    Abstract: This invention relates to a nozzle for dispensing and aerating liquids. The nozzle provides for the formation of a substantially hollow conical vortex which aspirates air into its interior. The vortex is formed within a chamber so that the base of the vortex impinges upon the chamber walls. This impingment results in the formation of a turbulent film which, when brought in contact with the aspirated air, results in aeration of the liquid forming the film. A foam like characteristic is given the liquid by the entrapment of the air as the liquid is dispensed.

One of the bottles is partially filled with water.The so-coupled bottles are pivoted so that the water containing bottle is on top, the upper bottle is given a circular swirl or two and the water flows in a clearly discernable whirlpool or vortex from the upper bottle to the lower while the displaced air flows from the lower bottle to the upper through the thus-formed vortex in an educational or entertaining display.

    Abstract: An atomizer for coating an object with powder includes a spray gun with a central feed passage and an atomizer gas flow passage with an outlet radially outside the feed channel. Both the outlet from the feed channel and the atomizer gas passage outlet are located at a widening atomizer gas outlet. Upstream of the spray gun is a body with a plurality of obliquely inclined, axially extending flow channels in it which impart spiral rotation to the gas-powder mixture entering the feed channel in the spray gun. The housing for the body having the inclined flow channels in it is conically tapered upstream and downstream of that body, and upstream of that body there is an upstream facing conical element for directing flow into the flow channels.

    Abstract: A new spray ring apparatus for use in forming apparatus of the type used in metal forming and glassware forming which include a forming cavity into which a fluid lubricant material is sprayed. In one embodiment, the spray ring includes a plurality of nozzles through which the fluid lubricant material is sprayed into the cavity in a tangential helical flow pattern to thereby uniformly coat the interior surfaces of the cavity prior to the forming of the metal or glassware parts therein. In another embodiment, an annular nozzle flowpath is provided with the helical flow pattern being imparted to the lubricant material via a tangentially disposed inlet opening into an annular manifold chamber. A plurality of nozzle openings may be provided in the outer surface of the spray ring which may operate to uniformly coat the outer surfaces of a punch or similar type of associated overlying forming tool.

    Abstract: A high flow rate electromagnetic fuel injector valve with a rapid response time is disclosed for utilization in electronic fuel injection systems. The fuel injector valve comprises a stator means and a valve assembly having a self-centering valve member reciprocally mounted in a valve housing. The valve member consists of a ball valve with a semispherical sealing surface connected by a stem to a magnetically attractable cup-shaped armature. The armature is preferably coated with a friction reducing material where it slideably contacts an armature guide bore of the injector valve during its reciprocation. The ball valve of the valve member obturates an exit orifice of the valve housing by sealing against a conical valve seat which has been coined to receive it. Adjacent to the ball valve and conical valve seat interface are vortex generating and metering orifices for the tangential entry of fuel into a swirl chamber of the valve housing.

    Abstract: Exceptional atomization of liquids is achieved by combining shock wave formation and vortex generation in a gas stream. In a vortex generating device, a flow passage is aligned with a flow axis connected between a fluid inlet and a fluid outlet, and a plurality of tornado-like gas vortices are generated in the flow passage. In one embodiment, a restriction is formed in the fluid inlet, and a source of gas under sufficient pressure to cause sonic velocity at the restriction is connected to the inlet. In another embodiment, a restriction is formed in a downstream portion of a flow passage, and a pair of auxiliary flow passages connect an upstream portion of the flow passage to the restriction. In an embodiment, a fluid outlet has a concave semispherical surface opening into an ambient region.

    Abstract: A flow passage having a restriction is connected between a fluid inlet and outlet. A bluff body such as a frustum or disc is disposed in the flow passage between the inlet and the restriction. The inlet is transverse to the axis of the flow passage. The bluff body is mounted on a rod extending through the flow passage. In one embodiment, a sphere is mounted on the end of the rod beyond the outlet. The rod may be hollow and have holes near the restriction for the purpose of liquid feed. As fluid entering the inlet passes the rod and bluff body to the restriction, a vortex is generated.

An adjustable valve is disposed in the bore so as to selectively advance toward or retract from the end wall. Upon introduction of fluid to the bore, a variable fluid spray pattern can be obtained upon adjustment of the valve toward or away from the orifice in the wall.
