Abstract: Embodiments of the invention relate to erasing data recorded on a magnetic disk with increased certainty by using an external magnetic field. One embodiment is directed to a method for erasing data recorded on a magnetic disk, which is housed in a magnetic disk drive, by using an external erasure magnetic field generated by an external erasure magnetic field generator. The method comprises the steps of: moving a first magnetic disk drive within an external erasure magnetic field in a moving state appropriate for the type of the first magnetic disk drive, and erasing data recorded on a magnetic disk in the first magnetic disk drive; and moving a second magnetic disk drive, which differs in type from the first magnetic disk drive, within an external erasure magnetic field in a moving state that differs from the moving state of the first magnetic disk drive, and erasing data recorded on a magnetic disk in the second magnetic disk drive.

Abstract: A disk drive assembly including a disk drive, a bracket for containing the disk drive, and a damper for absorbing an impact transmitted to the disk drive. The damper may have a shape of a ring to encircle a corner of the disk drive and may be formed of an elastic material to buffer an impact transmitted between the disk drive and the bracket. Particularly, since the width and/or diameter of the damper may be formed with a minimized size, the damper is capable of providing sufficient buffering properties. In addition, the space occupied by the damper may further be minimized. Thus, since the space occupied by the disk drive assembly may be reduced, it is possible to favorably apply the assembly to a portable electronic device.

Abstract: The invention described here is a circuit protection device based on the principle of a plasma limiter. A plasma limiter uses an electrode such as a very sharp tungsten needle in an easily ionized gas to perform field enhancement using the interference voltage to initiate avalanche breakdown of the plasma. The gas becomes conductive, causing the interference voltage to short-circuit to ground thereby protecting the transceiver Integrated Circuit (IC). This device protects IC's that can be damaged by voltages greater than about 15 volts when damaging voltages have occurred on the wire(s) for a brief time. The damaging voltage creates an electromagnetic field that is enhanced by the sharp electrode thereby causing the easily ionized gas to become plasma and conduct between the wire and grounded electrode. This conduction prevents the damaging voltage on the wire from becoming so great that IC's become damaged. A protection module consists of devices to protect one or many signals in a single module.

It includes a cover plate having an embedded element, and a containing frame having a groove bonding with the embedded element. The replacing-type upper cover plate structure, through a preferred module bonding mode, makes the upper and the lower shell tight-fit to bond for achieving the efficacy of protecting the interior and exterior elements of the cover plate. In the meantime, since the replacing mode of the cover plate is simple, convenient, and fast, thereby, the invention can improve the users' working efficiency to meet the humanized requirement.

Abstract: An external docking station for a removable data storage unit, allowing it to communicate with a computer system via a standard interface connection, such as a USB connector. In one implementation, the present invention provides a docking station that, in a locked or closed mode, locks a removable data storage unit into place via a latch. In one implementation, the docking station includes a motorized, geared lever assembly that simultaneously unlocks and ejects the removable data storage unit from the docking station. In one implementation, a spring biases the latch to maintain the docking station in an open position for receipt of a removable data storage unit. In one implementation, after the user presses the eject button, the present invention delays ejection of the removable data storage unit until the hard disk drive is no longer in use, thereby preventing possible damage to the drive media and/or read-write heads.
