Thermal deformation may occur at the time of temporary fitting or brazing when assembling the rail. However, positional accuracy of the injector holder can be assured, which results in having an excellent sealing property. Components of the fuel rail for direct-injection internal combustion engines are made of steel or stainless steel, and the components are joined reciprocally by brazing. • Patent number: 7677846
Abstract: A method for removing a weld crown from a weld joint between first and second work pieces includes steps of positioning a rotary milling tool proximate to the joint and at an offset angle to set a cutting arc relative to the joint. The milling tool is positioned so the cutting arc intersects the weld crown, weld toes, and parent metal on each side of the weld joint. As the milling tool traverses the joint to cut away the weld crown, the milling tool may tilt from side to side to compensate for misalignment between the work pieces along the weld joint. An apparatus for weld crown removal holds a milling tool at an offset angle, and provides a tracking mechanism to permit the milling tool to track misalignment between the work pieces, maintaining the cutting arc in intersection with the weld toes and parent metal along the weld joint.

As a result, deformation of the produced pistons is prevented.

Abstract: A machining device comprising five axial kinetic coordinate systems that can be controlled simultaneously, the three axes of which are linear moving axes and the two axes of which are rotary axes, with one axis of the five axes provided with a tool rotating function, said machining device equipped with a cutting tool 51 and a friction stir bonding tool 52. The current value observed when a large-diameter portion of said tool 52 contacts the work object is set in advance, and by observing the torque current of the rotary shaft of the tool 52 during friction stir bonding, the insertion depth of the tool 52 can be controlled by maintaining the observed torque current above the preset current value, thus providing a good bond. A single device can provide both the cutting and the bonding. The present invention enables to cut down equipment cost, installation space, plant area, lead time and production cost.

Abstract: Disclosed is a friction stir welding technique which avoids occurrence of a dent, in adjoining region, extending to a level beneath the joined surfaces. At end portions of the frame members to be joined, at the joining region, thickened parts which project toward the rotary body joining tool are provided. Two adjoining thickened parts, of adjacent members to be joined, can form a trapezoid shape. The rotary body joining tool has a small-diameter tip portion and a larger diameter portion. The rotary body joining tool is inserted in the thickened parts. In a state where the rotary body joining tool has been inserted small-diameter tip and first, to a level where the larger diameter portion of the rotary body joining tool overlaps the thickened part but does not extend below the upper surface of the non-thickened surfaces of the members joined, the rotary body is rotated and moved along the joining region. Even when a gap exists between two thickened parts, a desirable joining can be carried out.

Abstract: By utilizing a roll bonding process and appropriately forming steps, a load bearing structure is created which is capable of handling and appropriately transferring loads. One preferred method includes the combination of roll bonding and hydroforming to efficiently create structural components. While various product configurations are possible, one version includes a waffle-type structure produced by appropriate roll bonding of material sheets. This waffle-type structure can also undergo additional forming steps to create several structural components capable of handling and carrying loads in a very efficient and effective manner. More significantly, this process enables the use of structural aluminum for load bearing components which are efficiently and cost effective when manufactured.

Abstract: A thermally enhanced semiconductor package includes a sheet metal cap having flexible flanges provided with solder contacts for reliable attachment to a circuit board. The package assembly further includes a semiconductor chip with a contact-bearing front surface facing forwardly, and chip bonding contacts overlying the front face of the chip. The flange bonding contacts are coplanar with the chip bonding contacts, or can be brought into coplanar alignment by flexure of the cap. The package can be surface-mounted to a circuit board by placing the package onto pads of solder paste, and then heating the assembly to melt the solder paste in order to join the bonding contacts on the chip and on the flange to corresponding contacts on the circuit board.

While transfer speed of a succeeding material and the front end position thereof are detected, the transfer speed and the rear end position of a preceding material are detected by a measuring roll. The transfer speed of the succeeding material is controlled by adjusting at least the drive speed of the pinch rolls so as the front end of the succeeding material to contact with the rear end of the preceding material at a specified position in a travelling welder. the rear end of the preceding material is joined with the front end of the succeeding material by flash-butt welding using the travelling welder to form a continuous material while letting the travelling welder move at a speed synchronous with the transfer speed of the continuous material. The welded portion on the continuous material is ground and/or cut to remove burr therefrom.

Abstract: A laminated structural panel is formed of top, bottom, and one or more intermediate layers of material having low strength at high temperature and with perforated high temperature, high strength materials interleaved between the top, bottom and intermediate layers. Brazing material is clad on the top and bottom layers and the intermediate layer or layers may be entirely of brazing material or clad on both sizes with brazing material, such that when the assembled stack is subjected to high temperature in a high vacuum environment brazing material is caused to melt and fill the perforations in the high strength material. A particular application is for structural panels, used as shelves in manufacturing electronic chips or displays where aluminum is advantageous because it does not outgas or release particles under the high temperature, high vacuum environment used to make the product. Aluminum, however, does not maintain its strength and stiffness at the high temperatures involved.

Abstract: A weld bead chopper is provided, for use in combination with a scarfing tool which is intended to scarf a longitudinal weld bead from a tube. The chopper has a) a chopper blade which is rotatable about an axis which is substantially perpendicular to a longitudinal axis of the tube, and b) a stationary blade which is cooperable with the rotatable blade. The cooperating chopping surfaces of the rotatable and stationary blades are at a short distance from the weld bead, e.g. less than 100 mm, and preferably from 20 to 50 mm. The scarfed weld bead enters an enclosed throat which has walls to guide a scarfed weld bead towards the cooperating chopping surfaces. The throat has a first guide adjacent to the scarfing tool which directs the scarfed weld bead towards a second guide. The second guide faces the scarfing tool, and is adapted to guide the scarfed weld bead towards the cooperating chopping surfaces.
