  • Patent number: 7294526
Abstract: An optical sensor is provided, comprising (a) a silicon nanowire of finite length having an electrical contact pad at each end thereof; and (b) a plurality of self-assembled molecules on a surface of the silicon nanowire, the molecules serving to modulate electrical conductivity of the silicon nanowire by either a reversible change in dipole moment of the molecules or by a reversible molecule-assisted electron/energy transfer from the molecules onto the silicon nanowire. Further, a method of making the optical sensor is provided. The concept of molecular self-assembly is applied in attaching functional molecules onto silicon nanowire surfaces, and the requirement of molecule modification (hydroxy group in molecules) is minimal from the point view of synthetic difficulty and compatibility. Self-assembly will produce well-ordered ultra-thin films with strong chemical bonding on a surface that cannot be easily achieved by other conventional methods.

  • Patent number: 7291514
Abstract: Langmuir-Blodgett films are provided in which a molecule is chemically bonded with a bottom electrode substrate as part of a crossed wire device comprising two electrodes and a molecular layer therebetween. The molecule, which comprises a switchable moiety and a connecting moiety, is provided with a photolabile capping group attached to the connecting moiety. The photolabile capping group temporarily caps the reactive connecting group of the molecule. The capped molecules are processed to form a LB film on the water-air interface of water. The films are then exposed to UV light. The photolabile capping group decomposes to give back the connecting group, which remains in the water. As the uncapped LB films are transferred to a bottom electrode substrate, the surface of the electrode reacts with the reactive connecting group of the molecule to form a chemically bonded LB layer on the substrate, thereby providing improved LB films.

  • Patent number: 7256435
Abstract: A mold with a protruding pattern is provided that is pressed into a thin polymer film via an imprinting process. Controlled connections between nanowires and microwires and other lithographically-made elements of electronic circuitry are provided. An imprint stamp is configured to form arrays of approximately parallel nanowires which have (1) micro dimensions in the X direction, (2) nano dimensions and nano spacing in the Y direction, and three or more distinct heights in the Z direction. The stamp thus formed can be used to connect specific individual nanowires to specific microscopic regions of microscopic wires or pads. The protruding pattern in the mold creates recesses in the thin polymer film, so the polymer layer acquires the reverse of the pattern on the mold. After the mold is removed, the film is processed such that the polymer pattern can be transferred on a metal/semiconductor pattern on the substrate.

  • Patent number: 7211503
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention are directed to methods for fabricating microscale-to-nanoscale interfaces. In numerous embodiments of the present invention, hybrid microscale/nanoscale crossbar multiplexers/demultiplexers provide for selection and control of individual nanowires through a set of microscale signal lines. In order to overcome the difficulty of aligning nanowires with submicroscale and microscale signal lines, at least a portion of the interconnections between nanowires and sub-microscale or microscale signal lines are randomly generated by one of various connection-fabrication methods. Addresses for individual nanowires, or groups of nanowires, can be discovered by testing the microscale-to-nanoscale interfaces.

  • Publication number: 20070034599
Abstract: A nanoscale lithographic method in which a reusable conductive mask, having a pattern of conductive surfaces and insulating surfaces, is positioned upon a substrate whose surface contains an electrically responsive resist layer over a buried conductive layer. When an electric field is applied between the conductive mask and buried conductive layer, the resist layer is altered in portions adjacent the conductive areas of the mask. Selective processing is performed on the surface of the substrate, after mask removal, to remove portions of the resist layer according to the pattern transferred from the mask. The substrate may be a target substrate, or the substrate may be utilized for a lithographic masking step of another substrate. In one aspect of the invention the electrodes to which the charge is applied are divided, such as into a plurality of rows and columns wherein any desired pattern may be created without the need to fabricate specific masks.

  • Publication number: 20060280428
Abstract: The invention relates to a video encoding and decoding technical field of the signal processing, especially relates to a method for video clip assisted by clip identifier. The method defines a clip identifier on the video encoding and decoding rule as an identifier used specially for video stream clip. If the encoded video bit stream is clipped, then said clip identifier is inserted to the bit stream or used to replace the original identifier which functions as a start flag. The clip of the video bit stream can be operated conveniently by the invention. The features of the invention are: the bits, which mark whether the clipped video bit stream may be decoded and displayed incorrectly or not, are not required to appear in the unclipped bit stream; if it clips at a certain point of the bit stream, then said identifier will appear at this point to indicate that a problem in which the picture can not be decoded normally due to the predictive reference data being clipped may appear.
