked carbon nanotubes. The deposition process includes an ethylene glycol reduction method. Aligned arrays of these carbon nanomaterials are prepared by filtering the nanomaterials with ethanol. A membrane electrode assembly is formed by sandwiching the catalyst between a proton exchange membrane and a diffusion layer that form a first electrode. The second electrode may be formed using a conventional catalyst. The several layers of the MEA are hot pressed to form an integrated unit.

  • Patent number: 8472428
Abstract: Methods and Systems are provided for managing one or more communications lines associated with a user of a communications network. A service center may receive from a user line management information regarding one or more of the user's communications lines. This line management information may include a request from the user to handle all calls to the communications line in a particular manner (e.g., forward all calls to a different number). This line management information may also include information regarding scheduling the handling of calls to the communications line (e.g., scheduling call forwarding) or a request to handle calls differently based on information identifying the origination of the call (e.g., caller-ID). The service center may then forward instructions to the communications network such that the components (e.g., SSP or SCP) of the communications network implement the user's modifications.

  • Patent number: 8470608
Abstract: The sensitivity of visually read lateral flow immunoassay tests is enhanced by adding a small quantity of fluorescing dye or fluorescing latex bead conjugates to the initial conjugate material. When the visible spectrum test line is visibly present, the test result is observed and recorded. However, in the case where the result is indeterminate, a light of an appropriate spectrum, such as a UV, visible, or infrared spectrum, is cast on the test line to excite and fluoresce the fluorescing latex beads which are bound in the test line in true positive tests to enhance the visible color at the test line.
