Publication number: 20080170751Abstract: In a digital video surveillance system, a number of processing stages are employed to identify foreground regions representing moving objects in a video sequence. An object tracking stage 5 is also provided in order to identify a correspondence between candidate objects in a current frame and those that have already been identified in one or more previous frames. In this way, it is possible to calculate the path taken by the or each foreground object and to record this path information in a trajectory database. In order to improve tracking performance, the object tracking stage 5 employs a state transitional object management scheme which determines whether or not a particular object is to be tracked. As part of the object management scheme, spurious objects, which are identified on the basis of their motion characteristics, are deleted from the system. This ensures that valuable processing resources are not wasted tracking unwanted artefacts which may represent, for example, noise or random motion.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 6, 2006Publication date: July 17, 2008Inventors: Bangjun Lei, Li-Qun Xu

Publication number: 20080170780Abstract: Building of a model profile for a target is disclosed. An embodiment of the method includes importing an image of a known object and superimposing, on this image, either by hand or automatically, an estimated profile. The estimated profile is defined mathematically and adjusted segment by segment in order to match the image such that the adjusted estimated profile may be stored alongside a diffraction spectrum associated with the image. Alternatively or additionally, a user may trace (or free-draw) the profile of a known image and subsequently map a shape-definer of a mathematical function such as a polynomial equation, a spline or a vector onto the estimated profile in order to obtain a profile and one or more variables of that profile that may be used to reconstruct the profile of an unknown object from its diffraction pattern.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 16, 2007Publication date: July 17, 2008Applicant: ASML NETHERLANDS B.V.Inventors: Hugo Augustinus Joseph Cramer, Antoine Gaston Marie Kiers, Durk Oeds Van Der Ploeg, Goce Naumoski, Roland Mark Van Weel

Publication number: 20080170783Abstract: Provided are an image processing method and apparatus capable of improving the result of segmenting an image and discriminatively determining the extent of processing the image. In the method, the extent of segmentation of the image is calculated; the result of segmentation is compensated for and the extent of processing the image is determined, based on the calculated extent of segmentation; and each region of the image is discriminatively processed according to the determined extent of processing. Accordingly, it is possible to improve the precision of the result of segmentation and continuously control the extent of discriminative processing around a complex image object.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 30, 2007Publication date: July 17, 2008Applicant: SAMSUNG ELECTRONICS CO., LTD.Inventors: Yong-seok Yoo, Young-su Moon, Jun-mo Kim, Yoon-kyung Kim

Publication number: 20080170785Abstract: Converting text may be provided. A user selectable element may be used to select a text. The selected text may include a first text within an electronic document and a second text within an image. The second text within the image may be converted to character information by receiving the image. The image may have image character information and an image type. An aspect of the received image may be adjusted based on the image type. Optical character recognition may be performed on the adjusted image to extract character information. The character information may include characters and corresponding location information for the characters. The extracted character information may be evaluated to improve the recognition quality of the extracted character information as compared to the image character information.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 15, 2007Publication date: July 17, 2008Applicant: Microsoft CorporationInventors: Alex J. Publication number: 20080170786Abstract: A technique that can contribute to a reduction in an operation burden in managing a processing result of semantic determination processing applied to objects included in an image is provided. An object included in an image of image data is extracted. A semantic of the object in a layout of the image data is determined. When it is determined that plural objects have an identical semantic, a display unit is caused to notify information concerning the plural objects, which are determined as having the semantic, in association with information concerning the semantic.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 28, 2007Publication date: July 17, 2008Applicants: KABUSHIKI KAISHA TOSHIBA, TOSHIBA TEC KABUSHIKI KAISHAInventors: Hajime Tomizawa, Akihiko Fujiwara

Publication number: 20080170788Abstract: A system of materials facilitates teaching Chinese characters to a child in progressive stages, whether or not the teacher is fluent in Chinese. Each stage associates a multi-colored object with a correspondingly multi-colored Chinese character that represents the object. For a child from birth to two years, a first stage material animates the object and morphs the object into the corresponding Chinese character. For a child two to four years, a second stage material to be read to the child by the teacher displays the object adjacent to the character, and material provides interactive means for the child to associate the object with the character. For a child four to seven years, a third stage story book displays text containing a sentence made of multiple characters and a scene corresponding to the meaning of the sentence, and for a child seven to nine years, a fourth stage group book presents multiple Chinese characters that share a common group element, whether meaning or sound.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 16, 2008Publication date: July 17, 2008Inventor: Xiaohui Guo
