  • Patent number: 6058822
Abstract: A shredding apparatus is described which comprises at least one module of a pair of counter-rotating cutting assemblies located in spaced apart parallel relationship wherein each assembly comprises a driving shaft upon which is mounted one or more cutters. The cutters are provided with a pair of cutting surfaces or edges which are located at either end of the cutter. In the one module the cutting surfaces of adjacent cutters mounted on adjacent shafts are in contact with each other over at least a part of the circumference of the cutting surfaces so that when the cutters counter-rotate, material fed between them is cut by the action of the counter rotating cutters. An anti-wrap member is associated with a driving shaft to prevent material being cut from wrapping around the shaft or cutter.

  • Patent number: 6039276
Abstract: An apparatus for crushing sugar cane to extract the juice has opposed crushing rolls at least one of which is formed with juice channels which are temporarily plugged by bagasse after the juice has entered into the channel. Further rotation of the rolls removes the trapped juice away from the cane blanket and the bagasse plug is then scraped out of the top of the channel to allow the juice to drain. The juice is drained away from the cane blanket and is not reabsorbed thereby. Efficiency of juice removal is improved. Further efficiency improvements are obtained by having pairs of crushing rolls positioned above each other such that the cane blanket moves in a generally vertical direction.

  • Patent number: 5984214
Abstract: A multiaxes roll type of crusher comprises four rolls. The four rolls respectively have teeth for directly crushing materials. There would be virtually 6 pairs of rolls in mathematically. There are really at least three relations given for crushing. Raw materials are crushed with a first crushing-relation to be of smaller size. Such crushed materials are secondly crushed with a second crushing-relation and a third crushing-relation to be of still smaller size. The first roll and the second roll can rotate in reversely opposite directions. The third roll and the fourth roll can rotate in reversely opposite directions. The reverse rotations cancel the crushing-relations. The flow of the crushed materials are controlled by a flow controlling means, which opens and closes the path between the third roll and the fourth roll. The opened flow controlling means does not obstruct the flow of foreign materials between the third roll and the fourth roll.

  • Patent number: 5979808
Abstract: A forage harvester is equipped with a milling arrangement or kernel processor comprising a pair of rolls which are mounted on parallel axes and adapted for being counter-rotated so as to operate on chopped crop products introduced into the nip of the rolls. The rolls each have an outer circumference defined by larger and smaller diameter sections arranged one after the other along the length of the roll. In one embodiment the larger diameter sections of one roll are located in an annular groove defined between the larger diameter sections of the other roll, these sections being opposite to the smaller diameter sections of the other roll. The overlap between the large diameter sections of the rolls defines shear faces at opposite sides of the sections for cutting crop parts into smaller pieces.

  • Patent number: 5975445
Abstract: An automatic paper shredder is capable of sequentially cutting up to 20 sheets of 20-lb bond paper, up to 9 inches wide. The device has adjustable holders for attachment to conventional wastebaskets of varying shapes. A feed tray holds the stack of paper. Upon selection of either manual (ON) or automatic (AUTO) operation of the machine, a single sheet of paper is fed into the machine by a roller as are subsequent sheets, if any. In addition, the shaft has a first outer surface lining the inner surface of at least one cutter disc, and a second outer surface adjacent to at least one cutter disc. The second outer surface has an outer diameter greater than the inner diameter of the adjacent cutter disc.

Abstract: A modular shear shredder having at least one shear cartridge having a shaft which carries a plurality of cutter elements mounted within a shredder housing having a support frame, opposing end walls attached to the frame, and side walls removably attached to the frame, the side walls being shaped such that removal of the one of the side walls permits the shear cartridge inserted and removed from the shredder housing. Consequently, there is no need to remove the end walls of the housing, or otherwise dismantle the unit to remove the shear cartridge. The removable side walls each support a plurality of comb elements which mesh with the cutter elements on the shear cartridge. Each shear cartridge within the shredder includes a pair of end caps removably attached to the ends of the shaft. The caps are shaped to be attached either to support bearings or drive motor output shafts.

Abstract: A volume reduction machine for crushing beverage containers has a pair of feed rolls and a pair of crusher rolls. The feed rolls in spaced relationship to a feed plate, urge containers to be crushed, while puncturing them. The feed rolls comprise a plurality of spaced feed discs and are aligned to overlap to ensure self cleaning. The crusher rolls comprise a plurality of closely-spaced discs. Spaces between discs slightly exceeding the thickness of the disc. The crusher rolls are offset such that the discs of one roll align with the spaces between discs of the other roll. The crusher rolls have an adjustable gap and are aligned with a lower edge of the feed plate. The discs forming the crusher rolls include circumferential notches of a given size and shape to deform plastic beverage containers beyond their modulus of elasticity thereby overcoming the problem of such containers springing back after crushing. An oscillating horizontal bar provides a debridging dejamming feature to the machine.

Abstract: Paired, coacting, albeit non-contacting rollers have interfitting collars or rings, and tapered rims, which are rotatably driven in opposite directions. Paper fed therebetween is torn asunder, and freely discharged therefrom. The rings cooperate together to force the paper to be torn lengthwise thereof, and the rims crease the resulting strips to insure that they do not remain lodged between the rings. An embodiment has helical rings or collars which cause the paper to be dismembered into diagonally-shaped, fine fragments.
