  • Patent number: 5522557
Abstract: A roll mill has a fixed roll journalled in stationary fixed bearings and a floating roll journalled in movable bearings enabling the floating roll to be pressed against the fixed roll under high pressure. An adjustable spacing arrangement is provided between the two bearings to enable a gap of selected width to be formed between the rolls. The spacing arrangement includes a pair of shaft-like distance members received and guided in associated bores of the fixed bearings for movement therealong. Free ends of the distance members extend outward of their bores and engage the opposing floating bearings to adjust the positions of the rolls as they wear so as to maintain the selected gap width. The free ends are retractable into the bores to allow the bearings to abut one another and thereby optimize the wear life of the rolls.

  • Patent number: 5381977
Abstract: The invention relates to apparatus for material bed comminution of brittle material for grinding, with two roll-like comminuting tools, in which the length:diameter ratio is in each case less than 1 and of which one tool is fixed and the other is mounted so as to be movable, wherein a working gap distance is maintained between the two comminuting tools in the unloaded starting position and the comminuted material for grinding is substantially pressed to form agglomerated scabs. In order to ensure a relatively low wear and a relatively maintenance-free operation the length:diameter ratio of the comminuting tools is less than approximately 0.3 and the diameter of the roll-like comminuting tools is chosen to be sufficiently great that the scab thickness is always greater than the working gap distance.

  • Patent number: 5368239
Abstract: In an apparatus for producing milled grain products by means of repeated roll grinding and sifting of specific product fractions, the material to be milled is at least partially guided via double-grinding passes without intermediate sifting. An eight-roll mill is used for this purpose, which eight-roll mill is constructed as a double unit with two roll pairs arranged at a distance one above the other and can be used in quantity in a grain milling system or also in combination with single-grinding passes constructed as four-roll mills. Compared with the use of known four-roll mills, the economic efficiency of a mill is accordingly improved while completely retaining the adaptability of the mill to specific grinding tasks, the quality of the material to be milled and/or the ability to monitor the grinding process.

  • Patent number: 5253816
Abstract: The invention relates to a machine for compacting and/or crushing bulk material, in which two rollers which can be pressed together at high pressure each consist of a main roller body and a roller shell which is releasably connected to the main roller body and is composed of individual segments. Each of the individual segments has one single lug projecting in the circumferential direction on the front long side in the direction of rotation of the roller and one single complementary recess on the rear long side in the direction of rotation of the roller. The generatrices of the outer surfaces of the segments point in the circumferential direction and run radially with respect to the roller axis. This results in a simple construction of the segments and a high degree of security against tilting.

  • Patent number: 5088651
Abstract: A roll crusher having a pair of rolls facing each other, in which feed material to be crushed is fed into a space or a crushing chamber formed in between these rolls, and the pair of rolls rolls up the material to compress and crush it. Both ends of one or the other of the rolls are provided with flanges which cover the lower portions of end openings in the crushing chamber. Cheek plates fixedly disposed cover the remaining portions of the end openings of the crushing chamber. This construction helps prevent feed material from flowing out of the crushing chamber. One of the pair of the rolls is driven for rotation by a source of drive power, and the other is rotated freely as well as driven to rotate initially at low speed, which permits coarse materials to be forcibly entrained in between the rolls for crushing. During the process of crushing, the crushing clearance of rolls is set to 0.6 to 2.4 times 80% passing size of feed material, and feed rate is limited so that passing rate of the material ranges 0.

  • Patent number: 4377260
Abstract: A roller mill has two pairs of parallel rolls, each pair comprising fast and slow rolls driven in opposite directions. In a flour mill, wheat is ground between each pair of rolls to produce flour. A drive motor drives a first one of the fast rolls through a V-belt drive. The driven fast roll drives the second fast roll through a 1:1 endless chain drive. The slow rolls are driven in an opposite direction and at a slower speed than the fast rolls by a serpentine chain drive engaged with a slow roll, a fast roll, and the other slow roll, in that order. Both chain drives are arranged next to each other at one end of the roller mill and are housed in a common oil bath housing containing oil for lubricating the drive chains. The chain drive eliminates the need for a lineshaft and drive pulleys, as well as a jackshaft and idler pulleys, and associated bearings and guarding that are normally used with a prior art belt-driven roller mill.

  • Patent number: 4193555
Abstract: A roll mill has sealing devices pressed against the ends of the rolls to seal the roll gap so that material being processed is not squeezed out (such as oil seed during treatment for flaking). The sealing devices include flow guides (such as recesses therein). A curtain of material, wider than the rolls are long, falls onto the roll gap, and so much of it as exceeds the width of the rolls is guided by the flow guides into the roll gap from beyond the ends of the rolls outwardly of the roll ends. This happens because the flow guides themselves extend near the roll gap but stop short of the roll ends. The sealing devices may include a sealing pin surmounted by an elongate wedge member, the two having communicating recesses which together form the flow guide.
