Abstract: A method comprising the steps of putting together a first piece including a wear layer, a pattern layer, and a base layer, arranged in a sandwich manner, such that the wear layer is on top of the pattern layer, the pattern layer is on top of the base layer, and the pattern layer is in between the wear layer and the base layer. The method may also include removing portions of the first piece to form a first floor plank, such as by removing a first substantially L-shaped portion of the wear layer, removing a second substantially L-shaped portion of the pattern layer, and removing a third substantially L-shaped portion of the base layer. Adhesive may be applied to locations on the first floor plank where substantially L-shaped portions have been removed to adhere the first floor plank to one or more substantially identical floor planks.

Abstract: A microstructured composite component is provided including structures for carrying out fluid processes. A device is provided for producing microstructured composite components. A method provided includes a first step during which a first film is arranged above a second film between first and second mold parts. The first and/or second mold parts have microstructured cavities to be filled. In a second step, the first and second mold parts are heated in at least one region in which they contact one of the films. An excess pressure is then produced between the first film and the second film to force the first and/or second films into the cavities. In a further step, the first and second mold parts are pressed together by a pressing force. Once the first mold part, the second mold part, the first film and the second film are cooled, they form a microstrutured composite component.

Abstract: A diffusion-tight joint (30) between ends of prefabricated spacers (10) that support a diffusion barrier (3) on the spacer outer face is achieved in that a tongue (9) is formed from the diffusion barrier (3) at an end of two spacers (10) that abut each other at a joint (30), the tongue protruding over the end. The tongue (9) is fixed to the outer face of the diffusion barrier (3) of the other end of the spacer (10) using an adhesive application (13) so that an overlapping of the diffusion barriers (3) of both ends is achieved. The formation of the joint can be formed in the corner region of prefabricated spacer frames (10) or in straight regions of spacers (10), thus wherever ends of spacers (10) that are prefabricated abut each other.

Abstract: A method for producing insulation tape. A strip of fabric is provided and a layer of insulation powder material is deposited onto the fabric. The fabric is folded over the insulation powder to form insulation tape that may be wrapped around pipes. The method of folding the fabric includes first bending the fabric into a trough shape that has a bottom portion and lateral upstanding flaps that terminate in lateral edges. The insulation powder may be deposited onto the bottom portion of the trough. The insulation powder is packed onto the bottom portion. Tape with adhesive on both sides is placed on one of the flaps so that when the flaps are folded in overlapping contact over the insulation powder the powder is enclosed and the flaps remain secured to each other. Stitching may be added to further secure the adhered flaps to each other and to the bottom portion.

Abstract: A method of forming a film of photonic crystal material. A first process is performed upon a material capable of having a photonic crystal structure, this process causing deformation of the material so as to form a film in which incident light received by the material is selectively reflected or transmitted to generate a first optical effect in the film. A second process is performed upon substantially all of the film which applies a shear stress to the film. This causes a change in the material structure so as to generate a second optical effect in the film, different from the first optical effect, in response to incident light. Security films, devices, articles and documents formed using the method are also discussed.
