  • Patent number: 4957209
Abstract: A bottle used for housing an emergency water ration which is made of high density polyethylene. The material of the bottle is stabilized with UV light. After filling the bottle with water it is sterilized under high pressure conditions in a water bath at a temperature of 120.degree. C. for at least 10 minutes and cooled by means of compressed air. The body of the bottle has a side ratio equal to 1:0.6:0.4 with all sides containing round edges. The bottom surface has a concave configuration. Such a bottle is completely undeformable and may be dropped into the water without damage from a height of 36 m. The water in the bottle has a lifetime longer than 5 years.

  • Patent number: 4948001
Abstract: This relates to a container having a neck finish which is provided with threads for receiving a closure and wherein the threads are blow molded in the formation of the container from a tubular parison. It has been found that in the blow molding of the threads, there is a thinning of the wall of the neck finish at the roots of the threads and under certain circumstances, when a closure is applied at a high torque, there is an axial collapse of the neck finish rendering the container unfit for use. The problem of axial collapse of the neck finish is overcome by interrupting the threads so as to provide axial beam strength at circumferential intervals around the neck finish.

  • Patent number: 4856668
Abstract: The invention relates to a bottle closure which is suitable, in particular, for champagne bottles having threaded mouths. This bottle closure is unitary made and is of plastic and has a stopper like sealing shank, with a smooth exterior, which penetrates into the neck of the bottle. A cap comprising an internal thread which is adapted to the external thread of the bottle is provided around the sealing shank. The latter projects somewhat beyond the thread of the cap so that, when the bottle closure is opened, a "plop" which is a typical noise of a champagne bottle, is produced. The bottle itself has a bead which, when the bottle closure is in place, is covered by the lower end of the cap. Between the uppermost turn of the thread of the cap and the beginning of the sealing shank on the cap there is provided a sealing lip which, when the bottle closure is in place, bears upon the upper edge of the neck of the bottle.

The closure may be formed of a molding of elastomeric material and includes a top wall having an annular skirt downwardly depending therefrom. The annular skirt has a closure thread formed about its inside surface which cooperates with the threaded neck of the container to achieve the fitment. The closure cap also contains a stepped projection formed generally at the inside juncture of the top wall and the annular skirt. The stepped projection has a vertical surface thereon. A flexible, hollow frusto-conical flange is formed integrally with the inner surface of the top wall and projects downwardly and outwardly therefrom. The flange is sufficiently thin and has sufficient length so as to enable it to bend around the outside radius of the rim.

  • Patent number: 4616759
Abstract: The measuring cap-containing, liquid-dispensing container assembly includes a container with interior storage space and upstanding pour spout connected to the space, an annular raised platform peripheral of the spout base and an annular recessed liquid drainage channel between the spout base and platform. The channel preferably has a curved bottom and has a drainage hole communicating with the container storage space. The assembly includes a measuring cap disposed over and releasably secured to the spout by a first seal. The base of the cap abuts the platform and is sealed thereto by a second seal. The first seal can be an annular sleeve depending from the cap top interior peripheral of the spout, and mating threads or mating detents and recesses on the spout exterior and sleeve interior. The second seal is an o-ring in a recess in the cap base and/or platform, or a detent in one of the cap base or platform and a mating recess in the other of the cap base and platform.

  • Patent number: 4566603
Abstract: A linerless closure for use in sealing plastic bottles and jars is disclosed. The linerless closure has a series of concentric annular sealing rings for sealing contact with a bottle mouth. A ridge located between an inner and outer sealing flange provides for a minimum of two sealing surfaces and a maximum of three sealing surfaces with a bottle mouth. A buttress flange spaced inwardly of the inner sealing flange provides additional strength to the inner sealing flange for guiding an irregular bottle mouth to a sealing engagement.

  • Patent number: 4564117
Abstract: A closure for an externally screw threaded standard glass or plastics container has a moulded plastics shell and a liner gasket which can turn freely in it. The liner is retained in the shell by a central spigot which fits loosely in a hole in the center of the liner gasket, but has an enlarged head. The gasket, which is smaller in diameter than the top of the shell, is pressed against the top end of the container, for which it is designed, by one or two ribs. This arrangement allows the liner gasket to remain stationary on the container at the commencement of releasing the closure.

  • Patent number: 4564113
Abstract: This relates to the formation of a cylindrical portion of an injection molded plastic member having an internal thread, rib or bead. In order to facilitate stripping of the thread, rib or bead from an associated core, the cylindrical element has formed in its exterior surface in axial alignment with the thread, rib or bead a groove of the same configuration. Thus, when the member is stripped from a core, the thread, rib or bead may expand radially outwardly into the corresponding groove without a material radial deformation of the cylindrical element.

  • Patent number: 4550841
Abstract: A closure for a container includes a closed top, a peripheral skirt and an integral engagement portion which extends from the closure top having an outer sidewall which is spaced radially inwardly from the inner sidewall of the skirt a distance sufficient such that the container neck is receivable in the space therebetween. A mechanism is provided by which the engagement portion is expanded radially outwardly either during or after the application of the closure to the container to urge the sidewall of the engagement portion tightly into engagement with the inner sidewall of the container neck to provide a friction locking and/or hermetic sealing of the closure to the container. In another embodiment, locking means are provided on the inner sidewall of the closure skirt which allows the closure to be twisted onto the container but which prevents the closure from being twisted in the opposite direction thereby locking the closure onto the container.

  • Patent number: 4526284
Abstract: A closure for a container comprises a top 11 with a depending skirt 12 having an internal screw thread. Where the skirt joins the top, the internal surface 15 of the skirt is conically flared in a direction away from the top, and a flexible resilient fin 18 extends from the underside of the top substantially parallel to the flared surface 15. The free end portion of the fin is thickened as by the provision of a broad rib 23 on the radially inner surface of the fin. When the closure is secured on to a container, the fin 18 becomes defirmed outward and is sufficiently long to extend round the outer corner portion of the top of the container and is pressed into tight sealing engagement with said outer corner portion by the flared surface. The increased thickness of the free end portion of the fin causes it to resist expansion and to hug more closely the corner portion of the top of the container.
