Abstract: A vehicle wheel having a rim, or a rim of a vehicle wheel, is provided wherein the rim consists of a fiber-reinforced plastic material in the form of several layers of a fiber-reinforced semi-finished plastic product. The layers are shaped to form a finished component in a press while heat is supplied. The rim conventionally consists of a rim well, whose two sides are adjoined by a rim shoulder, which transitions into a rim flange. The rim well is formed by several layers of a base laminate, which extends to the rim flange, between which layers further layers are inserted in the area of the rim shoulder as well as of the rim flange. The further layers have an essentially tangential fiber alignment.

Abstract: A non-compliant fiber-reinforced medical balloon comprises a first fiber layer and a second fiber layer embedded in a continuous matrix of thermally-weldable polymer material defining a barrel wall, cone walls and neck walls. The fibers of the first fiber layer have a pattern of different lengths and are divisible into a first group and a second group based on length. Abstract: An electrically conductive surfacing material capable of providing sufficient conductivity for lightning strike protection (LSP) and/or electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding is disclosed. The conductive surfacing material is a multi-layered structure having a very thin conductive layer (e.g. solid metal foil) and a resin film formed on at least one surface of the conductive layer. The resin film is formed from a curable resin composition containing an epoxy novolac resin, a tri-functional or tetra-functional epoxy resin, ceramic microspheres, a latent amine-based curing agent, particulate inorganic fillers; and a toughening component. Optionally, the resin film further includes conductive additives to increase electrical conductivity of the surfacing material. The resin film exhibits high Tg as well as high resistance to paint stripper solutions. Furthermore, the conductive surfacing material is suitable for co-curing with fiber-reinforced resin composite substrates.

Abstract: Gasket stock is disclosed having a rectangular metal core that is readily bendable in one direction and a deformable rubberized jacket coextruded with and encasing the metal core. A method of fabricating the gasket stock through a coextrusion process is disclosed. A method also is disclosed for forming a press-in-place gasket with the method including obtaining bendable gasket stock, incrementally advancing the gasket stock to predetermined positions in a bender, and bending the gasket stock at the predetermined positions along its length to form a desired shape of the press-in-place gasket. The bender is controlled by a computer to form the shape of the gasket according to a CAD or other electronic file. Finally, a method of supplying press-in-place gaskets and accommodating design changes of such gaskets is disclosed.
Abstract: An irrigation and suction tip for laparoscopic surgery having an increased range of transport within a surgical cavity during laparoscopic surgery. The tip moves in a circumferential trajectory rather than linearly when a surgeon is irrigating and suctioning tissue. The tip is substantially resilient, withstanding great force and pressure during irrigation and suction procedures. The tip is bowed, having a pair of straight portions, a short distal portion and a long proximal portion joined by a bowed portion, the bowed portion allowing the distal portion to rotate, circumscribing a large area. The bow is limited so that the tip moves within a narrow wall of a cannula of a trocar.
Abstract: A multiple layer test card includes a waste channel to receive biological waste from an area of the test card utilized for testing biological samples. Multiple compartments in a waste layer of the card are separated from each other by a rib in the waste layer. A first compartment is positioned to receive biological waste from the waste channel. A pass is coupled between each adjacent set of compartments to pass biological waste and air between compartments. A vent in a last compartment provides an air exit from the card.

The tubular lateral pipe lining material has a flexible tubular resin-absorbing material impregnated with an uncured curable liquid resin. The tubular resin-absorbing material has one end that is folded back. A flange member, over which the folded-back end of the tubular resin-absorbing material is pressed, is made of a thermoplastic resin. An adhesive is applied over the flange member and the folded-back end of the tubular-absorbing material to bond the tubular resin-absorbing material to the flange member.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to a fluid-entangled laminate web and the process and apparatus for its formation as well as end uses for the fluid-entangled laminate web. The laminate web includes a support layer and a nonwoven projection web having a plurality of projections which are preferably hollow. As a result of the fluid-entangling process, entangling fluid is directed through the support layer and into the projection web which is situated on a forming surface. The force of the entangling fluid causes the two layers to be joined to one another and the fluid causes a portion of the fibers in the projection web to be forced into openings present in the forming surface thereby forming the hollow projections. The resultant laminate has a number of uses including, but not limited to, both wet and dry wiping materials, as well as incorporation into various portions of personal care absorbent articles and use in packaging especially food packaging where fluid control is an issue.

Abstract: A method of making a micro-louver structure includes coating a curable layer on a surface and imprinting a pattern of micro-channels in the curable layer. Abstract: A method of making bamboo-surfaced layered Venetian blind slats having a curved cross-section comprising (1) selecting bamboo slices each having a length slightly longer than the slats to be made, each having a width which equals the total width of the slats to be made; (2) selecting filling slices, each having a length and width identical to the bamboo slices; (3) selecting an adhesive to adhere a bamboo slice, a filling slice and a bamboo slice to form a layered slat piece; (4) placing the layered slat piece into a mold and compressing the layered slat piece to form a curved plate; (5) cutting along the length of the curved plate to obtain blank slats; (6) trimming the remains of the cutting surfaces and the two end surfaces of the blank slats to obtain the final product.
Abstract: A tooling system may include a cure tool and a biasing element. The cure tool may have a cure tool coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) and may be configured for curing a composite article formed of two or more components having dissimilar component CTEs. The biasing element may be fixedly attached to the cure tool and has a biasing element CTE that may be different than the cure tool CTE. The biasing element may be configured such that a combination of the cure tool CTE and the biasing element CTE causes a heat-up displacement in the cure tool when heated and the composite article is cured in a distorted shape. When the cured composite article is cooled, the cured composite article may substantially assume an as-designed shape.
Abstract: A dual layer material adapted to being applied to a vehicle underbody including a panel shaped body formed by a moldable polyethylene terephthalate (PET) layer joined with a polypropylene and glass composite layer in order to provide at least one of improved wear and abrasion resistance on an outer facing surface and acoustic noise attenuation on an inner vehicle facing surface. The dual layer material can also incorporate a bonding agent for adhering the layers together.

Abstract: A process for manufacturing a piece made of composite material that includes fibers that are immersed in a resin matrix, whereby the piece is placed in a first chamber with at least one flexible wall. A substantially straight length of unidirectional prepreg tape is placed on a carrier. Abstract: A panel assembly includes at least one reinforcing assembly made of a high strength material having a low yield to tensile strength ratio for energy absorption and reduced weight and profile. The panel assembly may be light-weight with a low profile to minimize protrusion into an opening or compartment enclosed by the panel. The panel assembly may be a floor panel assembly for a vehicle floor. The reinforcing assembly may traverse the panel such that the reinforcing assembly extends laterally, e.g., cross-vehicle, relative to the longitudinal axis of the vehicle body. A method of making the panel assembly may include forming the reinforcing assembly by joining a plurality of metal channel members in a nested arrangement with a plurality of welds to provide a structural assembly with good bending resistance loads imposed on the panel assembly including knee loads. The channel members may be made of a dual phase steel.

The core first portion, reinforcement layer first portion, and the curable layer first portion form a sandwich core zone. The reinforcement layer second portion and the curable layer second portion form a stiffened zone.

Abstract: A device for compacting and consolidating a textile preform comprising continuous fibers impregnated with thermoplastic polymer, and a method for obtaining a part using such a device. The device comprises a die, an induction heating device and a cooling device to cool the die. The die includes a form comprising a cavity that corresponds to the shape of the part, which form extends depth-wise between an entry plane and a bottom and is inserted into a frame. The induction heating device comprises two inductors extending in hollows of the form, each forming a winding in a plan, substantially parallel to the entry plane of the cavity, and located between the entry plane and the bottom of the form.
Abstract: A method of manufacturing curved composite structural elements can include fabricating a web ply in a flat curve over a removable substrate and laying up the ply on a curved web surface of a manufacturing tool. The method also can include laying up a diagonal ply with fibers oriented at +/?45° from the centerline of the web surface. The method further can include cutting a unidirectional composite tape into segments and laying up the tape segments to form a cross ply with a fiber orientation normal to the centerline of the web surface. One or both edges of the diagonal and cross plies may be folded over one or two sides of the manufacturing tool to form one or two flange surfaces. Additionally, a cap ply can be laid up on one or both flange surfaces using composite tape. The structural element layup can then be inspected and any excess composite material can be trimmed away.

Abstract: The described embodiment relates generally to the field of PCB fabrication. More specifically conductive spheres are used in a bonding sheet to enable inter-layer communication in a multi-layer printed circuit board (PCB). The conductive spheres in the bonding sheet can be used in place of or in conjunction with conventional electroplated vias. This allows the following advantages in multi-layer PCB fabrication: dielectric substrate layers made of varying types of material; PCBs with higher resilience to stress and shock; and PCBs that are more flexible.
Abstract: A display device includes a cover window including a curved portion, and a panel member laminated on the cover window. A method of manufacturing a display device includes mounting a cover window including a curved portion on a first jig including a curved portion, mounting a panel member on a second jig that conforms to a surface of the first jig, and laminating the cover window to the panel member by moving a first one of the first jig or the second jig to a first other one of the first jig or the second jig. An apparatus for manufacturing a display device includes a first jig including a mount surface that is partially curved to conform to a surface of a cover window, a second jig including a surface conforming to the mount surface and configured to contact a panel member, and a driving unit.

Abstract: A first substrate advances in the first direction and a second substrate advances in the second direction. The first substrate advances onto an outer circumferential surface of a drum in a stretched state. The first substrate may be cut into discrete lengths of elastic substrate. The drum may be configured with vacuum to hold the discrete length of elastic substrate in a stretched state. The second substrate may advance in the second direction by a conveyor. The conveyor includes a roller having a curved outer surface that deforms the second substrate so as to define a curve in the first direction. A tamper apparatus intermittently displaces a deformed portion of the second substrate into contact with a discrete length of elastic substrate on the outer circumferential surface of the drum. The discrete length of elastic substrate bonds with the second substrate and is removed from the drum.

Abstract: Methods for assembling diaper pants are disclosed herein. Each diaper pant may include a chassis and two side panels extending from the chassis. The side panels join a first waist region and a second waist region of the chassis. The methods may include the step of transferring the chassis to a rotating drum including a chassis folding member, a first panel folding member and a second panel folding member. The chassis may be folded about a lateral axis by the chassis folding member. The first and second folding members may also move toward each other and radially outward relative an outer surface of the rotating drum to position second end regions of the side panels in contact with a second waist region of the chassis. The second end regions of the side panels may be connected with the second waist region.
