Means Bringing Discrete Articles Into Assembled Relationship Patents (Class 156/556)
  • Patent number: 7033456
Abstract: A method for transferring a label portion from a label assembly onto an object wherein the label assembly is slid within a gap formed between at least one stripping member and an apparatus base surface. The label portion is positioned within an application area defined on the apparatus base surface with an adhesive side of the label portion exposed. The object is positioned on the apparatus base and with respect to the label portion. The object contacts the adhesive side of the label portion to apply the label portion to the object. The object is then removed from the apparatus, thereby transferring the label portion from the label assembly onto the object.

  • Patent number: 7001474
Abstract: A method for manufacturing an optical disc and a method for transporting a multi-layered optical disc are provided. When adhering the sheet and the disc substrate, after the adhesive is supplied to the outer side of the groove on the disc substrate, the sheet is loaded on the disc substrate. The adhesive is pressed to extend to the groove. At this timer, because the surplus adhesive is blocked when flowing into the groove, the surplus adhesive does not overflow easily toward the inner side of the groove. In addition, even if the adhesive overflows toward the inner side of the groove the adhesive is kept between the non-adhered portion of the sheet and the disc substrate, preventing the adhesive from moving to the disc surface. The non-adhered portion is cut by the cutting blade after the adhesive is completely cured, and then removed from the disc substrate.

Abstract: A device for affixing an adhesive label to a package comprises a piston and cylinder. The cylinder comprises two connections arranged on a wall of the cylinder spaced apart from each other, which are alternatively connected to either a positive or a negative pressure media source. The connections control the movement of the piston inside the cylinder so that the piston can move between a first dead center position and a second dead center position thereby causing a stamp to affix a label to the package. Shortly before reaching the first dead center, the piston blocks the first connection with its cylindrical wall, thereby stopping any increase in negative pressure between the piston and the first dead end position.

Featured is a conveyorized vacuum applicator (12) comprising two independent vacuum lamination chambers (18,20) in end-to-end relation. The first vacuum chamber operates at ambient temperature to draw off all of the air entrapped between the dry film resist and the surface of the printed circuit board at conditions that do not result in premature tacking of the dry film to the surface of the board.

Abstract: The tubular banding applicator converts a flat tubular material into a cut length expanded tubular sleeve and mounts the sleeve circumferentially on a container. A driver moves a selected length of flat tubular material from a supply station, around a spreader, and into a hollow former having a retaining gate at an exit thereof. A cutter severs the selected length of tubular material from the supply station and a flow of air directed at a side of the flat tubular length assists in opening the sleeve. A conveyor carries a series of containers along a path to position each container in turn in alignment with the opened tubular sleeve. The driver moves a second selected length of flat tubular material from the supply into the former, thereby ejecting the first open sleeve from the former onto a container aligned below. Abstract: The present invention is a method and apparatus conveying a roll of liner stock bearing removably adhered components such as labels. The liner is pulled through the feeder by a capstan drive having opposed fluted nip rollers driven by a stepper motor. Advance of the stepper motor is controlled by a programmable electronic controller. The linered labels are led through a tensioner and around an acute-angle peeler edge which separates the labels from the liner. The peeling action advances a label onto a platform comprising a bed of rollers having an inherently low-adherence surface. Preferably the rollers are undercut to form circumferential ridges and reduce the surface area in contact with the label adhesive and to minimize adherence thereto. When peeling of a label is completed, the label has been advanced onto the roller bed to precisely the proper location for acquisition by a pick-and-place machine.

Abstract: Method and apparatus for trimming plastic frames. Frames are joined to bring heated, soften ends into engagement, causing some softened material to be forced out from between the engaged portions, forming a flashing. This flashing is trimmed by a pair of trimming blades moved along associated guide members. The trimming assembly is mounted directly upon clamps holding the frame members, enabling performance of the trimming operation and eliminating the need for moving to a separate trimming/finishing station remote from the joining equipment. Excellent cutting action is assured by locking the guide blocks preparatory to a trimming operation. Various combinations and sequences of repetitive trimming operations may be selected whereby the cooperating blades are moved in selective cooperating directions to provide a trimming operation which avoids the need for further finishing. Trimming may also be performed simultaneously on multiple stacks of members being joined using the above technique.

Abstract: A tamp pad for a label applicator permits use of a single, reconfigurable pad for use with labels of different sizes. Such a pad is used in a label applicator of the type for separating labels from a continuous carrier strip and carrying the labels to and applying the labels to an object positioned at the applicator. The tamp pad includes a first surface configured to receive a label and secure the label thereto by a vacuum. The first surface has a plurality of vacuum openings arranged in at least two series of openings. Each of the openings in a series is aligned with one another and the openings of each series are spaced from the openings of each other series. A second surface has a vacuum channel and at least two depending sub-channels formed therein. The vacuum and sub-channels are configured for receipt of a blocking element to prevent communication of the vacuum through a selected one of the series of openings.

  • Patent number: 6843297
Abstract: An overcoat application apparatus is used to transfer an overcoat material from a donor support to a printed media. The overcoat application apparatus in this case includes a laminate cartridge, a donor supply reel, a donor guide bar, a heated fuser roller, a pressure roller, a peel bar, and a take-up reel. The donor supply reel provides a continuous source of donor plus overcoat material. The donor guide bar guides printed media and the donor plus overcoat into a nip created by forcing the heated fuser roller and pressure roller together. The heated fuser roller is used to transport the printed media and donor through the nip and apply heat to the donor and printed media. The pressure roller is used to apply pressure to the fuser roller in order to produce the mechanical nip. The nip plus the heat causes the overcoat material on the donor to be transferred to the printed media.

Abstract: A tubular label fitting apparatus for containers in which label fitting heads are arranged at even intervals on the outer perimeter of a main turret, each fitting head comprising a container table, a container presser bar that applies a pressing force against the top of a container which is supported by the container table, and vacuum jaws to hold the label. The label fitting head comprises a container presser bar means 40 on the bottom of a container presser bar body 41. The container presser bar means 40 further comprises a label attitude control element 42 whose outer diameter is slightly smaller than the diameter of a fitting tube. Abstract: A lower holding table and an upper holding table, which hold substrates, respectively, are moved relative to each other, causing one of the substrates to contact the drops of liquid crystal, formed on the other substrate. The substrate that is held on the lower holding table is thereby made to float. Next, the floating substrate is made to abut on the lower holding table. A contact load smaller than the bonding load to be applied to bond the substrates together is thereby applied to the two substrates, thus aligning the substrates with each other in the horizontal direction. The bonding load is applied to the two substrates thus aligned. The substrates are thereby bonded with a seal layer.

Abstract: A thin film bonding method for bonding a thin film to an target surface by using an adhesive agent includes the steps of: applying the adhesive agent on the target surface and mounting the thin film on the adhesive agent; applying a a fluid pressure on the target surface and the thin film from a central portion to an circumference according to lapse of time, so as to allow the thin film and the target surface to be bonded partially; and hardening the adhesive agent. The compressive force using the fluid having a magnetic force in the thin film bonding proceeds in a spiral form from the central portion to the circumference of the disk according to lapse of time, so that the air trap existing in the adhesive agent can be effectively removed, and thus, the flatness of the disk can be prevented from degradation due to the air trap.
