    Abstract: An inkless fingerprint compound includes a solvent, a color former, such as a transistion metal salt, compatible with the solvent and a developer such as hydroxiquinoline and derivatives, the developer capable of reacting with the color former to form a colorant product, preferably black in color. A sufficient amount of a chelating agent, such as a carboxylic acid, is added to the solution to prevent the color former and developer from reacting while in solution to form the colorant product while permitting such reaction when the solution is applied to the fingerprint area of the person to be fingerprinted and deposited onto a paper substrate.

    Abstract: A resin composition comprises a thermoplastic resin, a non-terpene-series higher fatty acid or a derivative thereof and a black pigment. As the higher fatty acid or derivative thereof, use can be made of, for example, a saturated higher fatty acid having about 12 to 30 carbon atoms or a metal salt thereof. As the thermoplastic resin, use can be made of, for example, an acrylic resin A and a styrenic resin B. As the black dye or pigment, use can be made of, for example, carbon black. The resin composition may contain a dye or pigment such as titanium oxide. A clearly defined white marking is developed on the above resin composition by laser irradiation.

    Abstract: This invention relates to washable coloring compositions comprising specific low-molecular weight styrene-maleic anhydride copolymers. Such copolymers provide excellent washability enhancing performance in association with colorants and inks. Also, these specific compounds exhibit low viscosities which allow for greater amounts of washability enhancing copolymers to be added within colorant and ink formulations while simultaneously permitting the retention of sufficiently low overall viscosities of the target compositions. Such copolymers provide highly effective prevention of permanent colorations to certain substrates, such as skin, clothing, and the like, by the inks, dyes, and the like, within the target compositions. Marker styluses, writing implements, and other colorant transfer devices, containing these inventive compositions, are also encompassed within this invention.

    Abstract: A special ink consists of water and a humectant. A reusable paper includes a surface darkened by a water-insoluble material and a coating covering the darkened surface. The coating is made of a material that scatters light when dry and that becomes at least translucent when wetted by water. If the special ink is used to print on the reusable paper, the print will be visible for a limited period of time (e.g., half an hour). By the end of that time period, however, the special ink will have evaporated and the print will have disappeared completely from the reusable paper. The special ink may be applied to the reusable paper by an inkjet printer. An inkjet cartridge for such a printer includes a casing filled with the special ink.

    Abstract: A method of producing and using an artists chalk from dry copier toner is disclosed. The method includes the steps of providing a holder having a cavity for holding the toner, the cavity having a shape which, at least approximately, defines the shape of the finished chalk; and heating the toner at a temperature high enough and for a period long enough to sinter the toner into a chalk. Pressure is not applied to the toner particles. The temperature is in the range of, approximately, 150° F. to 220° F., and the time is in the range of, approximately, 3 to 60 minutes. The holder typically includes a paper tube which forms part of the finished chalk. Typically, the temperature is in the range of 180° F. to 185° F., and the time is in the range of 7 to 11 minutes. For harder chalks higher temperatures and shorter times are used. For softer chalks, lower temperatures and longer times are used.
